Packing for NorCal

I LOVE TO PACK!

I hate to fly... but I love to pack.

Packing is like a puzzle, especially when you're going to be gone for 6 days and can only take 1 carry on bag and 1 personal item! (We're too cheap to pay for checked baggage.)

Packing for this trip is going to be especially difficult because I am going to have to bring my hydration pack (I need it for my race) and my rogue ball so I can do some rolling. Those items right there are going to take up a lot of room!

This is how I pack for a trip:

Step #1: Go through our itinerary, day by day, and make a list of everything I need to take.

Step #2: Get out my carry on suitcase and then panic when I see how small it is.

Step #3: Go through my packing list again and see if there is any way at all I could weed out items.

Step #4: Start trying to shove everything into the suitcase.

Step #5: Get Paul's help. (He loaded trucks for UPS for years so he's good at packing and making things fit!)

Guess how many pairs of sunglasses I am taking!
Five!!!!

Note: While I am in CA, I have a bunch of blogs scheduled to post but we have so much going on that I may not be able to comment back right away. I know I will start to feel disconnected from you all, but I will reconnect with you when I'm back. Thanks for understanding!

Do you carry on or check bags?

Do you like to pack?

  1. OMG I am literally in shock that both you and Paul can fit your stuff for a 6 day vacation into 1 carryon and your personal items. Literally in shock. Adam and I are both over packers. When we went on our staycation for 2 nights to a hotel 1 mile from the house we brought 2 full size suitcases, 2 small bags and 1 bag of Cecil's stuff! :D To be fair, when we were loading all of our stuff into the Uber Adam said, "this is ridiculous we overpacked" so at least we are aware! hahaha

I don't know how you do it! I think you should film a vlog showing how you fit everything in when you're re-packing to come home!

    1. I am in shock you needed all that for two nights!!!!! It helps gym shorts and tank tops don't take up a lot of room. :) if I have the energy I will write out what I brought when I unpack so you know how I did it. ;)

  2. Packing for a flight stresses me out because I know I am limited and there are restrictions. I made once for oversized luggage but my goal is to not do that again!
If it were me I would have totaly wore that hydration vest on the plane. I've gone as far as draping running shoes over the handles of my carry on and know ones ever said anything. I'm very creative when I pack. I wear a lot of things though but I take them off when I get on the plane..lol

  3. That should say I once "paid" for oversized luggage, not "made".

  4. I hate to pack! We used to carry one (one for each) but now it's cheaper to check so we check one bigger one and share. We have gotten great at not overpacking--especially Rick. I sometimes have a hard time not taking too many shoes but I am working on it!!

    1. Shoes take up so much room!!! For this trip, I wore my road shoes, put my trail shoes in my backpack, then sandals and flip flops were FLAT in my suitcase.
