Our First CA Trip

Paul and I consider ourselves lucky/thankful/grateful, (whatever you want to call it) that we have been able to go on some wonderful vacations over the past several years.

Our first BIG vacation was 5 years ago. We spent 5 days in San Francisco and 3 days in the Big Sur/Monterey area.

This trip had a lot of firsts for us.

The first time we flew across the country...

The first time we had an oceanfront hotel room...

The first time we rented a car...

The first time we saw the Pacific Ocean.

We did so many cool things...

We took a tour of Alcatraz.

We went to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39.

We rode our bikes across the Golden Gate Bridge and into Sausalito.

We took a dinner cruise in the bay.

We went to Stinson Beach and Muir Woods.

We drove down Route 1 to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.

We visited Big Sur.

We went to Monterey's Canary Row.

We went to the Monterey Aquarium.

We really packed so much in!

It was fun taking a trip back memory lane and look at these pics!
When was your first trip across the country?
The first time your rented a car?
First beach front hotel room?

  1. This looks like such a fun trip - it really makes me want to go back to California. I've only been a few times for work (to cool places like SF, San Diego, LA, Santa Monica) but I've never been for fun!

I think my first trip across the country that I can remember was to San Diego for a work conference! Either that or it was when Adam and I went to Seattle. Or maybe it was when we went to Vegas. I can't remember which came first - all of that was around the same time period! Plus I have a horrible memory!

Your pics on FB make it look like you're having a great time. I hope everything went smoothly with your flight and you were able to relax a little!

    1. You sure het around. What did you think of Portland when you went? We want to go to Seattle and it would make sense to hit up Oregon too. This won't be for a couple years.

  2. Wow, you guys really packed a lot in. Will you be doing any of the same things on your next trip?

My first trip across THIS country was to Seattle, Washington. I guess technically it was to CA cuz my parents took me to Disneyland when I was just a toddler but I don't remember that so it doesn't count, right?
I then went to CA again in 2015 but didn't really visit any place off Disney property. I'd love to go back and just explore California. That's such a long flight though, so we will see.

    1. We will be doing Stinson Beach again and eating at one of the same restaurants as last time. We will also go to Sausalito. Other than that, all New!

It is a long flight but if you can get direct it won't be so bad. Also, on Delta they had a ton of free movies to choose from!

Do you like Disney World or Disneyland better?

  4. What a fun trip! We did San Francisco one year and loved it! I guess our first trip across country together would have been back to Oregon (and probably our first car rental). All the other firsts probably happened when I was a kid--my parents were big on travel and we did a ton.

  5. Oh wow!! What a great trip! I was trying to plan a romantic anniversary trip (it's our 25th!!) for Alan and I in Sept. I wanted to go to Napa Valley, and San Francisco. However, I'm finding it nearly impossible to depend on someone to stay with my kids, so I think that's a bust. Boo.
Hope you have a great trip back there again!!

    1. What a bummer! I wish you could find childcare! Too bad i didn't live closer, I would watch them in exchange for lounging at your pool as long as your son chexjedaroubdcdor snakes first. :)

  6. Our first trip across the country was last year and we went to Seattle. We haven't actually rented a car yet together, although I had a rental a few years ago for a work trip. Our first actual vacation together was a cruise back in 2009 and it was so much fun- we weren't even engaged then and it was my first cruise, and I fell in love with cruising and even more in love with Clay. Love going on vacation each year and it's something we always budget money toward and value.

  8. I went to Monterey as a kid, and I love it. Walking in the ocean, seeing the sea otters and sea lions. California is special since a lot of family vacation were out there. It was easy to drive from Tucson.
