2 Running FIRSTS!!!

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I have been a serious runner for 8 years now and just yesterday, I had two running FIRSTS- and they both happened within 5 minutes of each other!

The first one is a bit embarrassing, but you know what? It is probably going to happen to all of us on a run someday (if it hasn't already) so save your judgement, people!

I peed my pants on my run.

Yes, I am serious.

Let me tell you the story. Yesterday, I was on a BEAUTIFUL 12 mile run (which I will re-cap tomorrow) and all my normal bathroom spots were overgrown with lots and lots of grass and weeds. There was no way I was going to walk through knee high grass for fear of snakes.

Instead of going at my one of my normal spots, I waited until I was on an even more secluded road. I didn't go behind a tree because everything was overgrown, but the road got almost zero traffic, so I thought I was safe. I should also mention I can pee without pulling my shorts down- just squat, move the crotch of the shorts to the side, and I'm good to go!

So while I was peeing, I kept looking both ways to make sure a car wasn't coming. Well, a car was coming! I stopped peeing and immediately stood up and started running again so whoever was in the car wouldn't know what I had been doing. Except I couldn't stop peeing. I tried to stop but I just kept peeing!!!

It was only weird for a minute. I was already soaking wet from sweat because it was so hot out. You can't get wetter than wet so it was fine.

Save your judgement. It will happen to you someday and you will remember my story and not feel so alone.

That was the first running "first" for me. The second running first happened less than 5 minutes later. I had turned onto a more busy road in my freshly peed pants and a car pulled over on the side of the road. I could tell as I approached, the person in the car was going to ask me for directions because he rolled down the window.

I wasn't scared to stop and talk to himm- there were lots of houses around and some fishermen right behind me at a creek. I just didn't want to stop. I was trying to increase my pace as my run went on and stopping was going to mess up my mo jo!

"Excuse me!" the person in the car shouted.

I just ran right on by without even making eye contact. I had on sunglasses and my headphones, but I was still so obviously ignoring the person in the car. But I had goals!

That was my second "first" of my running career- blatantly ignoring someone asking for directions. I may have been a bitch but I averaged and 8:14 pace for my 12 mile run so guess what- I DON'T REALLY CARE!
Have you ever peed your pants on a run?
Do you like giving directions on a run?

  1. I haven't totally peed my pants (shorts) but it's leaked out. When I ran only on a treadmill, it happened a lot. Now that I have had to "break up" with my treadmill (it was injuring me) and am back outside, I haven't had that problem. But no judgement. It's a body and stuff happens, right?!?

Also, why would someone ask a runner directions? I never understand when someone tries to talk to someone that is working out. I personally think it is rude. I have had people try to talk to me when I am swimming my laps. Really people!? I ignore them, too (goggles on + ear plugs and swim cap are my excuses). I don't blame you one bit!

    1. Whew, I am not alone! I would be really annoyed if someone interrupted me while swimming. It is rude to interrupt a workout... it would be like if someone tried to talk to you mid bench press hehe. That being said, if I was just out for a leisurely run, I wouldn't mind stopping to give directions. But I had an AGENDA.

  2. so, i peed myself in a marathon once! it was the weirdest thing EVER. i actually didn't know that i had to pee! i kept passing port-a-johns because i didn't think i had to go. then all of a sudden i was peeing myself and couldn't stop. it was during my first sub-4 marathon and i just squirted my water on me and kept running. you are not along sister :)

  3. I've got to say - I love this post! :)
I haven't and dread the day I do wee myself on a run. Its something that goes through my mind when I decide to run down the duel carriage way. There's farmers fields but what about nettles?!

    1. Haha as long as it's hot out I'm sure you won't even notice! I told my husband and he laughed, but said that if I ever crap my pants to NEVER tell him!

  4. Hahaha your posts always make me laugh! I did pee myself once on a run. It was actually my first half marathon and was pouring rain out and there was a huge line for the porter potties. I couldn't hold it (the rain wasn't helping) and ended up going a little bit in my shorts. But because it was pouring so hard, I realized that nobody probably noticed. And if I had peed myself I would have ignored someone asking for directions, too!

  5. OMG haha! I have never peed on myself while running, actually I don't think I've ever had to pee while running. I always have to go #2 though which is the most annoying thing ever. If I had a genie I would ask him to make it so that I never have to go to the bathroom during a run!! It would be such a useful wish!

I have had two people ask me for directions while running - so annoying. One time I was stopped at a light anyway, so whatever... but the other time I was DYING at the end of a long run and my brain wasn't working so I'm pretty sure I gave them bad directions. Oh well!

    1. I am impressed that you never have to pee while you run! I always have to but it's usually because I drink so much coffee. And then with it being so hot out and hydrating that makes me go too. I'm a teacher, so you would think my bladder is huge, but I am lucky enough to have a bathroom RIGHT next to my classroom so I am spoiled in that sense. :)

  6. Same here! I was soaking wet w/ sweat... who cares if there was a little pee?? Hehehe. I am so impressed I am not the only person this happened to! I guess people just don't talk about it. :)

  7. It's so hard to just stop peeing once you start. No judgement from me! I have the worst bladder on the planet. I'm glad your 12 miler went well!!!

  8. We runners do not judge people who have to pee!! Lately on all my runs outside of my town I have had to stop and go...I've also been running with boys. I just stop off the trail and go! They have been so funny! They are amazed at how fast I go....well yeah, I want to continue running! :)

  9. I have never peed my pants on a normal run (although I have been close), but I have at least twice during races

  10. I totally peed my pants once....and it was crossing the finish line of my very first ten k race! LOL. No one knew though because it was pouring rain and I was already soaked and wearing black shorts. ;) I started vomiting and I believe that's what brought on the unforseen accident.
