Friday 5!

IT'S FRIDAY! WE MADE IT!!!! That means it's time for Friday 5!
Here are 5 random things about my Wednesday!

1. I broke in some new running shoes. These are the same shoes I have been wearing for years- Mizuno Wave Riders. I think they are 20s? The laces are annoying. They are stretchy! WHY?

2. It's freaking cold in the morning! On my morning runs I need long sleeves since the real feel is in the mid 40s. Complete bullshit. On the weekends when I run midday, as long as it is sunny, I can still get away with just a sports bra.

3. This is the face I had to say goodbye to in the morning. Omg he is so precious!

4. My poor lamp! On Wednesday afternoon, just when my head was about to explode due to having ZERO patience left, a student knocked over my clarinet lamp and the bulb shattered. It was a complete accident and I wasn't mad at the student at all. But it was the perfect metaphor for the shitty day I was having!

5. My car is going to smell "fresh" for a long time... I went grocery shopping after work and apparently on the way home, the cap to the detergent broke and spilled into the cup holders in my car. Yeah, that was fun to clean up.

Are you in long sleeves yet?
What's the weirdest thing you spilled in your car?
Tell me something fun you are doing this weekend!

  1. Love the new shoes but sad you hate the laces! I am now very curious to hear what shoes everyone wears as I am making the switch from Sauncony (breaking up from a 10 year relationship!). What made you decide on Minuzo to begin with? Um, yes, we are long sleeves +. The other morning when I went out for my workout it was 36 degrees. I don't mind it (even though I would rather it be summer) as long as it stays dry! I am sure that was a mess to clean up but at least a good smell in your car. I can't imagine if you spilled something like vinegar or something. My girlfriend spilled Kombucha in her car and it smelled like barf :( Something fun this weekend, going out to lunch w/ a girlfriend for her birthday! Tell me something fun you are doing!

    1. When I went to a "real" running store to get fitted for "real" running shoes for the very first time, this is what the guy put me in. I was recommended to go there from my running group, so even though I didn't know anything about shoes, I trusted his opinion. And I've been in Wave Riders ever since!!! We are talking 10 years I think!

36 degrees???????????? The lowest it has been here in the morning is real feel 44. Now today it looks like high 40s so I will still prob wear long sleeves. I'm in shorts though!

Have fun celebrating with your friend! This weekend I am going to a family fall party. :) That means lots of niece and nephew pictures come Monday! ;)

  2. I was in long sleeves this week and even in capris a couple of days. Thats so annoying about the detergent! I bet that took forever to clean up.

    1. I took some dirty towels out to absorb it. It didn't take too long but it got everywhere and I was just like, oh well, my car is going to smell fresh now!

  3. We've had markedly cooler weather in the mornings, and in the daytime it's getting into the high 80s but the humidity is lower! I love it! I can't wait to see the 60s!

I am weird about my running shoe laces. I don't like when they have NO give and are too short to double knot, but I don't like when they're REALLY stretchy either. I like a little give but not too much!

    1. Yay for lower humidity! That's what has been making my runs so great, I think. I hope the weather cooperates for your race this weekend! I am used to laces with no give. I guess that's just how my shoes have been. Now for some reasons wave riders decided to go stretchy. Aw hell no....

  4. Detergent is so difficult to clean up!!! Having 3 kids, I have just about everything spill in the car...
I have had some very cold days here...I kind of like it though :)

    1. Hey Cheryl!!! :) I bet it is all chilly up there in MA! I cleaned up the detergent but taking a bunch of dirty towels out the my car and just dipping it in the cup holders to absorb it lol. I thought it was a great idea but then the detergent did overflow and come out of the cup holder a little bit!

  5. I think I remember you saying you did not like the color of these shoes, right? I LOVE them!!!! Do the 20's feel any different than the 18's? I'm still stocking up on them when I find them in my size.

Good thing the detergent spilled in the cup holder instead of the carpet. I never spilled anything in my car but I had forgot a gallon of milk in the back seat before. Yea, I threw that out!

    1. Ewwwwwwww! At least you didn't SPILL the milk. That would have been horrible.

I do not like the color! I like pink but I like more of a HOT pink. 20s only feel different in the laces. Otherwise, I love them. They don't feel like they changed much. Good news for us!

    2. My bad, these are 19s! On sale!

  6. Your new running shoes are beautiful! Which reminds me that I need to place an order for a new pair of my own. The soles are getting way too worn down, perhaps why my calves have been so tight!

Real feel in the 40s?! Brrrrrr! That's way too cold! I can handle the 60s and mid 50s but on the one or two days a year that it gets into the lower 50s here in south florida I crumple into a ball and walk around with a blanket wrapped around my whole body all day. I even have a blanket I bring to the office!

    1. Ooh that could be why your calves are hurting. Aw I bet you look so cute wrapped up in your blanket. I have brought a blanket to work too because our heating/cooling system is not reliable and there have been days it has been FREEZING in my room!

  7. Do you ever wear arm sleeves ? I wear those with short sleeves, my shoulders get cold first.

Detergent is not too bad. Did you get a replacement from the store? My son spilled milk once, that is impossible to take out ! And some days in the heat of summer, I swear my car still smells of rotten milk.

    1. Nah no arm sleeves for me. Would be good for races though I'm sure! No I didn't get a replacement- luckily it didn't all spill. Ew to the milk!!! I would think there would be no way to get that not to smell horrible unless you got your car detailed or something.

  8. Haha! I love the cupholders in your car! I think if that happened to me, it would totally improve the situation in my car right now. We've been doing so much traveling that my car is just gross.

Dude... I seriously need a clarinet lamp. I majored in clarinet performance in college. With all the money I spent, the least they could have done is give me a lamp. :-)

    1. Hey, buy some detergent and just dump 'er in! :)

I think I knew you played the clarinet, but clarinet performance? That's no joke! I played 4th-12th grade but in college I was a vocal major.

  9. I wear long sleeves a lot casually because the air conditioning in the south is crazy and I stay cold. I haven't run in long sleeves yet but I do own a few long sleeve shirts. I even own tights but I almost never wear those. I only have them because a friend gave me some she could not longer wear. Last year I wore tights on 3 runs but this year I have a Planet Fitness membership or either I will just take a rest day those days. If we ever have a day cold enough for them, the next day will be hot again.

I hate that your clarinet lamp broke. I love that lamp.

I used to wear the Wave Riders. I've had 3 pairs, but they changed the design up big time a few years ago so I switched to different brands and haven't gone back to Mizuno. I like cushy-er shoes now.

    1. I was so mad when Mizuno made the big change. If they wanted to change it so much, couldn't they have just made a different style of shoe? I remember the 16s are when they changed because I would by 15s on Ebay from Japan until they didn't exist anymore.

What's the coldest you will run in before you hit the treadmill?

  10. From now on whenever I am sad about long sleeves I am going to try to be happy because I know YOU are happy!

  11. Oh dang - I guess if something had to spill in the car it was a good thing it wasn't milk! And big bummer about your clarinet lamp breaking!! Hope you don't have another repeat of that day :(
Heading to Columbus Ohio this weekend for the big race! Can't wait to see some old friends and have some fun running.

  12. Ahhhh I'm so glad the stuff spilled mostly into your cup holders though! I've spilled a lot of things. I once dumped a 4L of milk all over my van carpet. I also spilled an entire box of laundry detergent (the powder kind). I spill everything.
