Thinking Out Loud... THE BEACH.

Thinking-Out-Loud

Thank you to Amanda @ Running With Spoons for this Thinking Out Loud link up!

Paul and I took a mini vay-cay to Rehoboth Beach, DE early this week. Our friends Cheetah and Maggie invited us to join them down there, and since we never get to hang out with all together (we don't live close), we figured it would be super fun to spend some time with them at the beach!

1. We had a fabulous time with our friends! We got to enjoy some lovely dinners with them, chill on the beach, and walk the boardwalk...

Paul, Maggie, Me, and Cheetah

2. Oh, and we got to go to an arcade!

Paul and Cheetah are having the time of their lives.
Maggie is in her happy place.

This is my GAME. I love Deal or No Deal!

3. I determined that I am no longer a huge fan of the actual beach. The sand is gross, the water is freezing, and it seems like everyone ignores the "smoke free beach" signs and just smokes anyway.

4. I did get to work on my tan a bit. And by work on my tan, I mean spraying SPF 50 on me and hoping I get just a teeny bit darker.

I decided I am going to start wearing visors. What do you think?

5. Our trip also included a disc golf/running date. Cape Henlopen State Park has an awesome disc golf course (according to Paul) and lots of trails for me to run.

Paul snapped this when I didn't even know it.
I was on mile 11 of 10 mile run... AKA I got lost.
Apparently Paul knew where I was.

6. On our way home, we popped in an old Mariah Carey CD. Paul was harmonizing the SHIT out of it. He is an awesome singer. I sang along with Mariah and he was just doing his own fancy harmony.

**I also noticed that the song Always Be My Baby
is very stalker-ish. It reminded me of Jodi Arias**

Excerpt:

"You'll always be a part of me
I'm part of you indefinitely
Boy don't you know you can't escape me
Ooh darling 'cause you'll always be my baby
And we'll linger on
Time can't erase a feeling this strong
No way you're never gonna shake me
Ooh darling 'cause you'll always be my baby"

Creepy, right!?

7. Even though I am not a fan of the Rehoboth Beach area for various reasons, I am glad I got to spend some time with my hunny at the shore, as well as hang out with two extremely awesome people!

Mirror selfie before dinner!
Do you like going to the beach?
Which beach is your favorite?
What is your favorite arcade game?

  1. Looks like fun (love Paul's Colorado shirt!!). We had an arcade size video game at our house growing up. Bezerk was the name. I got really good at it although I still prefer Pac Man.

I will be honest, I prefer a pool over the beach. I am a strong swimmer, but I have a fear of the rip tide and also sharks. I would rather swim in a calmer, chlorinated pool (you can see the bottom) and hang out on a lawn chair with a cocktail than go to the beach. And this is probably for the best since going to the beach isn't something I can just easily do :)

Um, nice job on the run! Is your IT band feeling back to 100%
    You inspire for sure!!

    1. I am scared of sharks and rip tide, too! And when I jumped in the water after my run, the ocean floor was covered in shells and pebbles so I had to be careful not to cut myself. I was also convinced there were crabs down there... I have only been to the pool once this summer, that needs to change! That is cool that you had an actual arcade game at your house. Our cousins had pin ball so we were of course jealous. :) IT band has been aching ever since speed work last week! I am pissed! This morning it feels good but it usually starts to hurt as the day goes on. I am very frustrated.

    2. Hang in there, Megan! Achy body makes me very frustrated and cranky too. Is the pain down near your knee or up higher?

      Delete
    3. Definitely close to my knee, and I think my hamstring is involved because doing IT stretches + hamstring stretches = feels good.

    4. I hate my hamstrings....they cause me all kinds of issues but mostly in my hips. My PT told me they were overstretched so not to stretch them. Weird, huh? Keep doing what feels good and fingers crossed things settle down for a nice weekend run!

    5. That is funny I never heard a PT tell someone NOT to stretch something. I feel like it is against everything they stand for haha

    6. There is so much conflicting info about stretching it confuses me. My PT said the hammies are over stretched because of my lumbar spine curve/sway back. I asked him "why do they feel tight" and he said because they are over worked. My glutes are lazy so hammies take on their job. Makes yoga interesting...no forward folds.

  2. I love the beach! But I would be really annoyed if there were people around me smoking. I went to Dewey beach when I was in college, and I don't remember it being anything special...but someone just told me that that area got named #1 beach or something? I usually go to the Jersey shore and go to a private beach where we can move between the pool and beach throughout the day.

    1. Yes, Rehoboth and Dewey are right next to each other (in fact we did Reho one day and Dewey the next) and I think Rehoboth is rated really high as far as East Coast beaches are concerned. Oddly, this was my first time staying there and I was just not impressed! Lots of smoking, crowds of people... oh and all the food was super expensive. $4.25 for a single scoop of ice cream! I decided I am no longer a beach person, but we did really enjoy OC NJ last summer. It is just very clean and not super crowded. That is awesome that you can go to a private beach and switch it up between pool and ocean. Sounds wonderful!

