Weekend Wrap Up!

This is what my mom emailed me this morning.

How did she know this is EXACTLY how my Monday morning started!?

I did not know if we would actually have school today... we were supposed to get a HUGE storm. But it looks like the MD and DC area ended up getting the brunt of it... so luckily, we only had a two hour delay. I'm not gonna lie, it was nice getting up at 7am rather than 5am!

Here is what I was up to this weekend!

It was a pretty typical Friday for me. I went to Planet Fitness before work and lifted back and biceps. Then I warmed up my legs on the arc trainer and completed a 10 minute run. I felt pretty good! I do get nervous the whole time I run, though. There is no pain, but it certainly doesn't feel "normal". I just kept hoping the pain would stay away and I'd hit the 10 minute mark and feel successful. I did. Whew!

After work, Paul and I did our normal Friday night activities- grocery shopping. We got massive amounts of food so I could do some cooking incase we were snowed in on Monday.

One of the things we stocked up on was TRAIL MIX!!! Remember that big barrel of rye chips I had?? Well they're finally GONE. What a relief. We filled the bucket to the brim with trail mix.

It took us around a month to get through the rye chips.
How long do you think it will take us to go through the trail mix?

Friday night we caught up on the HBO show True Detective. I know everyone is raving about this show but the more I watch it, the more I hate it. Would you like to know why? Of course you do!

REASONS I HATE....

1. Matthew McConaughey is just disgusting to me.
I really want him to stand up straight.
I can't believe he doesn't have major back issues from his weird posture.
He reminds me of a lizard.

2. I can't understand a single work the lead characters say.
My husband picks up more than I do, so he has to explain everything to me.
But seriously, Matt and Woody mumble as if they have  20 cotton balls in their mouths.
The choir teacher in me wishes they would work on their DICTION.

3. The leads- Matt and Woody- smack their lips, grunt,
and make disgusting sounds with their mouths.
Not just when they're eating... but it is REALLY disgusting when they're eating.

I went on the IMDB message boards to air my two major beefs with the show (not understanding the dialogue and the disgusting mouth noises). As always on message boards, I got some VERY snarky replies...

For instance, MWallace77 says, "It's odd meggy, that you can't catch the words but can hear all the grunts and groans. Sounds like a specific kind of hearing problem."

Whatever.

I felt quite productive on Saturday because I cleaned the whole house. It needed it.

Then I went to the gym and had an epic run. 18 minutes!!! By the end I was up to a 7:47 pace at a 4.0% incline. It felt amazing. I was drenched with sweat and didn't want to stop. I am taking off all cardio for the next 3 days! I fee like I need to step away from the treadmill or I will do something I will regret.

I went to my mom and dad's house for a family dinner. All of my grandparents came and so did my brother and his family. We talked and laughed all afternoon. Oh, and I learned about the time my Pappy cut his leg with his chainsaw and my Grandma had to drive him to the ER... but she stopped at a yard sale along the way! My grandma was laughing so hard she had tears running down her face as my pappy told the story. "He said I could stop!" she exclaimed, defending herself. Oh my word!!

I didn't get many good pictures but here is one of my niece, Ellie.
She loves to be the center of attention and always wears the COOLEST pants.

Saturday night, we watched the season premiere of Survivor: Beauty, Brains, Brawn. I love it so far and I think it's going to be a really good season. Most of the cast is hilarious. Especially Tony, who constructed a "Spy Shack". As defined by Mike Francesca, a spy shack is...

"An Innovation Created by Survivor Tony Vlachos That Consists of Tropical Palm Leaves, NYPD Training, & Hilarious Earnestness That Only Jeff Probst Could Inspire."

CBS
(That's Tony)

I woke early on Sunday and thought I'd get to the gym before it got crowded. Nope. It was PACKED. Luckily I was able to do everything I needed to get done. Here was my workout for the day:

This Sunday re-cap is going to be shot. I'm going to be honest, I was sort of blah and depressed on Sunday. I don't know why. You know what made it better? Drinking scotch and playing games with my hubby. We played Monopoly Deal, You Don't Know Jack, Rummy, and War. Remember the card game War? Oh my gosh, I bet I haven't played that in 20 years!!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Did you get any great workouts in?
Do you watch Survivor or any other reality shows?
Am I the only one who thinks Matthew McConaughey is disgusting?

  1. HA your forums response on imdb. I just don't even sometimes with the internet. I belong to a particular message board where that kind of snark is sooo prevalent that someone decided to start another (secret) message board to snark about all the snarkiness... which is of course the mature, adult way to deal with things. (It's entertaining, though!) And I also hate when people make those smack noises when eating. Yuck.

    1. Lol I knew I was going to get blasted on the message board! Some people agreed that it was hard to understand their dialogue but no one agreed on the smacking with me. That's like my HUGEST pet peeve!

  2. HAH! That response on IMDB.... makes absolutely no sense!

I'm not a Matthew McConaughey fan either. I watched some of the Oscars last night and his thank you speech was interesting to say the least. He talked about how he is his own hero... but that he'll never *actually* ever attain the status of being his own hero. Mmmk, that's a totally normal thing to say.

  3. Sadly the only reality show we watch is the Bachelor ( for pure entertainment and laughs) and House Hunters! I'm still experiencing much knee pain so no workouts for me. Lacey got a great 12.75 mile run in though. I was also looking forward to all that snow today! Too bad!

    1. Me too! At least we had a delay. I'm sorry your knee is giving you trouble. Do you know what's going on with it?

  4. Haha...the cast of Survivor this season is great! Tony kind of looks like the love child of The Rock and Vin Diesel.

And yes, we are definitely getting the snow here right now! It is coming down in buckets.

    1. What a great description of Tony! I don't think he's going to make it too far but I like him and can't wait to see what he does with his Spy Shack. :)

  5. It's so annoying how after an injury, you're like SUPER attuned to your running, looking for ANY tiny bit of discomfort. I definitely know that hyper-vigilance.

I haven't seen True Detective but all my friends are obsessed. After watching the Oscars, I'm thinking I'll at least how to stomach MC in "Dallas Buyer's Club".

    1. It's funny, when I was reading my FB posts this morning, everyone was RAVING about MC. I think I am the only one who doesn't like him!

  6. Oddly, the incline helped the pounding. I think all cats sing that tune haha!

  7. Not a fan of MM but I DO love that cat picture. It's pretty much my cantankerous kitty, George.

  8. Argh, you had a two-hour delay??? I am so glad that the weather wasn't half as bad as they were predicting, we left to come back home today and were afraid we'd get stuck down there an extra day. Now that I'm home though, I wish I could go back. It's way colder up here in Massachusetts!

  9. A Sunday afternoon spent playing board games sounds perfect to me!

It would take me about 5 days to get through that trail mix haha!
