A slow start to the year.

Guys, I was PUMPED to come back to school in 2018. I was losing my mind before winter break, but the time off allowed me to get recharged.

I needed to recharge my...

... patience
... organization
... creativty
... body
... voice
... empathy

However, this year did NOT start as expected. In fact, I quickly fell behind at work for several reasons.

The first reason I fell behind was because I didn't have lesson plans prepared for January. I mean, they were sort of in my head, but they weren't fleshed out at all.

The second reason I fell behind was because I got very sick and even had to stay home for two days.

When I came back to work, I was still tired and lacked motivation. Plus, we had a lot of early dismissals and two hour delays due to the weather. My whole schedule was thrown off.

This wasn't really the fresh, lively start I was envisioning!

Luckily, after two very productive days at work this week, I can tell you I am all caught up with everything at work! Lesson plans are done, materials are gathered, copies are made, and playlists are synced up on my phone.

Yesterday morning, I even ran in my hood before work. I haven't run outside before work since before Christmas! It felt SO GOOD to be back in routine. I know some people can't believe I run the same routes day after day, but I really crave routine. It makes me feel in control.

So that's the update around here in Meg Go Run world. I'm hoping to be healthy and back in a routine so these cold winter months go well!

How is your January going so far?

  1. I always find the first few days back at work after a long break are weird. Not everyone is back but there's still stuff that has to happen. Glad you're back on track!

    1. That would definitely be weird to come back and not have everyone there.

  2. Yesterday morning when I walked out to my car I thought "what a beautiful day it is, I wish I could have time to run before going to work"! Really, I said that to myself!! I Never say stuff like that...lol. Glad you are getting back into your routine! We are gearing up for a new semester here so I am a little stressed (and to make matters worse our copy machine always has problems).

    1. Freaking copy machines!!! We had a printing issue at the beginning of the year. They took all of our printers out of our rooms and put community printers around the school. Well, they didn't WORK. Can you imagine having to be able to start the school year without anything printed out? I mean lesson plans, seating charts, class lists... We were all so frustrated.

Hey maybe you should get up a little earlier and run in the morning!?

  3. I hear you on this! I should know better than to plan a great start to the year but the two weeks of January are my busiest weeks at work, and there are always hours of overtime dealing with the craziest of things that by the time I get home, I’m exhausted and the rest of the house is just in survival mode. But it’s all about getting back on track once you can! Go you!

    1. I hope you can get back on track soon! What kind of work do you do that it is super busy in Jan?

  4. Everyone needs some time to recharge around the holidays especially teachers! All the weather craziness does not help does it? Glad you got out for a run and you are feeling back at it

    1. Thanks Deborah! Yes the weather sure doesn't help. I mean, I am thankful that our school district cares about our safety and doesn't make us drive in bad weather, but it is hard to get back into a routine where that happens a couple days a week. Oh well, no more delays this week- it's going to be super warm!

  5. It's tough getting back into the regular routine after the holidays. I'm still dragging, and trying to get my sleep back on track.

  6. I felt the same way about the start of this year - I was expecting a big burst of freshness and productivity but it was just kinda "meh". Felt like just another week, honestly. I try to look on the bright side and think, well at least this means I'll get used to it and maybe the usual February let-down (when the high of new year wears off plus everyone is getting cabin fever and feeling blah) won't be so bad this year!

    1. Winter sure can get long, can't it? My least favorite months of the year are Jan-March.

  7. I definitely had a slow start to the year as well with being sick and low motivation (somehow), but I am hoping to turn this around soon.