  3. I definitely prefer the river over the beach. In the river, you can see what's underneath you. The ocean is so huge and scary. I definitely respect it. Plus, here, we go to the beach to walk, run, or sit and watch the sun set. No one ever goes for the day with umbrellas and beach towels to play in the water because it's negative temperatures, I'm pretty certain. ;-) It was such an experience for me to go to the beach on the East Coast and see that people literally make weekends out of it. It was probably really nice to get away for awhile!

    1. Yes, East Coast beaches are a HUGE thing around here. People go for the whole week. As a kid, our parents took us every years. Lots of times we would camp near the beach since it was much cheaper. When I was a kid, the beach was magical. I mean, why wouldn't it be? Now that I am getting older, I think I am just getting really picky about what beach I go to. I mean, I have noooooo desire to go to Ocean City Maryland, even though that's where a lot of people go. It's just too crowded, and too many college age drinking kids. We enjoyed OCean City New Jersey last summer. It is much less crowded and since it's a dry town, it only attracts older folks and families. You just got bring your alcohol with you! hehe.

  4. WOW, You'll Always Be My Baby does seem to be a bit stalkerish. I never thought about it before! I really like that song ;) I also really like the song "Your House" by Alanis Morrisette, and a friend of mine recently pointed out that the song is VERY stalkerish. I might have stalker tendencies hidden deep inside me lol

Sand is not gross, take it back!!!!! :D Well, it's gross if you're wet and it's sticking to you. That's why I don't ever go in the ocean. I lay out at the beach and then go home to my pool to cool off, hah!

    1. Oh my word that was the hidden track on one of her CDs, right? I looked up the lyrics and I remember it. Yes, so stalkerish! Adam better never get on your bad side!!! ;)

  5. I'm not a huge fan of the beach either, and it's mostly for the reasons that you listed. That and my body just does NOT do well in the heat, so too much time on the sun has me cranky and breaking out in heat rashes. Newp. I'm a mountains, lakes, and forests kind of girl :)

    1. The heat can def get to me, too! It was very breezy when we were there- more breezy than I remember it ever being. So it was actually too cold to go in the ocean. I love the mountains too :)

  6. I love the beach, although it's not what it was before kids! My favorite might be cape may because I love the town too. I don't go to the beach much anymore since we're not close and it's a hassle with kids but I have only the best memories and feelings about it. I like your visor and your bathing suit! I've been putting off bathing suit shopping and need one for this weekend. My old ones all seem too skimpy this summer :)

    1. We went as kids too and it definitely was a ton of fun then... mini golfing, water parks, and just playing in the ocean allllll day. Dang, now I wish I was a kid again!

    2. ps. I had a hard time finding a bathing suit in which my ass cheeks didn't hang out the side. I think they design them to be super skimpy and I don't know why, I can't relax unless I feel like my parts are covered.

  7. I loooove the beach but I don't love how the sand is impossible to get off of your body/clothing/things. Also, your version of tanning sounds a lot like mine haha fingers always crossed that I don't burn to a crisp.

    1. It is crazy I still somehow get tan! I can't imagine what would happen if I didn't where SPF 50!

  8. Now that we use a giant pop-up canopy, I like the beach more. I really am NOT a fan of all the work it takes to get there and set up, though.

I love that pic of you running through the tall grasses!

    1. A canopy would be awesome! We invested in an umbrella this year because Paul was worried about all the sun. I braved the elements!

When that picture was taken I was soooooo tired and pissed that I wasn't back at my car yet hahaha!

  9. HAHAHAHA, that is stalker-ish! I listen to that song all the time on Songza and I've never actually 'listened' to it I guess. I live nearby some beautiful beaches and I very rarely go there...as in I've not been yet this summer. I don't get in the ocean so I just basically tan there. I love the 'mile 11 of a ten mile run!' You are so clever!

    1. Oh I was so tired and pissed I wasn't back at my car yet! :) I need to find a station that plays all 90s stuff because we had so much fun listening to Mariah and also Boyz II Men and No Doubt. :)

  10. I really want to protect my skin too. I need to get a visor that doesn't squeeze into my head though! I knew I was lost around mile 9. So at least I only ended up running 11 miles instead of 10. It was sooooo hot and I was out of water. But I was in a state park so it's not like anything horrible would have happened. I just wanted to be DONE.

  11. Looks like some great trails! It stinks that you got lost though....glad your hubby knew where you were though! Looks like you had fun mini-vacay!

    1. The funny thing is he didn't even yell over to me, so he took my pic, didn't know I was lost, so didn't say anything haha!

  12. Don't write off the beach until you try the Gulf Coast... I would rarely go into the water at the Jersey Shore or OCMD area... gross... but the Gulf is gorgeous, the sand is beautiful and I actually hang out in the water a good bit...

    1. You are right, I should clarify that I am over the gross East Coast beaches. I am sure I would enjoy the Gulf or.... HAwaiiii!!! :) I have actually never been to Florida!

  13. I can't stand it when people smoke on the beach, it is soo rude and gross! I love going to the beach. I've had to learn to accept the sand and just go with it since I live so close!
