Weekend Wrap Up!

Good Monday Morning, Dear Readers!

Today's Weekend Wrap Up will be brought to you in LIST FORM because it's my blog and I'll do what I want! Here is what we were up to this weekend...

On Friday night, my parents came over for a taco dinner! We had so much fun chatting and dressing up for the fiesta...

I finished my book about the Jodi Arias Trial- Conviction, by the prosecutor of the case, Juan Martinez. I enjoyed the book a lot, but since I followed the case so closely and watched the trial on Youtube more than once (I know, it's weird) there wasn't much new information I could gleam from this book. There was one fascinating detail, but I won't go into it because you probably don't care!

I broke out a new pair of running shoes. They were on super sale so I bought 3 pairs... which means I will be stuck wearing this exact design for the next year or so!

On Saturday night we traveled to Philly to hang out with Cheetah and Maggie! They made us a taco dinner (DE JA VU!) and we played a fun game called Ace of Hates. We spent the night and came home Sunday morning. But for some reason when I got on the turnpike, there was no toll booth for me to get a ticket from, so when we got off the turnpike we were charged $26 for the ENTIRE TURNPIKE! I understand that rule because they don't want people lying, but what I don't understand is why there was no toll booth when we got on the turnpike in the first place. The only thing I can think of is maybe we got on at a spot where you were only allowed on if you had EZ Pass. There were absolutely no booths to grab a ticket from... it's not like we were in the wrong lane or something. But if that's the case, I wish the signage was better. Between Paul and I, we didn't see any signs saying, "Beware, only get on this ramp for 276 if you have EZ Pass." Rant over!

PennDOT = Ace of Hates.

I started and completed this Charles Wysocki puzzle called Sunny Side Up. Wysocki puzzles are my current favorite!

I went on two runs this weekend. Saturday was a tempo run. I warmed up with 1.5 miles, did 5 miles @ tempo pace, then cooled down with 1.5 miles. My first three miles were right around a 7:14 pace. My fourth mile was a 7:20 and my fifth was 7:09, so I was a little off track at the end. It's hard to be exactly consistent.

This run was done in SHORTS! It was nearly 60 degrees!

I did not feel like running on Sunday, but once I was out there, I was glad I did. This was supposed to be an easy run, and I swear I wasn't trying to push myself. I need to be better at keeping easy runs easy. I blame it on listening to the Donald Trump town hall from the other night. He makes me so angry, so I am sure that put a little pep in my step.

And that was my weekend. We did so much! Two taco nights, 14 miles, traveling the entire length of the PA Turnpike... Now it's off to tackle another week. I'll talk to yas tomorrow!

Did you wear shorts on your run this weekend?

Any annoying PennDOT stories you want to share to make me feel better?

Tell me something fun you did this weekend!

  1. Tollways suck. End of story. I swear Mexican is the best party food. You parents are hipsters!

  2. I love shoe sales!! I've bought two pairs before. It's so hard to find my size, so I rarely get to partake in sales (I wear a narrow).

I got to wear shorts last week! I was so happy! Unfortunately, I didn't run at all this weekend because I am sick. I did go camping on Saturday night, and it was nice to breath some fresh air, but I probably should have huddled up in bed more.

    1. I imagine it is hard to find narrow! You have such delicate little feet. :)

      Camping!? What was the temp?

I hope you feel better. <3

  3. I want to know the interesting new tidbit you learned from the book! No shorts running in Colorado, yet. I ran Saturday and yesterday I rode my bike! OUTSIDE. It was chilly but felt awesome to be back on the bike. Run today since tomorrow we get snow so I will swim. We saw Race this weekend. Great movie!

    1. We were possibly going to get snow tomorrow too but it has all turned to rain. I am very glad about that. I am just hoping the rain starts AFTER my 8 miler tomorrow morning. I guess I should check the weather!

