Weekend Wrap Up!

I needed this weekend! I used it to catch up on...

1. Paul
2. Friends
3. Sleep
4. Running

Today is going to be nuts. But I can do it. Maybe I'll tell you about my nutty day tomorrow...

But for now, here's what was going on with my weekend!

Today was going to be a DAY, but I was mentally prepared! It started with two deck of cards workouts in my carport. I needed to get my game face on!

The morning was spent on a field trip with 103 4th graders and 5 other teachers. We traveled to Harrisburg to see Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet perform George Ballanchine's The Nutcracker. We go on this trip every year and I just love it.

The only part I don't love is the bus ride!

Me and my friend Lauren! She's a 4th grade teacher at our school.

My favorite parts of the ballet are: The dancing soldier Uncle Drosselmeir brings to the party, the snowflake dancers, the Reed Pipes, Waltz of the Flowers, Mother Ginger's children, and the dance the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier do near the end of the show.

The dancers were so good, and they were young this year! It was the best performance by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier that I have seen at CPYB in my 14 years going to see the show!

The rest of my afternoon was tough. I did not have a lunch or plan. I taught a double kindergarten class, 1st grade, a double 2nd grade class, and a double 3rd grade class. The reason? They didn't get me a sub in the morning and I didn't want to leave teachers hanging with no plan period on a Friday in December! I don't always do this special favor for teachers. For one, my schedule doesn't always allow for it, Second, I don't always have the mental energy to do it. The teachers were appreciative, my principal was appreciative, and I am getting paid for missing my plan and lunch, so it is all good.

That evening, we went to Geoff and Bree's house for game night. As I predicted, we didn't play any games! We just drank wine and beer and talked the whole night! It was awesome to reconnect with our friends!

We had fun messing around with their Alexa. We may get one! I'm reading an article about it now to see if it's something we would actually use.

I made a big purchase this morning... a 5x magnifying mirror so I can pluck all the hairs off my face. Seeing yourself in a 5x magnifying mirror is terrifying. I look much better in a normal mirror with dim lighting!

Paul and I hit the gym. (Good news: I ran 5 pain free miles on the treadmill!) Then I went to Karn's for meat and discovered Paul's favorite cereal was on sale! I loaded up and thus won the Wife of the Year Award.

That evening, we met our friends Maren & Max and Randy & Michael for a little friends Christmas gathering at Wyndridge Farm. Paul and I arrived early and enjoyed a drink before our friends got there. He got an IPA and I had a sangria flight!

The restaurant was beautiful, though a little pricier than we usually spend on a meal. However, I could totally see us going back because the food and the drink was divine. I really enjoyed their cider!

Of course we had a great time catching up with our friends! Maren and Randy are my oldest friends I keep in touch with regularly. I'm actually going to write a post this week about how we all met. I could get into it here, but it deserves it's own post!

I slept until 8am! Yayayayay trazadone! I can't tell you how happy I am that I went to my doctor for a sleep prescription! I wasted a lot of time on the internet in the morning. Jelly was right by my side the whole time...

Finally, I got my ass to the gym and ran 5 miles on the treadmill. I ended up doing speed work- just kept bumping it up faster and faster until I was running 7 minute miles. Who am I!?

Bree and I had a late lunch date for sushi. Bree twice in one weekend? How did I get so lucky!?

After our lunch date, I went to Super Shoes to check out their snow boots. I have been looking for snow boots for shoveling. I have not had proper waterproof snow boots since I was a teenager! But then I was seeing all the CUTE and STYLISH boots, so I wanted a pair of those. But I told myself that I don't have money to just willy nilly throw around on a pair of functional boots and a pair of stylish boots. I was going to have to find a pair that covers both...

Finally, I found that pair. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but I think they are stylish and also SUPER FUNCTIONAL as they are thermal and waterproof. They are also not super trendy looking so hopefully they will be in style for many years to come!

 Jelly liked the big box...

So did Chrissy! Finally, a box he can fit into!
Who is your oldest friend you keep in touch with?
Have you ever seen a live production of The Nutcracker?
Do you have Alexa?
Are you snow boots cute, functional, or both!?

  2. I saw a whole segment on the Alexa on QVC the other day (Yes, I am that person who watches QVC...haha) and it seems practical enough yet fun since you can play games with it. We have a Google home which seems to be very similar.
That restaurant you went to looks very nice. I love the huge tree!

I havent had actual snow boots in a long time but I wear my Wellies when I shovel since they are waterproof. But I also wear them other places when the weather is wet. I wore them this weekend when I went to the inner harbor since it rained all day.

    1. I think it is similar. I didn't read the article yet but I will find out about it! Wellies are cute, I want some of those too for rainy days!

  3. My snow boots are cute (I think) and functional. We spend a lot of time in the snow on ski trips so I needed something good. They are actually super toasty and make my feet sweat on the airplane!! They are also unisex because last year I had to loan them to my son. He grew out of his boots and didn't have any. He really liked them too, but luckily he kept growing and I have them back again ;)

  4. A flight of Sangria sounds Divine!! how was it ?

We have an Alexa, but we keep her unplugged. She got really creepy a few times, so we decided it was best for her to be unplugged. One day, out of nowhere she said "Ok, I have flights for Chicago for you". We also think that it heard us talk about being engaged, because out of nowhere we got a ton of wedding sample invitations, and wedding catalogs, stuff that we have never once researched on line.

  5. Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend full of holidays stuff... I've seen a performance of the Nutcracker once at the Community Theater and it was so much fun.

The oldest friend I keep up with is from Kindergarten. We've known each other for almost 40 years! <3
