Weekend Wrap Up!

Happy Monday!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Here's what we were up to...

Since I woke up in the middle of the night for like three hours, I slept in until 10am! Ah, summer break!

Paul headed out to go tubing in a creek with his family, so I plopped on the couch to catch up on the news and blog with Jelly.

Then I went for a SCORCHING hot run. It was so hot that I had to take an air conditioning break during it! A/C breaks are one of my strategies for running in extreme heat.

That afternoon, Paul and I went out to run a couple errands, including stopping in to see Debby and the kiddos.

Then we headed to Buddy Boy Winery to do a small tasting (5 for FREE!). We bought two bottles because we love Buddy Boy!

We had dinner reservations at the Waterfront in Marysville for a late Mother's Day/Father's Day meal with my parents. I love hanging out with them! We talked and laughed.

That night, we watched BIG BROTHER!!! Yes, IT HAS BEGUN!

Julie Chen is so beautiful.

I also made my sign for the Keep Families Together rally tomorrow. I'm not very artistic so black marker on white poster board was all I was able to come up with.

I got outside by 9am for my run. It was already VERY hot. The real feel got up to 102 today!

Then I headed to Harrisburg to participate in the Families Belong Together Rally. We started at the Sunken Garden. There were some speakers, then we walked to the governor's mansion about a mile away. There were chants, but I couldn't chant. Every time I tried to chant, I started to cry. I cried because I never thought I would be out marching to keep FUCKING CHILDREN WITH THEIR PARENTS.

I read an article on CNN where a NINE MONTH OLD was separated from their parents and transported to NYC. IT'S IN-FUCKING-SANE. Not sorry for the profanity. I'm out of words, and I have nothing nice left to say.

This was a  non violent, focused demonstration. A ton of cars passed us on Front Street and honked their support. There was only one hateful person who shouted "Fucking idiots!" at us. Oh well. If standing up for humanity makes me a fucking idiot, I will wear that title proudly.

Fun Fact: We were supposed to rally at the capitol, but a group that supports Trump's family separation organized a counter protest, so we started at the Sunken Garden instead. There were hundreds of people at our rally and there were less than 12 at the counter protest.

I was soaking wet because it was so hot. So I went home and cleaned myself up before going to visit my Pappy. We chatted for awhile, then I headed home to just chill out. Literally. It was a HOT DAY!
I slept foreeeeeeeeever! When I got up, I did two deck of cards workouts before it got too hot.

Then I went by myself to the movies to see Hereditary. The trailer looked good and Toni Colette was in it (I like her!) so I figured I'd try it. I really enjoyed the movie and it was scary. But the ending... I just didn't understand it! I'm too dumb to go to movies these days. I always have to go home and ask Google what the movie I just saw was about!

Funny story: When there was only about 10 minutes left in the movie (and it was getting REALLY WEIRD, including naked Devil worshipers in a tree house), an elderly couple came into the theater.

"I can't see a freaking thing," the old lady said.

"I think you're at the wrong movie," someone whispered politely. There were only 6 people in our theater so it was quite obvious this couple was either two hours late for the movie or accidentally went into the wrong theater.

They found a spot to sit and the lady started clearing her throat. I thought about how lucky I was that she wasn't in the movie the whole time or I would have had to leave!

A character in the movie said something like, "We worship you, oh king of hell."

The old woman goes, "Hell!?" Then a couple seconds later, "Okay, let's get a different movie on the screen."

IT WAS HILARIOUS. It didn't ruin the end of the movie for me, it just made me chuckle. Old people do whatever the hell they want.

After the movie, I ended up going to the gym to lift. I tried to get Paul to come but he had too much to do at home.

That evening, we went to the Dickinson Quad to see the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra perform their free July 4th concert. This is a yearly tradition Paul and I have. The HSO sounds so good that you think it's a recording! They always play music by American composers for this concert. This year, we heard some John Williams, Henry Mancini, Leonard Bernstein, and others.

 It was HOOOOOOOOT.

 It gets so crowded!

A throater clearer sat next to us. Luckily, no one got hurt.

Do you have a funny old person story?
What's the last movie you watched that you didn't understand?

Did you ever go to a rally or demonstration?

  1. I took an a/c break during my run on Saturday too. It had stormed out all morning and then it was overcast. The forecast said it would be overcast all afternoon/evening so I decided I could go for a run mid-afternoon. I mean why wait when the weather wasn't going to change right... wrong. By 2 miles in the sun was out full blast and I was DYING. Around 3 miles I knew I needed water so I ran back to my house for water and a little a/c. I only gave myself 90 seconds inside because I knew if I stayed longer I wouldn't want to go back out haha. In hind sight guzzling all that cold water and then going back out into 97 degree weather for more running wasn't the best idea. I felt it sloshing around in my stomach for the next mile until finally my stomach settled down! Do you give yourself a time limit?

    1. No I just played it by ear. Had some seltzer and messed around on my computer a little until I could feel by body cool down. I *really* felt like running since I had only run 4 miles since my race. If I didn't have a strong desire to run, I could have easily lifted inside that day. I just wanted to run. :) So I knew I would go back outside for like another 15 minutes or so.

  2. Fun weekend...it must be said to you and all your readers who run in that hot/humid weather -- I HAVE MAD RESPECT! I realize how spoiled I truly am to enjoy the summer temps that I do! I am so thankful you and the others demonstrated peacefully. What an absolute nightmare this is. I feel like everything that I see happening in our government is only setting us back and there is SO much collateral damage! That is a funny story about the old couple. Rick and I saw Black Swan in the theater and sat next to 2 older women. OMG, their comments (which I think they think they are whispering but they are totally not) were so funny.

  3. Sounds like a great weekend. I'm sure that rally was quite emotional for a lot of people. I never even heard of that movie you went to! The last movie we saw didn't make much sense to me - A Wrinkle In Time. I thought it was pretty bad. I was expecting a lot more out of it!!

  4. OMG "I am too dumb to go to the movies" had me laughing out loud. I actually don't really enjoy going to the movies, I'd rather watch one in the comfort of my own home.

    Love your cat tanks!

    1. Thanks girl! Paul has so many cat shirts. I'm scared of getting shot at the movies. :( That's the only reason I don't like it.

  5. Thank you for protesting this awful new policy! I had planned to go to the protest, but didn't make it back to HBG that day. And counter protesters scare me! I blows me away that some people have no humanity left, and will not distinguish between basic human rights and cruelty for the sake of "laws".

We missed the concert this year, We had to go visit my parents, but we are going to the Hershey Symphony concert tonight, We are taking a picnic and all.

  6. Great weekend. I am glad you got to hang out with your parents (I miss hanging out with mine!) and good for you for joining the march on Saturday. I must admit, I kinda blanked on it until the last minute and had a long run planned in the AM, so I ended up sending off another donation to the ACLU that day to make up for my lack of participating in person.

    1. Hey, money helps and money talks. If we all do what we can on a given day, it will make a difference.
