Working out back in the day...

When I was leaving the gym on Tuesday morning, a girl was walking in holding a couple magazines. It made me totally remember how when I used to work out, I would get on the elliptical for an hour and read magazines! I subscribed to a lot of magazines so I usually had a bunch to read. My favorites were People, Cosmo, Redbook, Shape, and Maxim. Yes, I used to read Maxim! It was good! I totally forgot about the days I would read magazines on the elliptical...

That memory made me think about some other funny or outdated things I did when I worked out back in the day. In college, I would do Tae Bo VHS tapes in my dorm room. Before MP3 players and phones, I had a no skip Discman. I would carry it (that bulky thing!) and listen to CDs while running. For my very first marathon, I wore a cotton zip up jacket... in the rain.

Oh, before I knew how to lift weights, I would go to the YMCA and time myself on the weight machines! I would do chest press for 2 minutes, then bicep curls for 2 minutes... I had no idea at all what I was doing! I didn't even know what muscle groups each machine worked.
Tell me some funny anecdotes about how you worked out "back in the day".

  1. Well, I don't know if it was actually "working out" and I kind of can't believe I am admitting this but when I was in junior high I used to just play music in my room and make up stupid dance routines! I would put on workout clothes and just pretend like I was a professional dancer or something. It certainly got my heart rate up and I LOVED it so in my mind that is a total win/win of a good workout.

    2. LOL--that is so funny! I mean, I wasn't trying to work out either but OMG, I feel like I need to do this now. Just put on music and dance, right? My heart would be pounding but the time would fly by! I am glad I am not the only dork out there making up dance routines!

  2. I never had a discman, but I remember my walkman! yikes. I used to go to the gym with Alan when we were first married and I remember wearing those thong thingies over biker shorts. Hilarious! I totally should have kept a few of them for some good Halloween costumes today. No, I didn't own any sweatbands!!
