Colorado Adventures!!! (Day 4)

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

This is Day 4 of our Colorado vacation. I talk about Days 1 & 2 here and Day 3 here. Don't worry, there is only one more installment left! I realize you may be sick of hearing about Colorado by now... but soak it in, we won't be going anywhere for awhile!

Onward!

Today was "Return The Over Priced Rental Car Day". Paul's cousin Jen was so extremely kind to not only follow us 40 minutes to the airport rental car place and haul our butts back to Denver, but she also let us borrow her car for the next couple days so we could visit friends in Colorado Springs. That is going beyond counsin-ly duties!

After we had the car situation squared away, we headed down to Conifer, CO. Paul found a disc golf course that was rated one of the top five courses in North America. (You can't forget those three disc golf courses in Canada!!!) I did some trail running while he was on the course and managed to get in 8.25 miles before I was so exhausted that I needed to stop. Conifer is a few thousand feet above Denver!

Some shots of my run and the disc golf course...

I'm sure you can see why the course was rated so highly! Unfortunately, Paul fell off one of the tees and completely tore up his knee, elbow, and hand. Do you think this was karma for buying the Jesus band aids???

Next, we drove down to Colorado Springs to spend the night with friends. The drive down was beautiful. Even though we were on the highway the whole time, we still had continuous views of the gorgeous mountains. This may be a good time to talk about Colorado drivers....

Most of the people on the road were NOT aggressive (not like stupid, hick, Central PA drivers), but they did NOT know how to merge and use turn signals. During our time in Colorado, we were almost in two accidents because of someone changing lanes or merging without using a signal. The first time it happened we had just gotten to Colorado and picked up our rental car. A guy changed lanes with no signal and I had to slam on my breaks. The rental car fishtailed. I beeped my horn and the DRIVER FLICKED ME OFF! WHAT THE HELL???? YOU ALMOST CAUSED US BOTH TO WRECK AND YOU FLICK ME OFF!? HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE????? The second time was on the way to Colorado Springs. A stupid little 22 year old merged right into me on the highway. I had to swerve into the left lane and luckily no one was there. Oh, and the speed limit was 75. For the rest of the trip, whenever someone was merging onto the highway, I immediately got the hell out of their way because there was no telling what they were going to do...

Okay, driving rant OVER.

We made it to Kim and Jeremy's house in Colorado Springs alive and they welcomed us with open arms. I met Kim through my running club back home. Her husband is in the military so they have moved a lot over the past several years. I keep up with her on Facebook and when she found out we were coming to Colorado, she immediately invited us to their place. It was awesome to see Kim again, and I finally got to meet her husband and daughter... even though I already felt like I knew them through Facebook!

First we went to Garden of the Gods. The rocks were so beautiful that they didn't even look real. I felt like I was on a movie set and the scenery was just painted back drops.

Me and Kim

Then we piled back in the car and headed to the quirky little town of Manitou Springs.

Kim likes to take selfies... or "carsies" ???

Here are some pics of the town....

A sign at a bar...

First, we got some pizza for dinner. I had mac and cheese pizza and it changed my life. There was grease dripping right off of it. Seriously, it was soooooo good!

There was a penny arcade with lots of vintage games and rides. It felt like Knoebels Grove.

Paul the Cat Whisperer up against Mr. Military!

We did not put a quarter in.

I paid a nickel to see an old time-y "adult" film. Do you want to know what I saw?
Of course you do!
So the lady is giggling and starts taking off her clothes, but she had so many slips and undergarments on that even once her dress was off, she still had more clothes on than I do on a normal day. The "doctor" with a creepy smile was watching the whole time and then walked over and pretended to tickle her with a feather duster. Then the movie ended.
FILTH, I TELL YOU!!!!

Look at that follow through.
Spoiler: This picture was posed.

When we were out of quarters, we headed back to Kim and Jeremy's place to play a few rousing hours of Cards Against Humanity before we called it a night. (I won, of course!)

Sing it. You know you want to.

What are the drivers like in your state? PA drivers like to RIDE. YOUR. ASS. People in pick up trucks also try to show you how tough they are by plowing past you whether it's a passing zone or not.
Have you ever played disc golf?
Have you had mac and cheese pizza? Does that even sound good to you?

    2. Just about 40 minutes north...in Loveland. Northern Colorado is pretty and Fort Collins is a fun college town, but Boulder is the best and I love the Pearl Street Mall!

  2. Mac and cheese PIZZA?! Why is there no picture of this?! The drivers in my hometown are famous for not being able to merge. It also only rains about six weeks per year, so when the roads are wet, people lose all sense haha!

    1. I ate it too fast! It was so good. I told the owners it is good I live in a completely different state. I am terrified of driving in the rain! I was once in an accident caused by rain and an 80 yr old driver (his fault) so now whenever it rains I am so scared. But I stay to the right.

  3. I like mac and cheese and pizza, but I don't know if I could do mac and cheese *on* my pizza. Then again I always eat the toppings off my pizza before I eat the slice anyway so it would probably work for me :D

    The doctor's office film... hilarious!!!!

  5. CO has always been on my bucket list. It's really close to California, so I should just get in the car and go one of these days. I love the pictures. And the dirty film! How filthy! ;-)

    1. Yes you should go, you would love it! Northern Cali is so pretty too. (And I just learned that no one from Cali calls it Cali!!!)

  6. Those of us who are Colorado natives claim that all the crappy drivers moved here from California. :) I'm glad you had a good time in spite of some highway scares!

  7. I remember driving on big highways in PA in college and I think you're spot on. NJ is not better and NY is terrible. I love all your pictures. Mac and cheese pizza sounds really good but it might just put me in a coma :)

  8. How do you still manage to have gorgeous pics of that trip?! :D You are so funny! LOL. I can just imagine how many slips, etc. she was wearing. I've never tried mac and cheese pizza....I love both so I'm guessing it would be the best of both worlds???

  9. I love that sign at the bar, so funny! Mac & Cheese pizza sounds glorious. It's basically my two favorite foods put together so what could go wrong?!

  10. It must be a north east thing. PA drivers are very aggressive as well. Every time I'm on the turnpike, I am dismayed that there aren't more accidents!
