MGR's Weekly Workouts

I vowed to do more strength training this week than last. I definitely made that happen! What helped is that my legs felt all jacked up from power walking back to the bus when I was in DC on Saturday!

I only ran 18 miles. It was just one of those weeks!

Saturday- Women's March on Washington! I pretty much walked and stood around all day. My best estimate is 8 miles of walking? Who knows!? It was so exhausted.

Sunday- 6 miles. My whole lower body was tight from the march, particularly my hammies. I think the power walking is what made my hammies sore.

Monday- Lifting back/chest @ home. I did 5 unassisted pull ups! I am almost back to my PR- 7! Will I ever do 8? We shall see.

Tuesday- 6 miles. My ITB felt weak during most of the run. And then my left leg felt jacked up for the rest of the day. As the day went on, I realized it was the inside of my leg, up near my crotch that was tweaked. I think it's an adductor muscle strain.

Wednesday- Lifting chest @ home. I felt STRONG today.

Thursday- Lifting back @ home. The inside of my leg felt a lot better but I made myself skip running today just to be sure. I really wanted to run. It was hard not to.

Friday- 6 miles!!! Around mile two I felt the inside of my leg. It got a little worse until mile three, and then it didn't get any worse after that. It definitely felt better than it did on Tuesday, but I am mad that I feel it at all! I will probably run tomorrow. I need to.
Does power walking affect hamstrings?
How were your workouts?
Anyone ever get pain in their adductor/groin region?

  1. Is that abductor/ groin pain worse than IT band pain? Or is it tolerable but just uncomfortable?

I've been slacking on strength training so I think it's time for me to head back to the gym. Have a good week Megan.

    1. It is tolerable but I can tell it is going to get worse! Not something I want to mess with right now. I'm going to take several days off running. I ran Sat. and it hurt. I think I need more time off!

  2. Way to go on the weights! Nice job, girl. Sorry your legs are still recovering from the walking--it's so true you use your legs differently when you walk than when you run and they certainly let you know! My hamstrings (esp my right one) are jerks. I gotta just be careful and I would say HIKING is what really makes them mad. I had good workouts. 4 runs, 2 swims and 3 each of yoga and weights. I am starting to miss my bike (outdoors!).

    1. Yes I feel like walking is so much harder for me than running! I even said it while we were talking back to the bus that power walking sucked!

You had a nice variety of workouts, as always!

  3. Isn't it funny how doing a different activity will make us so sore? Glad you are recovering but I sure hope that leg pain doesn't turn into anything more... <3

    1. It is nuts! As a runner, I feel like I should be able to handle walking, haha! But sometimes I get side stitches whiles dancing with the kids at school and I am like... okay, I ran 8 mi this morning no prob, but I can't dance with the kids without getting a side stitch? So funny!

  4. I'm glad you got some good workouts in even if you didn't run a lot. Strength training is awesome too and you probably needed the week to recover from running and the march. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

When we went to Seattle Clay and I walked everywhere. We walked about as many miles as I would run on those days but I was soooo sore! I think because I was standing on my feet so much longer than usual.

    1. I remember you saying walking really affected you. It's crazy how different it is from running!

  5. I had a weird groin pain last winter, I couldn't feel it when I was running, but it hurt after. I didn't see a doctor, bc I'm weird. But it went away on its own.

For the hip abductor pain, I do the happy baby stretch and that helps a lot! I'm not an expert, so don't take my advice too seriously.

    1. Hey, I'm all for stuff going away on it's on. :)

Happy baby- that would definitely hit the spot I'm talking about. I'm not going to stretch now while it's sore because I don't want to anger it. But when it's better maybe I will spend some more time on the adductors.
