Friday 5 - Running Hacks!

Hey all! I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday 5 2.0!

Today I am actually going to follow the assigned theme! The theme is "Running Hacks". I have been running for over a decade. Surely I have hacked it by now?

Oh man...

Okay, here are my running hacks.

I feel like this is going to be lame.

1. I hacked how to save time! On Sundays, I lay out all of my workout clothes for the week. It is nice to not have to "think" in the morning. Yes, this requires checking the weather, etc, but that is okay!

Oh wow, it's going to be a good week if I get to wear shorts every day!

2. I hacked how to avoid (sometimes) single digit temps!) During the winter, I schedule my lifting days on the three coldest/windiest days of the week. Since I'm not training for anything in particular, the days I run and the days I lift don't really matter. I can schedule them around the weather.

3. I definitely hacked how to save money. In January, I bought 7 pairs of Mizuno Wave Riders when I found them on sale for $55. The funny thing is that when I was storing them in my closet, I found another new pair I forgot about! I don't have to buy shoes for like 2 years now!

4. I hacked how to pee without pulling down my shorts. Just squat and pull the crotch to the side. So easy! I haven't hacked how to do it with pants yet.

5. Okay, let's be honest, it's Thursday night, I just taught school all day and then I taught 6 piano lessons... I have a headache, sore throat, I'm starving, and I just want to go to bed! If there is anything else I hacked about running, I am surely not going to think of it right now. All I know is that Paul is about to serve me homemade chili with Red Lobster biscuits (from a box) and I'm about to cry from happiness.

Tell me one of your running hacks!
What's the most amount of shoes you ever ordered?
Can you pee without pulling down your shorts?

  1. I definitely plan my runs around the weather to avoid rain, wind, snow etc whenever possible. I dont think I could plan out my workout clothes that far in advance because I feel like the weather changes so much and the forecast is never right! I do set out my workout clothes the night before though.

    1. Hey you are still prepared doing it the night before!

  2. I just discovered that I can get my favorite Mizunos in a wider width! I may try that next time I order them just to see how much extra room I have in the toe box area!

I finally found a pair of dress shoes I like that fit well but of course when I went back to order more colors they were out of stock!

Hope you enjoyed your chili and biscuits!

    1. Ooh that's cool you can get the wide width shoes! Do you think you can find your dress shoes somewhere else?

    2. I've looked all over the Web and can't find them. Maybe they were last year's style to begin with, IDK.

  3. I've mastered that potty trick as well. It comes in handy for an especially gross porta potty!

    Feel better!

  4. Love this--I also lay out my work clothes for the week, I plan my running, swimming, lifting and cycling around the weather, and always order discount shoes! Also, I can pee without taking off my swimsuit (one piece)...exact same concept and so quick and easy! I hope you feel better. It is FRIDAY!! YAY.

    1. You know when I used to swim I never did the swimsuit trick. Now if I ever get back in the pool I will definitely do it.

  5. I am thoroughly impressed that you can plan out your outfits for the whole week!

    1. It's not that impressive! It takes less time doing it that way.

  6. I always plan out my runs around weather. I hate things like "Real runners run in anything". Well, I will race in cold, rain, heat, wind, etc but I won't always do a training run in it. No problems with me switching days around or going to the treadmill! Not like I'm a professional athlete or anything who has to be out there.

Love that all your running shorts are alike. I've done the same thing, fallen in love with a clothing item then bought it in every single color.

    1. Those running shorts were from Wal Mart on super sale for around $5!!! That's why I have so many. I have about 12 pairs of those lol.

I don't run in lightening, wind advisories, or when it is slippy. Otherwise, if I truly want to run, I will. But only if I want to. Like, sometimes it's raining and I don't care because I really want to run. Then sometimes it's raining and I'm like HELL NO!

  7. I also buy sneakers in bulk when they are on sale. I purchased a few pairs of the Mizuno Wave Inspire 10 sneakers years ago and i still have 2 pairs left!

    1. Wow that is awesome!!! I'm not sure if these are Wave Rider 19s or 20s... Either way, they will probably be up to 25s by the time I need a new pair. :)

  8. Aww, you look so worn out in that pic. That's a long day of work! Holy smokes! I could never lay out my clothes for the week because I re-wear them so many times. I just do a lot of laundry. And our weather is SO unpredictable.

    1. I re-wear my running stuff too! I basically just make a pile of running stuff and choose the right layers. I wear them several times because I only have one pair of warm pants!

  9. Right now I'm trying to build my resistance to cold weather back up. Once I'm back to where my level was in Boston, I hope to get outside more often. I could wear shorts in the 40s and I would be fine. Not so much right now.

  10. I'm lucky if I lay out ONE running outfit ahead of time. All week is genius! Hope that chili and biscuits hit the spot!

  11. You definitely have taught me that running doesn't requires spending all the money, and I can't express how much I appreciate that ! I used to think I was the only thrifty runner in blog
    Land.

I hope you enjoyed your chili and biscuits !!

    1. The biscuits were INSANE omg. I need to get another box of those! I am definitely a thrifty runner. I am not into getting all kind of gear and stylish clothes. I'm not AGAINST stylish running clothes, I'd just rather spend money on something else!

  12. Lol I hope you're feeling better today!

I also stockpile the shit out of cheap shoes. Because those things are $$$!!! I think I have four in waiting... lol
