I'm trying to decide what to do about my blog...

Here we go... my nearly twice monthly post lamenting on what to do about this little blog of mine. I feel like I have nothing to share anymore. I feel like I am struggling for content. I mean, there is always a lot going on in my life, but a lot of it is not for the blog!

After 2071 posts without skipping a day, is it time to call it quits?

I'm such an all or nothing type of person. I normal person would just be like, "Okay, I'll blog 3-4 days a week instead of 7 days a week." And honestly, I think that is the best solution. A schedule something like this...

Monday- Weekend Wrap Up
Wednesday- Free topic
Friday- Weekly Wrap Up
Saturday- Weekly Workouts

There would be less content, but it could possibly be more quality content.

The other option is to change the blog into more of something I write daily on the fly. Like talking about my day or whatever is on my mind. I know a lot of bloggers do that and people like reading it. I don't know what you guys like reading. And I'm not tech savvy enough to figure it out!

One of the coolest things about having a daily blog for so long is that I have a REALLY FREAKING GOOD record of my life for the past 6 years. I mean, I can go back and read posts about events or thoughts I had that I would never remember if it wasn't for my blog. It's a really cool thing to have. I should probably back it up, shouldn't I? (Did I mention I'm not tech savvy!!??) Maybe my brother can help me... Hey Tyler, call me!!!

Oh well, this was a very "thinking out loud" post but I feel like my frustration with posting daily has been going on for so long that it's time to make a decision...

1. Continue posting daily.
2. Stop the blog completely.
3. Post 3-4 days per week.

I promise I will stop going back and forth on this soon and make a decision...
Do you have opinions on what I should do?

  1. I love reading more of your personal touches of every day life. It's more interesting then just posting what you did for a work out. I like the idea of write whatever is on your mind and share snippets of real life between how you stay fit with running and working out.

    1. I love reading blogs about every day life too. I think I am nosy. Thanks for your input!

  2. I can't speak for everyone, but I'm going to guess that most readers do like your "on the fly" what your doing type , whats on your mind type of posts. You are good at them and that's what most of your posts end up being anyway (besides your weekly wraps which I love by the way).

I can attest that once you start taking time off from blogging, it is harder to get back into the groove. Look at us, we went from 3-4 days a week to Just doing our Friday posts (and MAYBE one other). Whatever you decide, we will be here to read it!

    1. Ah thanks for those insights, girl! On the fly posts are super easy to write, I just didn't know if that was phoning it in. But you said I'm good at them, so thanks, you made my day!!

  3. I like on the fly daily posts but I know the grind of posting daily can be tough. You could try taking some time off and see how you feel. When I stopped blogging for a couple months I didn’t miss it AT ALL at first but then my passion for it came back. It’s hard to decide what to do in the middle of the grind because we are addicted to the routine!

    2. I looove them, I think that's why I like daily vloggers too, because I get to see and hear what they're up to. I'm very nosy lol!

  4. I'm a fan of both - I get inspired by seeing other people's workout routines and race recaps, but I'm also "nosy" and love to see what people do on a daily basis "the random stuff". I struggle getting my posts done. I have a ton of stuff I think of, and I do type up a lot, but I get bogged down putting pictures in the post. BUT, the pictures are the things I like seeing the most in other people's blogs, and in my own blog! It's just time consuming. I keep trying to put out 3 posts a week. I feel like no one would read a daily post by me. This week I'll be doing 3. Mark that on your calendar. haha!!

    1. Girl I would read a daily post! I like pics too, they do require planning and time though! I need to do better with pics if I am going to do these on the fly posts...

  5. I used to post 3-4 times a week, and now I'm down to 1 or 2. I am trying to spend less time in front of the computer, and blogging and Facebook are my biggest screen time black holes .... I think as long as you have something to say -- about anything -- people will enjoy reading it.

    1. It is so time consuming. I'm not on Facebook a lot, but blogging does take time and MENTAL energy. I think I just haven't had the mental energy and that's a big factor.

  6. You know I am totally for the "3-4 times per week" blogging schedule. You could also pick up some "feature posts" for the month that you repeat every month to keep it more structured.

I personally struggle keeping up with a blog that posts every day (that's why you see my batch commenting sometimes)... so, if you feel burned out, cutting back on the times you blog to invest in a bit more "meat" in the content is a good approach, IMHO.

Whatever you do, don't stop blogging ;)

  7. I like on the fly posts too :) But you can also do a combo if you want to keep up with the daily posts for your own schedule. Have the scheduled 3-4 posts per week that have a specific purpose (weekly wrap, etc.) and then fill in the week with whatevers on your mind at the time.