Okay, the interesting tidbit is regarding the gas cans. Arias saved all of her receipts from her road trip basically so she would have evidence to say, "See, I was not in AZ" because she didn't stop for gas or buy anything while in that state. The reason she had enough gas is because she borrowed 2 cans from an ex boyfriend (which she admits, she says it was to save money and precautionary so she wouldn't get stranded in the dessert), but she also bought a gas can from Wal Mart- so she had THREE gas cans. Plenty to get her through AZ. Well she claims she returned the 3rd gas can because she realized she didn't need it. It was proven at the trial that wal mart has ZERO record of her returning the gas can. So even though she only admits to 2 gas cans, she did have 3. The interesting tid bit is that the police investigators did not notice this detail, but the prosecutor did. And he didn't want the defense to know that he knew and thought the gas can was important. Now, he wasn't withholding evidence because the defense had copies of all the receipts as did the prosecutor. He just noticed it was an important detail and never mentioned it no anyone... and he never questioned any of the witnesses being called to the stand about it because he didn't want Jodi to know and craft a story to explain it away. He also saved the gas can line of questioning until the very last day she was on the stand- when he was doing his follow up questioning with her. And that was risky because you can only follow up about facts in evidence and things relevant to what was already testified to. But he was smart enough that even though it was a risk to take, that he could wait until the very end of her questioning to ask her about it and she had NO CLUE it was coming so she could not concoct a story. And before anyone things that this was wrong to do, if she really had returned the gas can, it could have been proved because wal mart would have had a receipt of it. And on the prosecution's rebuttal case, he called a rep from wal mart to go through the returns process and prevent all the records from what was returned to the wal mart during that time period, and no one returned that gas can. So he was able to prove her wrong. Juan is awesome. I had a dream about him last night. He was prosecuting a case but he didn't have shoes on, only socks.

    2. Wow, that is awesome. I love how into trials you get. You really should be an investigator or lawyer. You would be good. P.S. funny dream!! LOL.

    3. It would be fun to be a lawyer but way too hard! I'd rather just watch and learn and be entertained! :)

  4. Yesterday I did the one minute per mile cool down thing. It adds on a lot of extra time at the end... I wonder if there is a point of diminishing returns? Like, if you do a 20 mile run do you really need to walk for 20 minutes after or would 10 minutes give you the same benefits?

That's so annoying about the $26 charge. Here in Florida they have cameras that take a picture of your license when you go through a toll area and don't pay. Sometimes the Sunpass (our version of the EZ pass) glitches and doesn't get scanned or some people don't have them so they just take a pic of your license and send you a $1 bill in the mail! I forgot to pay my $1 bill one time and they penalized me by doubling the charge ... so I had to pay $2! haha

    2. I am guessing there is a point of diminishing returns, unless you truly to get joy out of walking! I was actually thinking about that, even though I don't see myself running 20 miles anytime soon! I realize 1 min per mile is a pretty arbitrary decision.

I am scared that I am going to get some kind of fine in the mail! Even though I was already charged $26...

  5. I buy all my running shoes on sale (I wear Asics Gel Nimbus) so sometimes I get whatever color they have. I always say I don't care but, when I got those yellow shoes I was pretty excited!

My sister gave my dad a puzzle mat for his birthday. I guess you can roll up your puzzle and roll it back out when you want to start up again and it will stay exactly how you left it. Who knew?

    1. I am the same, I'd rather get them for half the price and have an ugly color than pay full price and get the color I want... BUT it sure is nice when the stars align and the color you like is on sale! Your yellow ones are REALLY nice, I remember them from your pics! I wore yellow wave riders for about a year, then I wore orange for like 2 years (I guess no one liked the orange color!?), now I have these weird black ones. I don't like the color but I liked the price.

I think I need some puzzle mats!! I have a board I sometimes work on because then I can move it around, but these 1000 piece puzzles are too big for the board I have.

  6. What brand of running shoe is that?

  7. I did wear shorts! I wore them yesterday and I was FREEZING. Shorts help me run faster and I was hoping the shorts would help me nail my tempo paces, but the wind killed it for me. It took me hours to warm up after.

Your weekend sounded great! Tacos twice?! Awesome. I haven't had tacos in forever!

    1. The second taco night was a nice surprise! :)

I understand the shorts = faster. I feel like I run faster the less clothing I have on! And even if it's mental, if it works, it works!

  8. Oh that toll booth thing would have made me SO mad. I'd be contacting Penn Dot...haha.
I have those exact same Waverider 18's and I love them. I have the black and teal color you have and also another color which I was wearing the day we took that LONG walk!

  9. I had to run early on Saturday so it wasn't warm enough for shorts yet. But it's been so nice to not have to wear a million layers!

    1. It is freeing! :) I purposefully waited until later so I could run when it was the warmest.

  10. Should you read the book... If you want to know more about the TRIAL, yes. There is a lot of direct transcript from the trial. If you want kind of an overview of what all happened, it is very informative. If you already know what happened, there isn't a lot of new info. Her attny also wrote a book! That one was REALLY good and it's only part 1 of 3! :) I did see Juan on Dr. Phil. I wish the whole show would have been him. He barely talked at all!

  11. I need taco night in my life! Your taco night with your parents looks so super fun! Love getting shoes on super sale - makes it so much more manageable!
