Happy Halloween! (Things I'm Afraid of While I'm Running)

Happy Halloween, Friends!

We sort of skipped Halloween this year. No parties, no events... We haven't even watched any scary movies. My biggest Halloween celebration will be this blog post. Exciting, right?

Just because I didn't dress up this year doesn't mean you don't get any Halloween pics! Here are some pics from past Halloweens...

This pic is from the college days.
I went as Madonna like 3 years in a row...

2012- I went as the WINNER of the Boston Marathon!

1983- My brother and I as Native Americans... back when
it wasn't politically incorrect!

1984- An angel... Clearly there is a look of determination in my eyes.
CANDYYYYYY!

And last but not least, to "celebrate" this holiday, here is a list of the things I'm afraid of while I'm running.

1. SNAKES!

I have written about my irrational fear of snakes before. As much as I love running trail, I avoid it in the summer... lest I see a scary serpent. But now that it is getting colder, I can run trail again!

2. MURDERERS/RAPISTS/ABDUCTIONS

Again, I am usually more afraid of this while on the trail. But in reality, I'm probably much more likely to get abducted while I'm running on the road!

3. TWISTY THE CLOWN

This season of American Horror Story is not that scary... except for TWISTY. I mean seriously, have you ever seen a scarier clown?

Part of my neighborhood running route goes past a tree line. The other morning, it was really foggy, and as I was running past the trees, I was suddenly convinced Twisty was going to pop out and hatchet me.
Is there anything that scares you on a run?
Are you dressing up for Halloween this year?

  1. Great costumes! My favourite is the Boston Winner, lol! My most current fear while running are potential "Walkers" from The Walking Dead staggering through the trees to bite me...realistic huh?

    1. That WOULD be scary! I'm about to head out now and I am going a lot earlier than normal so it is going to be dark the entire time.... yikes. :(

  2. Twisty is the scariest clown ever!! I have been watching this season and like it so far, but I do think I've developed an irrational fear of Twisty coming into my life.

    1. Are you caught up with AHS? Did you see why his mouth is all effed up??? It actually made me feel a little bad for him...

  3. If I am running in the dark and there is no one else around (which is rare) I become convinced that I'm about to be killed. It makes me run a little faster which is an okay side effect :)

I had to scroll past the clown super fast without looking. I can't watch scary movies (or TV shows) because they terrify me for months afterwards. After watching the first Saw movie I swore off scary movies for the rest of my life! It's been 10 years now since I've watched anything scary!

    1. Omg I can understand how Saw would do that to you though! It was so gory. I am NOT into gore and sometimes have to hide my eyes at AHS. I prefer the more psychological thrillers or PARANORMAL movies. I do NOT believe in ghosts, but those Paranormal Activity movies scare the living CRAP out of me!!! ps. Paul got me Saw 2 for Christmas one year when we were dating. WTH???

  4. I totally thought that pic of your mom was you until I read the caption. Are you often told you look like your mom? I love running on my trails but am scared to do it alone. I always thing running in town is safer ( when I am by myself). I guess I need to realize that isn't always true! -M

    1. Yes, people do tell us we look alike! Yeah the whole trail vs. road thing... I feel like there are less loons on the trail, but if you DO meet up with a loon on the trail, it maybe be harder to find help. That's why I feel safer on the road, I feel like help would be closer.

  5. Me too!! No Halloween parties, no costumes, no big decoration craziness... primarily because my husband can't do anything and we've been overwhelmed with a lot of other stuff going on. I feel like kind of a party pooper this year. Hopefully I can make up for it next year.

When I am running outside, alone, on a trail in the middle of nowhere, sometimes I will psych myself out that someone is chasing me. We also have Cougars that have been sighted on the outskirts of town, and I'm always afraid that I am going to run into one.

    1. I am sorry you are feeling overwhelmed. Don't feel bad- you gotta do what ya gotta do.

I would be really scared of Cougars too if I thought they could be around. I never saw a bear on a run, but I know people that have. That would be really scary too!

  7. I think I'm more scared of large unchained dogs than snakes. Actually I like snakes and have killed rattle snakes before (I'm from west TX and sometimes it is necessary!!).
The other thing that scares me when I'm running - idiot drivers - plenty around here!!!

    1. I do not like the unchained dogs either. I don't run into them a lot here, but when I run the back roads in my hometown I do!!! The people on the back roads here have the invisible fences so the dogs just charge and then STOP hehe.

  8. THAT CLOWN! Holy. Shit. I hate clowns and that might be the scariest one I've seen yet. I am going to have nightmares just from that picture. I LOVE the Boston costume. So clever! I'm with someone who commented above. I'm terrified of cougars. They are actually the only animal in nature that I am terrified of. My brother took me hiking when I went to visit him and as we were walking he said, "I purposely took you around the sign that says, 'Watch out for cougars.'" I was scared the rest of the time and jumped every time I heard a noise.

    1. In the latest episode of AHS, the clown took off the mask he had around his mouth... what was underneath was even MORE terrifying!

I don't blame you, I would be super afraid of cougars too.

  9. Aw! You were so blonde as a baby! I love that angel costume!

I am scared of being attacked or abducted during a run, but I'm more worried about getting injured. I think it's a lot more likely that I'll get injured then attacked! We do have some pretty scary wildlife in certain areas where I run, but I'm actually not even scared of running into them! Maybe I'm just really naïve.

    1. What kind of wildlife?

Yes, more likely to get injured! I get injured all the time. I never get abducted.
