I'm sure the kiddos are excited and nervous. But I'll tell you a secret... The teachers are excited and nervous too!
Normally, I'm unable to sleep the night before the first day, but adrenaline gets me through.
Today, I will be doing the standard "first day of school" spiel in my room... That means a hello song, a movement activity, and of course lots of going over rules, expectations, procedures. I will be very bored after doing that seven times today. But I better suck it up because then I get to do it nineteen more times over the next three days!
I am very excited for the school year. I have a lot of NEW ideas for my classroom. This is the most excited I've been in a long time to go back to school.
The first couple weeks of school are tiring because it's very important to be VIGILANT. I'm very strict with rules, procedures, and classroom management. But believe me, it PAYS OFF, because soon, I will have a seamlessly running classroom. All the hard work I put in at the beginning of the school year will be worth it in the long run.
I'm looking forward to my FOURTEENTH year of teaching!!! There are going to be some big changes this year, but I'll get into that at a later date.

Our schools went back on Monday and traffic has become a nightmare again for my husband and other commuters. But the pics of the kids were super cute, and I know they are glad to be back (well, most of them). I hope you have a great first day and first few days since you have to sing the welcome song so many times!

Happy first day back! I hope everything goes smoothly! I knew you were going to mention being vigilant because I have been reading here for a few starts to the school year now hahaha! I think all of my first day back memories were good, I was always excited to see my friends everyday again. The only time I had a bad experience was when I moved and had to change schools at 15. That's a tough age to have to start over but I survived since I met B that day, and here we are 17 years later still best friends!

DeleteHappy First Day of School! I am sure it can be tiring but teachers are one the the most valuable professions in our society! I feel so strongly about education and even though Rick and I don't have kids in school, we make donations to my old elementary school each year :) I have it as a goal sometime to get into the class (or after school program) to volunteer! Trying to find some time in my life to do this!
