5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade

We continue this walk down memory lane with 5th grade and middle school. I know middle school is an awkward and unhappy time for a lot of people. I remember getting picked on in middle school for various things, mainly the way I dressed. But I did my own thing anyway, because my momma taught me to be myself!

This was a weird year. I didn't like my teacher. She a had a "Time Out Chair". Time out, in 5th grade!?

We took a week long field trip to Camp Hebron. We stayed overnight in cabins and 12th graders were our camp counselors. My camp counselor would swear at us. I guess they didn't have a very good screening process...

I had a hard time adjusting to middle school. I became a PERFECTIONIST. One thing I remember doing was erasing my homework and trying to write as neatly as possible. I dreaded going to school.

BUT my striving for perfectionism made me the first student of the month ever at my middle school! Don't worry, I stopped being a perfectionist after awhile...

Middle school was the time I really connected with my friend Sherrie. In fact, we became best friends. We became so close that we decided we would pretend to be twins. I was Tia and she was Tamara. (Yes, we pretended we were the Mowery twins!) We dressed the same as often as we could.

Obviously, this did not make us very popular and OBVIOUSLY people called us lesbians. Because, middle school.

~ ~ 8th Grade ~ ~

By now, I had a group of friends, but was definitely the least popular and most picked on one in the group. I didn't have a boyfriend or even any prospects, which really made me feel left out. Especially when I was the only person who went to the 8th Grade Honors Dance by herself.
Tell me a memory you have from middle school!
Were you popular?

  1. Are you still close friends with Sherrie? Other than the twins thing, I have a hard time believing people would make fun of you. Obviously they didn't know how cool you are!

    1. Yes, Sherrie and I are still friends but we barely ever talk or hang out anymore. I don't think I have talked to her in two years! She has kids and lives prob an hour from me. I guess neither of us has made the effort lately.

  2. I wasn't popular. I was picked on a lot. 7th grade was the worst year of my life because I was failing algebra and got glasses. Also your pics are cute but it looks like you grew up big time between 6th and 7th grade!

I loved Tia and Tamara. I used to watch reruns of their show when I was older too and it came on in the afternoons :).

    1. Aw I am sorry 7th grade sucked for you. Middle school can be so cruel. I haven't seen Sister, Sister in so long! But my favorite episode was the slumber party one.

  3. Hmmmm, I don't remember it being too bad - but I was never with the "really popular" crowd, and it didn't bother me much. I had some close friends and we had a good time. Your school pictures are really cute! Mine were definitely awkward looking.

  4. Ah middle school, why is it so cruel? I remember it being a big competition between being popular and being an outcast. I would always advocate for the outcasts and I would try to get along with everyone, so I fell somewhere in the middle of different groups.

    1. We had such a small school, so it was you were either popular or you were an outcast. I was with the popular girls but I was definitely bottom tier due to how they treated me. Yeah, middle school is tough!
