Weekend Wrap Up!

Happy Monday!!! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Here's what we were up to...

Friday started off with an easy 6 miler around my hood. Then it was off to work... which was actually not horrible! I know that sounds bad, but after two very difficult work weeks, it was nice to have a day that was just... norma.

After work I house cleaned the entire kitchen. It took a long time. I even moved the fridge and cleaned behind it. What a workout!

Oh, and I recorded this VLOG!

Paul made us pork on the grill. It was so damn good, I wish you could taste it!

That night, I was so excited to read this book but I fell asleep about four pages into it! I need to catch up on some sleep, for sure.

After a lazy Saturday morning, Paul and I finally dragged our butts to the gym around noon. We both ended up having EPIC workouts! It is so exciting that he is able to lift weights and do cardio. For the past several years, doing physical activity like that gave him seizures. Now that his treatments have been working, he is able to do these things without worry! We are over the moon!!!

After I lifted, Paul wasn't done yet, so I ended up doing 2.25 miles on the treadmill, then 3.75 miles in the rain when I got home. I was pretty hungry when I got home (before I ran) so I decided it was a good time to try one of my Honey Stinger waffles!

Here is my review:

One waffle had 160 calories and the carbs I would need to get through the second part of my run. It tasted VERY good! It didn't bother my stomach at all, and I literally ran right after I ate it. But, I am generally able to run without problems right after I eat anyway, so it's not like I had a problem digesting food before/during a run and this Honey Stinger waffle solved that problem. It never really was a problem. The waffle was yummy, but it was like $2, so I'm not sure I will be making it a regular part of my fueling! I can buy a box of 12 frozen waffles from Aldi for less than $2.

Okay, back to Saturday!

When I was done running, I showered and got right back into my jammies! It was great to have nothing to do, and the weather was crappy so we weren't motivated to go outside.

I am not ashamed at all to say I indulged in massive amounts of screen time on Saturday. After the crazy week I had, it was just what I needed!

My mom took me to buy plants for my garden and then she helped me plant them. She told me exactly what to do and where they should go. This is the third year she has helped me, and my hope is that next year I feel confident enough to do it alone. All in all, I got 4 tomato plants, 4 peppers, 2 zukes, cilantro, and a butternut squash.

My mom made me take a picture of her shoes. These are Crocs. I know I make fun of Crocs (a lot of people do) but there is no denying that these are stylish!

I ran an easy 8 miles around my hood. After that, all I did was relax for the rest of the day!

It wasn't a super jam packed weekend but it was just what I wanted!

Did you put in your garden yet?
Do you make fun of Crocs?
Tell me something fun you did this weekend!
Do you like Honey Stinger products?

  1. Yup, totally make fun of crocs. My pet peeve is parents who make their kids wear them, they are so dangerous for kids ( and adults). But they are comfy and I wear them around the house and on the boat (not the clog ones though). But actually crocs have come along way as far as being stylish. Remind me to tell you a story about crocs. Is far too long to type! ;)

Oh, I wanted to mention on your last post how much I love Honey Stingers. You have to try all the different flavors. You can actually buy them by the case an they are a little cheaper. The gingersnap one is my fave but definitely more of a fall flavor.
I'm so jealous of the Garden your going to have!!!!

    1. I can't wait to hear your crocs story! Yes I think a lot of them are so ugly, and like you said dangerous. But I couldn't even tell my mom's were rubber!

The honey stingers were definitely good. Maybe if they were $1 I would buy them? I don't know. Like I said I am someone who can eat a bowl of cereal and then go run right away. I don't really have a problem with eating stuff and then running. That is sort of my takeaway from what I read about the waffles? Jam packed with cals, very light to carry, and easily digestible?

  2. I need a garden!! I don't have an area for one right now though so I am just going to have to do potted things like tomatoes. I am ok with that for now though.
I have the vanilla honey stinger waffles on hand at my house almost always. I keep them for those days when I need to eat but have to run soon. My kids eat all my snack food so these are something I know I always will have. Except my 13 yr old discovered them and ate like 3 for a "snack" one day. Now they are hidden! haha

    1. Oh man I don't blame you for having to hide them! That is an expensive "snack"!!

  3. First of all, can I just say how happy it makes me to hear that Paul is getting his life back! This is awesome news for both of you! Yay for a garden, and yay for moms that jump in to help! I do love HER crocs but as a rule "no crocs in my life". They are just a really bad idea on many levels. I am with you on the nutrition. Granted I don't run long distances but I bike long distances and I have never had to use anything but real food. I do understand the convenience of the store bought stuff but I am stubborn and I think I would find something that was cheaper if I needed it all the time. P.S. how nice is it to be able to eat and then immediately work out? I do it all the time. I had a hamburger the other morning for breakfast (don't judge) and then went out and did my run just fine!

    1. It is great to be able to literally eat and run. My only "issue" is that I have to go to the bathroom A LOT in the morning and of course race day. But it doesn't have to do with the food, because even week day mornings when I run before bfast I use the bathroom several times.

  4. I am very glad that Paul is feeling better and is able to work out! Those are fantastic news!

That is so wonderful of your mom coming to help you with the garden! I'm jealous of both!

By the way, I showed Roger your Vlog, and he was all curious about the Hanson Method, and is now considering using it for PR on his half Marathon... which means he will have me doing some Hanson training... I don't know what that will mean for me.

    1. Did you read the book? Did he read it? The book is awesome! It's at the library.

    2. No, I didn't read the book. Roger ordered it today, so I'll let you know what happens with that.

  5. I used to really like the Honey Stinger chews but I've been hesitant to try the waffles. I was worried they would be too sweet? I switched from the chews to Gu because Gu is so much more convenient to hold on race day. I can fit several packs of Gu in my armband, whereas I couldn't even fit one chew pack in my armband! I don't even know where I would put the waffle!

I just Google'd what type of vegetables I can grow on my patio. My biggest concern is that we don't get a lot of natural sunlight on the patio. It mostly gets blocked by the building that's next to us. I see that some veggies can grow in shade but they still seem to require a few hours of sunlight :( I want a garden!

    1. They are sweet. They taste like dessert. :) Which I like, but I can understand how some would not want something sweet like that. The waffle is actually very thin so if you wore a waste pack hypothetically it could maybe fit in there???

You want a garden, I want a pool. Invite me over to swim and I will bring veggies. :)

  6. Honey Stinger Waffles are the shit! They are so expensive but I save them for right before my marathon race paced tempo runs. I don't eat much in the hours leading up to that workout and then the waffle about 30 minutes before I go out. It's perfect.

    1. Awesome! I did think they tasted really good.

  7. It is so awesome that you and Paul can workout together! I'm happy to hear that. :)

I remember how great your garden grew last year! I am hoping to try to grow more veggies this year.

    1. Oh cool what are you going to plant?

I know I am so happy for him. He can hardly believe it. Today he hike for like 5 hrs with his friend and they ran the last 1/2 mile! I can't imagine not being able to workout for like 3 years and BOOM being able to!

  8. I agree with you on the honey stingers! They taste good, I can run right after I eat them, but they are kind of expensive. We get them on amazon and I think they are about $1 per waffle on subscribe and save.

  9. Honey Stingers make those waffles GF now, but I don't like them on the run...or even right before. They're SO sweet!! They'd be a good afternoon snack after work though.

I feel you on having a normal work day. I honestly don't even want to look at my students sometimes. This time of year is HARD.

    1. It sooooo is :( We are soon done!!!

Yah they are so sweet! I am weird I like that. :) I think it's because I'm used to eating cereal before weekend long runs. Not that I eat like lucky charms or anything, but most cereal is fairly sweet.
