Weekend Wrap Up!

New Weekend Wrap Up image for winter!
BIG STUFF going on here at Meg Go Run!

I hope your weekend was awesome and you were able to stay warm!
We finally turned our heat on so things are quite comfortable here on Cumberland Road...

On Friday, I did what I normally do... went home, curled up in my jammies, and stayed in for the night... but my GIRLFRIENDS came over!!!

Girls night with Karen and Andrea! Just a couple of your every day music teachers...

Andrea plays the saxophone and started a saxophone quartet... so naturally she had to share this hilarious "Sexy Sax Guy" video with us!

I could NOT STOP LAUGHING!

On Saturday morning, I went for an awesome group run with a bunch of awesome people!

Brrrr it was cold!
On another note, I forgot how bad sweaty gloves smell. GROSS!!!!!

I was ravenous the entire rest of the day. I just could not satiate myself. I would eat something, then 30 minutes later my stomach would start growling again. My food intake after my run on Saturday looked like this:

- 4 blueberry toaster waffles
- 6 turkey meatballs on couscous, 1 string cheese
- 1/2 a cookie
- pasta w/ chicken, broccoli, and turkey bacon in it
- protein shake
- cheerios w/ a banana
- LOTS of veggies, crackers, cheese, buffalo pretzels, a piece of chocolate cake, candy corn, and scotch (game night, this was basically my dinner)
- 2 cookies and a brownie, milk (right before bed, naturally)

Ugh, that's a lot of sweets! And Paul and I were trying to limit our sweet intake this week! I think I may have to abandon that idea and just realize some nights I will eat a lot of sweets, some nights I won't, and it will all even out in the end!

Nevertheless, we had a ton of fun at Doug and Jen's house for game night!

Paul likes Doug's nuts.

Doug and Jen have 3 adorable children and 2 adorable dogs.
Melchi wanted to come home with us... I swear!

I felt so invigorated from my cold run on Saturday that I decided to embrace the cold weather again! I had some awesome pod casts to listen to and all the time in the world! My achilles felt pretty tight at first, so I stopped and stretched. I thought it was going to get worse and I'd have to cut my run short, but it didn't, and I managed another strong 10 miles!

Then I had to run some errands I tried to do on Saturday. You see, on Saturday afternoon, I was supposed to go to Michael's (craft store right down the street from me) to get some ribbons for my recorder students. Do you know what all the rich housewives of Camp Hill do Saturdays afternoons? Go shopping for crafts at Michael's. As soon as I walked into the crowded store, I knew I'd see someone I know!

The problem was, I was dressed like TRASH. I had on clunky generic UGG boots, grey leggings with cat hair on them, an IUP sweatshirt with a ripped pocket, and NO MAKE UP. And just between you and me, I am looking pretty rough without makeup on these days. As soon as I walked into the store, I saw an old piano student and his mom walking right toward me. They didn't see me because I immediately ducked into the scrapbooking aisle and then turned around and headed right out of the store.

So on Sunday, I actually made myself look halfway decent for my big trip to Michael's. Of course I didn't see anyone I know because that is the way the universe works, right?

After my big trip to the craft store, Jelly and I read a book!

Have you ever left a store so you didn't have to talk to someone?
What did you think of Sexy Sax Guy?
Did you have a good run this weekend?

  1. Great running Meg! Saturday I ran 10 miles too!! If we lived closer we could run together. :) Isn't that the way things happen though: You always see people when you look like crap. I certainly can agree with that. When I'm all dressed nicely...no one.

  2. Nice job on the 2 ten mile runs! You are SO strong. And totally OK that you have a day where you eat more than you normally do. Re-fueling + pre-fueling, right? I mean, it isn't always the case but when I eat more, I have some really awesome runs/workouts. As you know, trust your body will balance out.

    1. Maybe that is why I had such a good run on Sun- all the cake, brownies, and candy corn!? Hehehe. Oh well, I will take it. :) Today my lower body is resting and I'm lifting chest. I don't think I need to run today.

  3. I don't always feel that strong, and honestly, there is no rhyme or reason behind that strong run since it's not like I took a rest day beforehand! I'm trying to maintain my speed without doing true speedwork so I don't anger my IT band. I am going to head over to your blog and read your race recap!

  4. I always wondered if teachers felt a little bit like local celebrities. Do parents come up to you all the time and want to talk while you're out in public?

Melchi is such a cute puppy!

    1. Well it definitely helps that I don't live in the district I teach in. So no one sees me running or going to the grocery store... even at the gym I can only count on one hand how many times I have seen parents. So that is good. If I do see parents/kids out shopping, unless I know the parents really well, they tend to both act sort of awkward! The trick is to just keep walking, don't stop. "Hi, how are you???" and keep walking with a smile. Or, if you don't have make up on, GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE!

  5. The days that I drive my kids to school in old sweats and stop at the store, bed head and all, that's when I bump into someone I know--So funny that you were able to duck into an aisle and go unnoticed...
Great splits on your run! Love the pink :)

  6. I have thought about leaving stores so I didn't have to talk to people. Buuuuuttttt, because I am me I just suck it up and go. I will keep convo short and do what I can to avoid it!!! I am not a teacher though either so I don't have an image to uphold with the people of my town! I do coach but those parents all expect me to be in running gear all the time!! I have been loving the running in cold weather, feels very refreshing!!

    1. I should probably suck it up too but if I don't have makeup on I am too self conscious!

    1. Thanks, Lacey! I don't know why I was just feeling good that day. :) I haven't done speedwork in awhile so I'm kind of trying to maintain speed...

  8. Good job getting your run in the cold! When I was flying home over labor day weekend I ended up sitting with one of my former students and I looked like exhausted crap. I had just run a half marathon, then drove 6 hours to the airport. I was SO embaressed. -M

  9. I had an awesome 20 mile run this weekend! Now it's smooth sailing until the marathon in three weeks. I am a big fan of game nights and I'm curious, what games do you guys play?

    1. I just read your blog, you sure did have a great run. :) Glad you can relax... just in time for cold weather! Game nights... the games we normally play are: Smart Ass, Buzzword, What Were You Thinking, Zero, Cards Against Humanity... Taboo, Consensus... you know, all the fun party games! This past Sat. all we played was consensus because we ended up talking too much! :)

  10. Wow - great job on those cold runs! I'm a wimp when it's cold!!
I know exactly what you mean about seeing people when you are looking your worst!!! I'm sort of at a point where I don't care too much anymore but I hate when the person I sees is looking super cute and I"m a hot mess - oh well.

  11. My appetite usually goes insane on days where I exercise less. I've been trying to add in one rest day a week where I don't do any FORMAL exercise, but instead do something like go for a walk or deep clean my house. It's that day that my body is like, "FEED ME NOW!" I just go with it and imagine my muscles growing.
