Life really sucks sometimes.

My husband and I recently got some really crappy news. We’ve had some time to digest and process it and tell our family. Now, it’s time to tell our friends and blog land.

Unfortunately, my husband needs to have another brain surgery this June at Johns Hopkins Hospital. If you are a close friend or family member and would like some more details, please feel free to email or message me and I will catch you up. I'd prefer to give the short version of the story on my blog since it's not really my story to tell, it's my husband's. So the short story is just that he's having surgery again in the middle of June.

I'm really sad he has to go through all this again- having just gone through it this past September. This whole situation is crappy, but if there is something to be thankful for, it's that he is in the expert hands of Johns Hopkins Hospital and a surgeon who we think is the most skilled in the world. I am also thankful I have summers off and I will be able to take care of him without losing a paycheck. Not everyone has this luxury, so in that aspect, the timing worked out.

The timing didn't work out for one thing though- Hawaii. We're not going this summer. Paul will be recovering for several weeks after the surgery so we simply cannot go at our scheduled time. We've been dreaming of Hawaii, planning and saving since October. We are so sad we can't go.

Instead, we must focus our energy on the next challenge ahead. And while I am not one to wallow and focus on the negative, sometimes it is hard not to. I will get past this and have a more positive outlook for sure. But right now, I am feeling really sucky.

Life just sucks sometimes.

  4. Meg, I'm so sorry! My prayers go out to both you and Paul. May he have a quick recovery! And in regards to Hawaii - it totally sucks that you can't go THIS summer, but at least you can keep saving in the meantime so you can make your trip that much MORE special when the two of you are 100% healthy and able to go! :-)

  5. Praying for Paul and for you! I'm so sorry about Hawaii, I know how much you were looking forward to it. :( But Hopkins is the best, so Paul is in the most capable hands. (And I live 50 minutes from Baltimore so don't hesitate to ask if you need anything.) :)

  6. I am so sorry to hear that Paul has to have another surgery. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way and hoping for a speedy recovery. It sounds like he will have the best doctors at the hospital, the best nurse at home to take care of him this summer, and two little nurse's aids that I'm sure will provide lots of snuggles.
