Chrissy was a BABY!

Back in the spring of 2007, my friend Maren's cat, Miss Marbles was pregnant. I was promised that I could have one of the kittens! I named Christmas before he was even born. I remember finding out when Miss Marbles finally had the kitties. I was at work and Maren texted me. I was so excited! It would be 8 weeks before I could bring Christmas home, but I could meet him before that!

Here are some pics of the first time we met Christmas...

The whole litter!

This is how Maren describes the day the kitties were born...

"I remember Miss Marbles had the kittens somewhere hidden - somewhere outside. Maybe behind our neighbor's house? Then, one day, we saw her coming across the street with a kitty in her mouth! We held open the front door as she was running straight towards it. She came in and immediately ran upstairs, into my bedroom and put the baby kitty under the my desk!
She ran back another time, bringing a second kitty, then for a third! (I forget which order, because I'd never seen them before then to know who was who!)
Her last trip back was a little slower - she was tired! - and she dropped the last one on her head in the road! (That was Cookie, black and white.)
They then stayed in a kitty house in the garage until they got bigger when we moved the house onto the deck.
All the kittens were especially cuddly, but I remember Chrissy and the other orange kitty were especially outgoing!"
When Christmas was 8 weeks old, I drove up to Pillow, PA to pick him up. He was living outside on Maren's deck and she actually couldn't find him as he was somewhere in the flowers exploring. That's my little boy, right!? She had a little gift bag for me with cat toys in it. I put Christmas in a box and drove him an hour back to my apartment in Camp Hill.

I don't remember much about our first two years together in my apartment in Camp Hill. It's crazy to think I lived there with Christmas for 3 months and then Jelly joined us! I have a couple pictures but not many, as back then, no one had a camera on their phone. Here's two I found...

He always would do anything for milk...

Look how little!!!! But you can tell by his paws he was gonna be a big boy.

I'll talk more about Jelly when it's his birthday, but for now, I want to wish my little Chrissy boy a HAPPY 10TH BIRTHDAY!!!!

I know it sounds crazy, but I love Christmas with all my heart. When he looks in my eyes, we have a CONNECTION.
Here are some pictures of my boy. I hope his personality/silliniess shines through so you can see some of the reasons why I love him!

Tell me about how you got your fur baby...
Or how you got your real baby!!!

  1. Happy Birthday, Christmas! Those kitten pictures...there are no words! He's so adorable and I know how much you love him (and Jelly) with all your heart. Pets make our lives complete. Macy is such a big part of our lives! I wish I could attach a picture of her as a puppy because she was so damn cute. She still is cute but puppy cute is off the charts.

    1. They do complete our lives!! I love Chrissy and Jelly unconditionally. It is very rare I get mad at them... I have gotten mad at Chrissy before (peeing) but it doesn't last long.

  2. I love this! I love cats so very much so I totally get it. I have had at least one cat my whole life except for when Andrew and I first lived together. He was scared of cats (he still is a little bit) but he knew how much I loved them so he got one for us. My very closest cat I ever had though was Harley. He was an orange pure bred persian, and because he was a bit inbred, his nose was a little too squished in and so he'd snore and his eyes would always run. And his tail could bend back right against his spine. It was like it was missing muscle or tendons or something. He'd stand there and stare up at a blank wall. But he slept with me every night, right through my teen years and he was with me through the toughest times of my life. I will never forget him. My whole family loved him and they all know how much he meant to me.

    Happy Birthday, Christmas! <3

    1. Why is Andrew scared of cats? He would probably be so afraid of mine as they are BIG. Harley sounds like a very special cat. Pets can be *so* comforting. I can see how he could be there for you during tough times just by literally being *there*. It is such a comforting feeling to have a cat curled up against you.

  3. Happy birthday Chrissy! Such a beautiful, smart boy!

Adam agreed to adopt Cecil but then on the day I went to pick him up Adam and I got into a huge fight. He told me that he didn't think getting a kitten was a good idea. I can't even remember why (i was probably blocking it all out). Normally when Adam and I get into a fight, which is hardly ever, I will try to come back to the table and negotiate so that we are both happy and comfortable with the decision. However, I had already held Cecil at that point and new he was meant to be my baby so I hung up the phone with Adam and defiantly marched my way back to my mom's neighbor's house and packed Cecil up into my car. I knew once Adam saw Cecil he would fall in love too -- and of course he did :).

  4. Adorable! My parents' Hemingway cat is also 10, and is also a big boy. His paws were so big when he was a kitten, with those thumbs. He's a very long cat, with an even longer tail.

    2. I don't think so. He just grew into his paws and he's fluffy. He's a big wimp too.
