Weekend Wrap Up!

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Basically, my weekend can be summed up in one word:

Here's the low down... or, the SNOW down! (HAHAHA!)

Warning: This is a long one. But if you are snowed in, you may be happy for something to do!

I wore quite the interesting outfit to work on Friday... It appeared I picked out all the black and white patterns found in my wardrobe and paired them together. Whatevs. I teach children ages 5-10. They probably thought I looked awesome.

That afternoon, the winter storm hit earlier than expected. Paul took some "before" shots.

Later on the evening, after there was an accumulation of about 4 inches, we bundled up and went for a walk. It was cold, but beautiful!

My alarm went off at 5:45. I forgot to deactivate it. EFFFFF!!!! That sucked, especially since I couldn't fall back asleep. It was just an opportunity to get a lot of work done on this bad boy I started the night before...

The title is "Hickoryhaven in Winter".
It's the perfect puzzle for being snowed in!

When I looked out our bay windows, I was surprised to see that there was a bit more snow than I thought there would be...

By Saturday evening...

After the snow plow came through and created a tall and wide wall of snow at the entrance to our driveway, I said to Paul, "That's it, we are officially STUCK!"

But it was okay. We are homebodies anyway. I lifted, cleaned out the fridge, organized the pantry, and even delved into my jewelry box.

Before!

After!

This will last 2 weeks at the most.

That afternoon, a dream was realized. It took me 3 months, but I finally ate this entire can of French Fried Onions all by myself. Every bite was delish!

Later on that evening, I ventured out to start making a dent in the shoveling. It was so deep I had to shovel in layers. After a little while, my neighbor came by with his snow blower and did my whole driveway! He saved me an hour and a half- at least!!! I was so thankful. (Spoiler Alert: I brought his family chicken noodle soup and brownies I made the next day as a thank you!)

Let the sun shine! I awoke to bright sun beams! The snow was practically glowing. After a day of dark foggy snow, Chrissy was excited to find a sun square.

By the looks of what everyone was saying on Facebook, we were lucky that our neighborhood was actually plowed! Many of my friends live in neighborhoods that had not even been touched yet. Our hood had about one lane plowed. After consulting with a neighbor, I determined I would be making the one mile trip to Aldi. I was in the mood to COOK!

But first I lifted. Then I shoveled a wider path for my car and helped a neighbor widen their driveway. Boy was I pooped! Finally, I made the trek to Aldi...

I would rate my neighborhood streets an F minus. I even got stuck about 30 seconds from my house. But I was more determined than ever to get out of that situation on my own because Paul had advised me not to go anywhere! I did not need a big fat I TOLD YOU SO, so I put my car in reverse, gunned it through the pile of snow that was blocking my path, and made it out of my hood. (It wasn't a big pile or anything, but it was big for my little Chevy Cobalt.) Once I was out of our neighborhood, the roads were fine.

I made it home safe and sound and I cooked! Chicken noodle soup, quinoa, roasted rosemary potatoes, and brownies! We had enough food to last us until March!

The rest of my Sunday was quite relaxing. I did all the normal snowed in things like read, do a puzzle, and work on my blog. I was in a good mood because school was CLOSED the next day. I don't always like when school is closed (we have to make up the day anyway), but it is always nice to know way ahead of time so I can look forward to the day off and stay up late. Because that is the fun part about having off, right? Staying up late knowing you can sleep in and do your own thang the next day!

So that was my snowy weekend! If you read this thing word for word, I commend you! Leave me a comment??? I check my blog stats and each of my posts gets around 100+ views but only a couple comments. I would love to hear more from my readers!!! And obviously, thank you to those of you who always comment. It is awesome to get to know you all, and I feel like you are my friends!

Tell me what you did this weekend!
Do you like French Fried Onions?
Does your jewelry box get as bad as mine?
Have you ever gotten stuck in the snow?

  1. Snow day---lucky you! Enjoy it. That is so nice you made your neighbor the food for snow blowing your drive. When my neighbor does that for us, I do the same thing and I always feel like I am living in times gone past because it feels like a barter, ya know?!?

Saturday we watched 2 nephews play basketball and also saw 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. A very good movie--powerful. Yesterday was meeting a friend to lift then home to watch the Broncos WIN!

I normally take Sundays off but ran both days because we were supposed to get some snow last night so I figured I would rest today. We got nothing and I am completely OK with that. We still have ice on our street from a storm we got the first week in December. For me, the struggle is real. Challenging to keep a good attitude but thankful for all the things I have so I keep reminding myself of those (and counting down until spring...).

    1. IT FELT LIKE OLDEN TIMES TO ME TOO! I felt all old-timey walking down the street through the snow to drop off food. Funny. :) I think when you get to be our age, you appreciate more a thoughtful gesture like homemade food than just throwing a couple bucks to the person.

