I messed up my shoulder.

Guys, I'm getting old.

I messed up my shoulder sleeping.

SLEEPING!

This situation reminds me of the time Paul hurt his back sneezing. The doctor told him lots of people hurt their backs sneezing, and from what I have read online, a lot of people mess up their shoulders from sleeping!

Friday night is when it happened. I woke up Saturday and my left shoulder felt jacked up. It didn't feel great on Sunday either and on Monday it actually felt the worst! (Don't worry, I didn't lift at all every since my shoulder started hurting and I don't plan on lifting until it feels 100% for several days. I'M NOT MESSING WITH THIS.)

I think the reason it continued to feel worse is because I didn't sleep on my back, I slept on my right side. But what I have noticed is that it actually hurts my left shoulder when I sleep on my right side too. So now I will be a back sleeper until everything sorts itself out.

I've been taking it easy by not lifting my arm up and being careful with things like washing my hair and putting on a seat belt. I may look into a special pillow for sleeping, but first I am going to research and try to prop my neck up with my normal pillows (that will alleviate pressure on my shoulders) for now.
Have you ever hurt something from sleeping wrong?

  1. Yes, I have hurt both my neck and my shoulder from sleeping wrong, or at least I would guess that would be the cause. I ended up putting a heating pad on it.

Hope your shoulder gets back to normal soon!

    1. I remember when your shoulder was jacked! Did it hurt to turn your head to the side? It hurts to turn my head. I forgot to mention that.

  2. I have hurt my neck, shoulder and back from sleeping in the past... but all only after I turned 30. I also got heart burn for the first time after turning 30. Shit really hits the fan when you cross that mark, hah.

Is it feeling any better today? If not I hope soon!!!

    1. I guess so! Nothing crazy started happening to me at 30... I think it was more like 33/34, and now that I'm nearly 36, I guess I have to get used to this stuff! Normally I do a cartwheel when all my 3rd graders remember their recorders, but this week I am going to have to owe them cartwheels because I don't want to put pressure on my shoulder. Or maybe this is a good time to start working on a one handed cartwheel.. Hmmm...

  4. I've done that frequently. I'm a side sleeper, and I'll wake up with knots in my right shoulder. My chiro has done Graston on my shoulder, and it's not comfortable. She has to dig deep with those knots too.

    1. Ooh I never had Graston on my shoulder. All my ailments are usually below the waist.

  5. Who knew sleeping was such a dangerous activity!!

We have terrible pillows right now, and some mornings my ears hurt from sleeping on them.

  6. Aw that stinks, Karen. :( I think a firm pillow is what will help me, but who knows. It is feeling a lot better today.
