What got me out the door yesterday morning...

Yesterday, I had to get up early to run. It looked so cold out. It was cold out. I'll be honest, I didn't really feel like running. If I had the the luxury to slowly drink my coffee, putz around, eat a good breakfast, and then go run in a couple hours, I probably would have been excited. But my one chance was right then, early in the morning. It the bitter, bitter cold.

I wasn't feeling it.

But then I remembered: There will be a day I won't be able to run anymore. Hopefully that day is 50+ years from now!!!! But that day will come. And when it's here, I bet I will wish more than anything that I could go for a run. Even if it is early. Even if it is bitter, bitter cold.

I always try to be thankful for what I have and aware that it won't have it forever. My family, my health, my ability to do something so mundane as to put one foot in front of the other again and again and again... thousands of times... and go for a run.

That's what got me out the door yesterday morning!

  1. Do you think you would enjoy running on a treadmill when its cold outside or are you strictly an outdoor runner?

It's so important that we take advantages of opportunities now why we can because you never know when those opportunities may be gone or taken away. Good for you for 'seizing" the day!

    1. When the cold bothers me (it doesn't always) I could go to Planet Fitness and run on the treadmill. I am just not a huge fan of the treadmill so I feel like I would be more inclined to lift at home than get on the treadmill. Unless I am training for something and NEED to get the miles in.

  5. We had a big marathon/half marathon here locally yesterday and I had planned to run the half until I got injured a month ago. I had a friend tell me she was so glad she wasn't running because it was "soooo cold outside!". It kind of hurt my feelings because I would have done anything to be there racing a half in the cold but I just can't run that long with this injury! My running goal for 2017 is to enjoy it and not take running for granted like I have for so long...

    1. That is a wonderful goal! I'm sure your friend didn't mean to hurt your feelings but as runners we must be sensitive to our fellow runners when they are injured!

  6. That is always a good reminder. When I ran that recent 5K of mine I thought about my Dad in the hospital who just had some major knee surgery. I thought about how he is stuck in a bed right now and I had the blessing of being able to use both of my knees (and legs, and body...). It really did motivate me to go faster!

  9. You're so right...sometimes I think about the days I won't be able to run and I know I'll regret the days I missed; or at least I'll regret not getting everything out of it that I could have!
