Summer Weekly Workout #5

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Saturday-  REST!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday- Full body strength workout in the gym. We were leaving for the beach later that morning so I wanted to get in some weights while I had access to a gym.

Monday- Extremely hot 5 mile run at Rehoboth Beach. I found a little trail to run on that was semi shaded. I just ran back and forth on that so I didn't have to deal with direct sunlight. My legs felt like lead, and my pace was nearly a minute slower than normal.

Tuesday- 11 miles in Cape Henlopen State Park. It was supposed to be 10 miles but I got lost. I was hot and tired the whole time. Why did I feel so out of shape this week? I took a cold dip in the ocean right after.

Wednesday-

Thursday- Finally, a run I can be proud of! It was actually "cool" out by summer standards today. Maybe I don't perform well in the heat.

Why was my Monday 5 miles a whole minute slower than
my Thursday 10 miles?

Friday-  5 mile run @ 8:01 pace, then lifting: back/biceps/abs (no legs, dumb IT band). I had a picture of my Garmin to share with you (like my other runs) but my camera is all the way in the dining room and I am laying on my comfy couch and I just do not want to get up.

Pros- I lifted 3 times and my Thursday run made me feel like myself again!

Cons- The heat made me feel very out of shape. And ever since my speed work last week, my IT band has been bothering me... that sucks. So I was afraid to do speed this week. Seriously, every run I do lately (except Thurs and Friday) feels like an effort. Maybe I need a whole rest WEEK?

Oh, one more CON...

I know this armpit/lat chaffing doesn't look too bad, but it actually hurts a lot!
It started on Tuesday and has just progressively gotten worse.
I need some body glide, STAT.
Why are my lats suddenly chaffing!?
ps. Excuse my armpit stubble.
Have you ever taken a rest week?
Weirdest place you have chaffed?

  1. Ouch! Across my back and the front of my chest are unusual places I've chaffed.....back was a result of my water belt and chest was from stashing Gels in my sports bra...lol. I take rest weeks when I'm sick or post marathon. I should take them more but I'm stubborn.

    1. Ooh yah my hydration pack will get me every time! On and if ever stick something in my sports bra other than my boobs... chaffe city.

  2. I get chaffing under my arms and can get it across my back where my bra lands It doesn't happen often. I just use speed stick deodorant (not antiperspirant) -- it's this gel like formula that really works for me (and it's cheap).

I take weeks off at a time when we travel. In February I took 9 days off while we went to Panama. I feel the break is really good for my body but they key for me is not coming back too quickly. Which I did and ended up with a hip that was really mad at me for about a month.

I always tell myself "rest is when you make your gains".

    1. That is a great idea to take your rest when you are on vaycay, then you can really relax and enjoy. :) I am totally using your speed stick idea today because I am going for a run and I HAVE that, but I do not have body glide or vaseline. Thanks Susan!

    2. Yes, I get the men's kind that is just deodorant. I smell like an old man but whatever....I do anyway cuz all the ben gay & icy hot I use at night.

Rest on vacation is something I just started these past few years and it works out great. Number one, I don't have to worry about packing workout gear, Rick doesn't have to worry about me running in an unfamiliar place, I get the rest I need and it's not really hard (we both struggle with rest days) because I am focused on other things. Because we are so active, I am still walking around, swimming in pools and sometimes I do push ups and crunches but really I just see it as a good time to let my body heal. There is exception to this. When we stay at an all inclusive in Mexico I sometimes get up (maybe 2 mornings) and do a quick 2 mile run around the resort (which is gated and very safe). I can't help it -- it's gorgeous, I am up and it's sea level so I want to feel that "easy on the lungs" run we don't get living here!!

    3. You know on the other hand, I couldn't imagine going on vacation in CO and NOT running because of the beautiful scenery. So I guess there are two sides to the coin! I don't blame you for wanting to run at sea level. :)

  3. My arm looks exactly like yours. And it HURTS really badly. I just like to think that my lats are so huge that they just have to rub together with my side.... Also, 25 burpees repeated four times!! You are a beast. I avoid burpees at all possible costs. I have some PTSD when it comes to them thanks to a 100 day burpee challenge I completed once.

    1. You know what is funny- my BACK hurt the next day from either the burpees, mtn climbers, or BOTH.

  4. The heat - but mostly the humidity - makes me feel out of shape, too. I try not to worry about pace or anything in the summer. Just completing the workout and being able to breathe makes me proud! haha

    1. I know you have to deal with some horrible humidity. I should take a page from your book and simply adjust my expectations for the run!

  5. OUCH. I imagine that's such a shitty place to chafe because it's an area where something is almost always going to touch it (skin, clothes, etc). I have two SCARS from where the world's worst sports bra chafed me during a long run. They are exactly where Eve's paw tattoos are and always remind me of that lol

  6. LOL I would so rather have chaffing scars than Eve's douchey paw tattoos. That sure is the world's worst sports bra!
