Weekly Workout Recap!

This was taper week for the half marathon that I am running TODAY. POSSIBLY RIGHT NOW!! (If you are reading between 8:00am-10:00am EST.)

Even though I like to taper HARD, I did have some fun this week!

Saturday- Somehow I knew I was going to have an AWESOME run. I was right. I had a great podcast, it was so warm that I only wore shorts and a sports bra, and my ass/hammy did not bother me at all! (It felt weird about a half hour after I was done, but then it disappeared. I can't complain.) The goal of this 10 miler was to just get in some easy miles. Well, easy on this day was a lot faster than easy has been for me! This was another one of those runs where I had to force myself to slow down. I wasn't huffing and puffing at all. THIS IS GOOD. MAYBE I AM MAKING PROGRESS???

Splits: 8:19, 8:10, 8:13, 7:59, 8:11, 8:00, 8:09, 8:08, 8:01, 7:47

Sunday- We went to Planet Fitness and I lifted there for the first time in 10 months! I got to do some exercises I can't do at home, like lat pull down, bench press, inverted row, and tricep push downs with the rope attachment for the cable machine. I can tell you, over the past 10 months, I have definitely gotten stronger!

Paul spotted me on bench press and I was able to do 95lb! (That includes the bar.) Now, at Planet Fitness you have to bench with the smith machine, so I realize if I had to stabilize the bar myself, I would have been able to lift a lot less. But it is still more than I was doing 10 months ago. I tried to do 105lb twice but I just couldn't get the bar up and Paul had to help me. Oh well. Someday!

I also got to bump up some of my free weight stuff since they had some in between weights that I don't have- particularly 12.5, 17.5, and 22.5. I think for my birthday this year I am going to purchase myself those in between weights.

The other gain I was excited about was my lat pull downs with the cable machine. I did 8x80lb, 6x90lb, and 4x100lb! I never did above 80lb on that before so that was very exciting. It was also kind of funny that to pull down the bar when it was on 100lb, I had to jump up and use all of my body weight to bring it down!

Monday- 5 easy miles around my hood. I had a great podcast, it was warm, and I felt fresh. GOOD RUN!

Tuesday- The same exact story as Monday except I did 6 miles instead. The end!

Friday- Complete rest! We had off school today, so it was fun to really have the entire day free of all commitments!
How were your workouts this week?
Are there any exercises you can do at the gym but not at home?

  1. Good luck today, Megan! I had my typical run, swim, bike sessions this week. Lifting every day now! Yes, so many things I can do at the gym that I don't have in my home gym. Found out a gym is opening like 2 blocks from my house and it's open 24 hours. I am so happy to join and be able to really get the workouts in that I want to.

    2. I know...it's awesome. I can go for my run or my ride and get right over there to get in the weight session I want. Even on our crappy snow days, I could go over and use the elliptical and weights. I am excited.

  2. The only thing I did this week was run the marathon on Monday other than that the only thing they got any sort of physical activity was my thumb from pressing the remote. I'm really hoping to do some easy runs coming up this week.

    1. Well you certainly deserve the rest- mentally and physically. You trained very hard and of course ran a freaking MARATHON!! Were you sore?
