Today's Friday 5 theme is FOOD & DRINK (per the rules of the Friday 5 Link Up).

I often struggle with what to say about FOOD & DRINK. Does anyone care about what I'm eating and drinking? I guess it is my job as a writer to compel you to read about what I'm eating and drinking! Okay, I will try!

Lately, I've been incorporating some new foods into my diet and bringing in some throwback staples that I haven't eaten in quite awhile.

Here's what's happenin' IN MY BELLY!

1. Corn. I don't know why, but I have never really been into corn. For some reason, Paul got some frozen corn and we started having it to eat with our dinner. I love it! Of course I cover it in salt. Update: Someone just told me there is NO nutritional value in corn. Is this so????

2. Cottage Cheese. I used to eat this a lot but got a little sick of it. I started buying it again and mixing in fruit like peaches and blueberries. I'm into it again!

3. Greek Yogurt. This is the same story as the cottage cheese. One thing though is that I think eating a lot of dairy makes me break out. It will be interesting to see if there's a difference in my skin now that I am eating Greek yogurt and cottage cheese again.

4. Oranges. These tend to be a good snack and a nice little blast of sugar. They don't fill me up for long, so they're only good if I need a little something.

5. Ice cream cones! If you are a longtime reader of my blog, you probably remember I was obsessed with ice cream! This past year I have been in an ice cream lull. But last week at Aldi, I saw some ice cream cones and it really made me hungry for ice cream- in a cone! So I'm back on the ice cream cone bandwagon. Perfect for summer!
Anything new you are eating these days?
Can you tolerate dairy?

Today, I'm linking up with the DC girls for Friday 5!

  1. I have this fruit and veggie wheel from when I taught nutrition class and I was trying to find it for you so I could share the exact stats of corn but I can not find it now ( go figure). But yea, there are definitely better options out there! I am not a fan of corn but it seems to be a summer time staple as many people make corn on the cob.
Can you believe I've never ha cottage cheese? I just can't get bast the texture I guess.

    1. I don't blame you for not liking the cottage cheese texture. It is weird!!

  2. I don't eat much ice cream but will indulge in the occasional froyo treat. However, just last weekend Kevin and I hit up an ice cream joint that made their own waffle cones to order. It was amazing!

    1. Waffle cones are so yummy! I think the last time I had a big 'ol waffle cone was when we were in San Francisco!

  3. Whaaat if that corn fact is true, I had no idea! I don't eat it by itself often but I love getting the corn salsa topping at Chipotle :D

I have never, ever in my life eaten cottage cheese! Adam buys it sometimes as a snack with fruit but there is just nothing appealing about it to me. I'd rather eat greek yogurt although I go through phases with that too!

    1. Yeah I go through phases with Greek yogurt too! I mean, I never really CRAVE greek yogurt but when it is summer berry season I can be more excited to eat it.

  4. I think anything that is natural that comes from Mother Nature is good to eat! I say go for it! I love corn on the cob (if done on the grill, even better). I can't eat dairy which is sad because I love ice cream. Lately I have been really into grilling burgers and eating them all week for lunch. Oh, that and asparagus cooked up any way (but again, grilled is the best).

    1. I agreed, grilling things make them so much better! I love asparagus too!

  5. I don't like ice cream very much but I DO like it in cones. I love it when the waffle cone gets a bit soggy. It's my favourite part!

  6. I hope you are having a great vacation !

Have you read The Obnivoures dilemma? After I read it, I couldn't eat corn for a month! Corn in the USA has been genetically modified severely, almost to the point of no nutrients.

    Ice cream cones are King!!

    2. If you buy your food (meat and veggies) from the right sources (organic farms, farmer's markets, etc) then you can avoid all of that! We have great farmer's markets in CO plus we have our own garden so we feel good about it and the food is so much better!!

  7. My college coach wanted me to boost my weight a little bit, and I did with cottage cheese the whole summer. I couldn't look at a container of cottage cheese for the longest time, and I still don't each much. I'll choose Greek yogurt before that.

    1. Oh my word I don't blame you for never wanting it again!!

  8. I LOVE both cottage cheese and Greek Yogurt. I like to make my own and throw in fresh fruit, or frozen berries. I'm. It surprised dairy makes you break out, from what I've read the hormones used to keep cows producing milk comes through in the milk it's self so your getting am extra dose of estrogen, which will make you break out. Apparently, that makes it super bad for women with PCOS. But, I freaking love it and it's been a staple for me to get calcium. I've tried using the Dairy Pure milk to make yogurt and cheese, but it's super expensive and the end product consistency is different.

    1. Well no wonder it makes me break out! And yes, the verdict is in. My skin is terrible right now. I am thirty freaking three this has to stop.

You are so cool that you can make all of those things!!!

  9. I am an ice cream addict. And not just in the summer time. I eat ice cream almost every day. Which is also why I run. So I can eat ice cream.

  10. We are athletes--we need our carbs!! I agree w/ you, Karen. People also get freaked out by bananas! They have too much "sugar". I sometimes eat 2 bananas per day. Fruit sugar is just another source of fuel. And I think Mother Nature is pretty smart so I am trustful of foods that grow and are not manufactured.

  11. I go on weird binges with cottage cheese. I'll eat it for WEEKS and then suddenly hate it and not touch it for a year or something...and then I'll crave it and eat it constantly again! It's a nice change from yogurt.

    1. Yes, especially in the summer when ya can throw in some fruit!

  12. I think there are much worse foods out there to eat than corn. It's probably not the most nutritious vegetable, but it beats say, potato chips or french fries. Plus it tastes good and the calories ARE fueling your body for workouts. You gotta get the carbs and calories somewhere.

I haven't had ice cream in a cone in forever but that sounds amazing... especially a waffle cone!

    1. I'm totally going to have to google this carb thing. My husband says that it does nothing because we don't digest it... aka it turns up in your poop lol. Maybe I will write a blog post about corn. :)

  13. Omg I can't believe people care about carbs from corn and bananas!!!

  14. I can tolerate dairy but I cannot tolerate corn or any corn containing foods. If I want to stop multiple times to use the bathroom on a run, all I need to eat is corn.