GO BRONCOS! When they showed Tom Brady leaving the field and walking through the tunnel, I said to Paul: We walked through that tunnel!!!!!! Then they showed him walk past the mural on the wall that says "Welcome to Denver" and the elevation. I said, WE STOOD IN FRONT OF THAT!!! Then they showed him walking into the visitors lockerroom and I said "WE WERE IN THERE!!!!" Seriously that stadium tour was so cool and I don't even like football.

The good news is that January is just abut over. The way I see it, 8 more weeks of COLD and then April will be the light at the end of the tunnel. WE CAN DO THIS.

    2. I would have been the same way about the Bronco locker room. You guys basically know them :)

Yes, we can do this! I am glad we can motivate each other.

  2. I'm worried about getting stuck in the snow this year... I've always had jeeps so snow is a non issue (just drive over it, while towing others hahah) but now I have a Subaru Outback which I guess is good in snow? But quite unlike what I'm used to. Ugh.

    1. If it makes you feel better, my dad has a Subaru Outback and he drove 45 min to work over a MOUNTAIN yesterday and made it! But yeah I am sure you would feel waaaaay more confident in a jeep. :)

  3. Woah! That's a lot of snow! When I lived in Indiana, I would get stuck all the time and it was pretty frustrating to get my little car out. I haven't had that problem since moving to Kansas... I'm kinda hoping for no more snow!

  4. We didn't get ANY snow from this storm--we are too far north. We still have snow from earlier in the week. I am hoping that the somewhat warmer air will melt the ice slick that is our driveway.
I did get stuck in a friends driveway in the snow. I was trying to back out. I now have a 4WD Pilot, so I can get thru almost anything. Enjoy your snow day today!!

    1. I am determined that after my little Chevy Cobalt dies, I am going to get something SUBSTANTIAL with 4WD. My Cobalt is like a death trap in the snow.

  5. I have a Jeep, and every time it snows, I am so grateful for my 4 wheel drive.

I'm sure your snow will all melt quickly! But enjoy it while you can.

  6. Oh that is so nice that your neighbor had a snow blower! We were talking to our neighbors about pitching in and all buying one. I think that would make alot of sense! We had to dig our the wall from the plow and it was awful because it was so packed and heavy. We haven't driven anywhere yet but are considering venturing to the grocery store today. I guess I need to see if civilization still exists out there!

    1. It exists! I hope you get out! Going together and buying one is a great idea. I don't even know how much they cost...

  7. Your outfit on Friday is awesome. I love that you don't give two and a half shits. Kitties that sleep on a warm sunny spot on the floor are my favourite thing in the whole world. My second favourite is when a car drives by me running and their dog's head is out the window, smiling, tongue flapping in the wind.

  9. Even living in Cleveland for 13 years, I don't remember this kind of giant snowstorm ever happening the way it's happened over the past couple years. Talk about intense winters! We were lucky to get one or two snow days a year, and you've had like twenty over the past two!

I love the before/after of your jewelry box!

    1. I think we are going to have off tomorrow too. :( Neighborhoods are 1 lane right now and there is no way busses will get back there. Darnit! We were going to get out June 2nd this year and now it will be later.

  10. What a great week Meagan! What?? I think your outfit was just fine! I often will wear my workout leggings to work! So comfy!! I loved seeing all the pictures of the snow, but yall keep that stuff up there! Down here in Mississippi we don't quite know what to make of it so therefore we go a little cray-cray crazy! ;) Cleaning out and organizing is a great way to be productive in light of the weather! I'd love to invite you to join us for #WeeklyWrap where we support other active women. This post would be perfect! Hope you'll check us out and consider it. Have a great week.

  11. Yup, I read every word ( as usual). I have a shirt that is black and white tiny geometric design and I've stopped wearing it cus I feel bad for the kids who have to look at it. I'm sure it hurts their eyes!

Yay for snow days! I don't mind making them up if they are tacked on to the end of the year but it's a bummer when it takes from your Spring break or any other holiday.

I am the opposite. I do NOT want them tacked on!

  12. Wow, that's a lot of snow!!! We're getting pounded right now. :(

Okay, I check my blog stats every day as well and we are super similar. I get so few comments but lots of views. I think if I comment more I'd get more comments. Sometimes it's hard because I read a lot of blogs on my phone which is super crappy to comment with and lots of times it doesn't even go through!!! grr.

I did read every word. :)

I don't have a phone so I never tried to comment on one, but every time I try to do something other than take a PICTURE w/ Paul's phone, I get ROYALLY pissed off because I am just not good at it.
