I'm a Lil' Liebster!

Thank you to Cassie @ Rural Running Redhead of nominating me for another Liebster Award! I think these awards are a great way for bloggers to share and get to know each other better! My job is to answer the questions posed to me by Cassie, and then nominate other bloggers to answer new questions I have written! The magic number is 11.

Here we go...

1.    What accomplishment from 2014 are you most proud of (so far)?

I'm pretty much proud of just not losing my shit over this past year. It has been very stressful, but I think I did as good of a job as I could have.

2.    What’s the most awesome place you have ever run/biked/etc.? Bonus points for including a picture.

I need to mention two awesome places!

The first is the Dipsea Trail in Northern California. It goes from Stinson Beach to Muir Woods. I did not run the entire trail, but I got to do some of it. The best part was running toward Stinson Beach- panoramic ocean views!

The second is running next to the Flatirons in Boulder, Colorado. Even though I was trying desperately hard to breathe (damn elevation!!!), it was one of the most beautiful runs I ever did!

3.    What’s your T.V. guilty pleasure?

To me, guilty pleasure refers to shows I enjoy that are either horrible, nonsense, fluffy, or just plain stupid. I happen to enjoy a lot of shows like this, which include, but are not limited to: Nancy Grace, Dr. Phil, Dr. Drew on Call, Real Housewives of New York City (old seasons), anything with Bethenny Frankel (love to hate her), and The View.

This picture always cracks me up.
I love you, Nancy!

4.    And your workout song guilty pleasure?

I generally do not listen to music when I workout!

5.    If you had to switch careers, what would your next career be?

I would like to say being a full time personal trainer, but I feel like that would be really hard to make a living off of, as well as obtain health insurance and save for retirement. So I am going to go for a more practical career and work for the state. Doing what, I don’t know. Probably something that does not involve talking to people.

6.    Describe your dream run.

These are some races I would love to run. Right now, if I had to pick one of them, I would choose the Silver Falls Trail 1/2 Marathon in Oregon. It looks GORGEOUS!

7. Do you enjoy working out with your significant other, or would you rather work out alone?

Years ago, Paul and I went for one run together. It did not turn out well, as I critiqued his gait no less than 3 minutes into the run. My bad. I didn't start lifting until after Paul was unable to lift. (He started having seizures, and the seizures are provoked by physical activity. Unless we are in Colorado and he has the proper medication he needs.) So even though I love working out alone, I would love to go to the gym with Paul and lift together! I could just want what I can't have. Oh well, maybe someday it will happen.

8. If I came to visit you, what would we do?

We would go for a run on the Appalachian Trail because I think that is something most of my out of state/not close to mountains blogger friends would be interested in doing! Afterwards, we'd have game night at my house!

My favorite spot on the AT!

9. What’s your favorite post-long-run/race food?

After a marathon, I LOVE ordering greasy pizza and subs, and then just munching on it for the rest of the day!

10. What is your typical breakfast? (I’m getting bored with mine. I need some ideas).

Special K Protein Plus or Shredded Wheat after a run, or Cheerios and chicken breast after I lift. I know those are not great ideas!

11. If you could time travel for a day, where would you spend it?

Dang, you got me. Okay, I will have to say Fall River, MA in 1892. I would hang out at the Lizzie Borden house and find out once in for all who killed her parents. (I am reading a book about the murders right now so of course I'm wrapped up in it!)

Okay, my turn to nominate! If you have already been nominated before, too bad! You get to do it again! Or don't do it. But I would love to read your answers!

  1. I hope it is OK but I decided to answer the questions. I am taking a full rest day (had some cortisone yesterday) so am in bed, drinking coffee and just being very compliant and resting a ton. I felt like sharing so here goes:

    1. What is your current health related goal?
To find more balance and “less is more”. Not only to stay healthy and injury free but to free up some mind space that is constantly telling me to push harder
    2. What is your biggest irrational fear?
I am not sure I have irrational fears (I am sure I do but cannot think of any right now) but I fear losing loved ones—and I have (mom, brother in law, friends) and I am OK. Very empowering
    3. Do you enjoy wrapping presents?
    Yes
    4. What's your favorite cross training activity?
If running is considered the main activity than swimming takes a close 2nd (if not tied with running). Water heals my body & soul
    5. If I came to visit you, what would we do?
Go run in Boulder then spend the rest of the day bumming on the Pearl Street Mall, eating, drinking, shopping (Trader Joes, PrAna, Boulder Bookstore, etc)
And then the next day Rick and I would take you guys to a Bronco game.
    6. You have 2 weeks off of work and 2 round trip plane tickets to ANYWHERE. Where would you go and who would you take?
I would take Rick and we would go rent a condo on a beach in Costa Rica. Spend our days running, hiking, walking, water sports and lots of good eats and drinks.
    7. What's the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you during a run or race?
Not applicable but I have taken some epic falls when both running and (just) walking.
    8. Tell me the 3 best days of your life. Or at least the first 3 that pop into your mind.
Being born because I love my life and my family; meeting Rick because we immediately took this journey together that has taught me more than I could ever imagine; the day my sister’s son was born—we don’t have any children but are like mom & dad to Kyle so I really am blessed I get to be a “mom” (but also have the life I envisioned for Rick and I)
    9. Okay, you HAVE to eat a fast food meal. What restaurant would you choose and what would you order?
Does Subway count? That’s my go to. But if I have to choose something less “healthy” than I think I would just down a Papa John’s pizza (first taking major lactaid since I am lactose intolerant)
    10. Have you ever met a celebrity?
I got back stage at a Scorpions concert when I was 18. It was amazing.
    11. Share a picture of yourself in non workout clothes!
I don’t think I have the ability to share a photo but you know what I look like :)

    1. Susan I am glad you answered all of these, that was a fun read! No, Subway doesn't count but Papa John's does!!! ;) I love your itinerary for if we ever come visit! Do they sell margaritas at Broncos games though???? Hahahaha.

    2. Of course, they do. We don't mess around here in Colorado. Good eats, good drinks and the ever important edibles (which are not sold in the stadium but perhaps some day...)

      Delete
    3. Haha I am sure people get the edibles in there somehow!

  2. I love Northern California. Running Big Sur was the most beautiful place to run. Agreed. I would love to do personal training full time as well. But that won't pay the bills. -L

    1. We drove through Big Sur, it would be a dream to run that marathon!

  3. Hey, thanks for nominating me!
Lizzie Borden--I was SO SCARED of the story when I was a kid. We moved from KY to MA (near Fall River) , and kids told me about it. I couldn't sleep for weeks. I would cry when we drove through Fall River. I don't think I could handle the book as an adult even!!

    1. Okay I am going to geek out and say THAT IS SO COOL THAT YOU HAVE BEEN TO FALL RIVER!!! I would go in the house for a tour, but I would NOT stay there overnight. Even though I don't believe in ghosts AT ALL, it still would freak me out!

  4. Thanks for nominating me Meg! I truly love these posts where you can find out some interesting facts about your favourite bloggers! I also enjoy answering them. :) BTW: greasy pizza/subs/burgers are my calling after a marathon too. :D

    1. What did you eat after Boston? I remember eating a sandwich from Starbucks on the way home with a huge iced coffee. Then like 3 hours into the trip we got some sort of value meal from Burger King... yummm!

  5. I want to run/hike the Dipsea Trail! It looks incredible!! I need more vacation time from my employer because there are just so many places I want to go and things I want to do... Also, I would like to play Cranium with you lol. It is my most favorite game and I bet you are really good at it!

    1. Oh no I am HORRIBLE at Cranium!!! I am much better at Taboo and Smart Ass!

    2. Noooooo don't say that! I bet you are really good, especially at the charades part!

      Delete
    3. Okay, I am good at the charades as long as the other people are good at GUESSING charades. ;)

  6. You are too sweet! Thank you so much for nominating me! I can't wait to answer these. I love your answers. You crack me up.

  7. LMAO that Nancy Grace pic gets me every time. You have been SO strong this year. I love that you're talking more about Paul's health and that it gives you a platform to discuss medical marijuana, too. It's such an important aspect of YOUR life and America's future, too.

Thanks for the nom! I can't wait to answer your questions!!

  8. I have never seen the movie of the week but I have seen several documentaries! I have come to the conclusion that Lizzie didn't do it but she knew who did do it. There wasn't a SPOT of blood on her! There is no way in the world she could have killed those two and not had a spot of blood on her.

  9. Oh, thanks, Megan - so sweet of you to nominate me. I will do these soon - they look fun!!!
I don't workout with Chris either - we tried early o but we have very different ideas about working out - he is happy with 30 minutes and minimal sweat or effort. I'm the opposite.

  11. I think you might be the first person I have met/known who does not listen to music while working out. Is there a specific reason? Come to Oregon and do the Silver Falls ½ Marathon! A few of my friends have done it and said it is pretty challenging, but absolutely gorgeous. I would come cheer for you. ;)

Biggest irrational fear… someday going under anesthesia and being able to feel everything that is happening during my surgery, but not being able to do anything about it.

    1. Oh my gosh that is a horrible irrational fear! Good thing it is indeed irrational!

I would love to come to Oregon! The budget is the issue. But someday if I get there, I will run at Silver Falls, even if it is not the actual marathon or half!

As for the no music thing, it is because it gives me like a claustrophobic type feeling and really stresses me out. It sounds ridiculous, especially because I am a music teacher, but describing it as claustrophobic is the closest way I can put it into words.
