New Case Obsession: The murder of Missy Bevers

I found a fascinating case to research! It's not a new case as it happened a little over a year ago, but this is the first time I'm really diving into researching it.

Unfortunately, it seems as if the case has stalled!

Missy Bevers was a wife, mother of three daughters, and worked as a fitness instructor in a fairly small town in Texas. She was very active on Facebook advertising her fitness classes. She taught a morning Camp Gladiator class outside Creekside Church in Midlothian, Texas.

The night before her murder, Missy informed her students via a Facebook post that she was moving the Camp Gladiator class to inside the church due to the fact that it was going to rain.

There is a lot to set up for these Gladiator classes because Missy arrived at the church around 4:15am. (Cameras inside the church verified this.) Her body was found when her students arrived for class around 5:00am. Missy was bludgeoned to death in the head and chest with a hammer like instrument that was sharp. It is just so horrible that this happened to her.

Now, here is the creepy part... There is VIDEO FOOTAGE of the perpetrator inside of the church before Missy got there. In the video, you see the perp walking around, swinging the weapon, opening up doors, etc. The suspect is just sauntering around like they have no care in world....

It is impossible to tell who the suspect is because they are wearing what looks like SWAT gear, including a helmet. You can't even tell if they perp is male or female.

Investigators estimated the the suspect is between 5'7 and 5'10 tall. You can tell from the video that the perp is probably a little overweight. Another thing that is creepy is the very unique posture and gait the suspect has. When walking, their toes point outward, and it's kind of like their left leg is a little weaker than their right.

One thing I am wondering is if the camera footage filmed the actual murder of Missy. While the police have released some footage of the perp, I have not been able to see any footage of Missy. Obviously they can't release the video of her murder, but it may be too disturbing to even see video of her entering the church, unaware of what was about to happen.

It's crazy to me that police have not arrested anyone in this murder, yet! It is quite obvious this was not a random killing. Someone knew Missy would be there inside (due to rain) that morning. They knew there was not a silent alarm at the church but that there were cameras, so they needed to wear a costume to hide their identity. They didn't steal anything, but they killed Missy very violently. This was a personal attack. THIS WAS DONE BY SOMEONE MISSY KNEW. I am quite sure of that.

Obviously the first suspect is always the husband. Whether it's a happy marriage or not, women are normally killed by their husbands/boyfriends or exes. There is evidence that Missy was having at least two affairs. She and her husband were also having financial troubles. So there was stress in their marriage. However, the husband was in Mississippi and that has been investigated and confirmed by police. It is not her husband in the video.

The father-in-law is the next suspect. He has an interesting gait that appears similar to the person in the video. But to my mind, the walks are different as the FIL drags his right foot and the part drags their left foot. Not only that, but it has been proven the FIL was in California the day of the murder. It is not the FIL in the video. But could it be someone trying to impersonate the FIL? Who the heck knows.

There is one red herring, but I feel like I have to mention it. A couple days after the murder, Missy's FIL took a bloody XXL woman's shirt to the dry cleaner. He said it was blood from his dog who got into a fight. The blood was tested and it was indeed dog blood. I think the FIL is a weirdo. Wouldn't you throw that shirt out? I know if I had a shirt covered in my cat's blood, I would throw it away!

So husband and FIL are out of town. Could the person in the video be a WOMAN? Maybe it is the wife of one of the men Missy had an affair with? I am sure police are investigating everyone. If it's a woman, that is BEYOND CREEPY.

Another piece of evidence... A few days before her murder, Missy showed a friend a LinkedIn message from a male unknown to both of them. The friend told this info to the police and she told the police that she and Missy both thought the message was "creepy". Could this be related to the murder?

And one last piece of evidence that has recently emerged... There is a sporting goods store just down the road from the church. Apparently, a couple hours before the murder, a car pulled into the parking lot and drove around slowly. They turned the headlights on and off. Is this where the person changed into the SWAT gear? The sporting goods store released the video footage of the car, but unfortunately there is no way to see the licence plate number. Police don't think the car is related to the murder... but is it?

My hunch is... the husband and the father-in-law hired someone to kill Missy. I think it is TOO CONVENIENT that they were BOTH out of town on the day this happened.

Even though no one has been arrested yet, I do think they will eventually find the monster that murdered Missy.

What do you think happened to Missy?
Did I miss anything important?

  1. I'd like to know if this church is open 24/7 or if you need a key to get inside? If the perp was already in the church before Missy got there, how did he/she get in?
Yes, I think it's very convenient that both the husband and FIL were gone. I would check their travel records just to see how often they go out of town. If it is often for work then I guess it could e just a coincidence. If this was like a one time thing and it just happened to be the day of the murder, we'll then I guess there is more to be looked into with those too. I wonder what their phone records show? That's usually an indicator if they were communicating with anyone else that may have had a part in the murder.

    1. You pose VERY good questions. The perp broke a window in the back of the church to get in, that way Missy wouldn't see the broken window, presumably. I do not know if the husband and FIL traveled often- very good thinking! I just think it makes sense that it has to be someone who knew her or was PAID by someone who knew her.... Because the perp has SUCH a unique gait that don't you think if it was a friend, family member, or someone in the town, that there would be a ton of people who notice the weird walking gait!? I know if I knew someone with that gait I'd be able to tell just off the video! I am sure they looked at phone records but I don't have any information on that. I really freaking hope they catch this person. I think that they will.

    2. Someone considered Missy a threat. Either love-wise or business-wise. I think its a woman. And I think she is wearing extra big shoes to disguise her footprint...afterall the rest of her is totally disguised. I think walking with these extra long shoes is throwing off her gait so she can't walk normally. She swings her foot around, sometimes sorta drags her foot like the boots are too heavy. Feet are way too big for her height. She stands like a woman. Her shoulders are built up so maybe she works out and does weights. She is not skinny. Who could feel that threatened to kill her? Someone who has been hurt.

  2. MEGAN! You're getting me interested in this stuff now! I'm so curious!!! I'd never watch any of the video footage though. My brain is sooooo sensitive. I'd end up having anxiety issues or something.

    1. Yeah, don't watch it! Even though the perp walking around is not violent at all, it is SO CREEPY the way they just meander... When I think about it before I go to bed at night, I get scared that the person is walking around my house like that.

  3. Oh, this one just creeps me out. Maybe because it's such a new case? Creepy. And so sad.

  4. Oh wow! yes, I agree! this was done by somebody who knew her! how else would they know she was inside the church! How crazy!!

How about her lovers? Were they questioned?

    1. I'm sure the lovers were questioned but I don't think those people's names are out there, which I can understand because people want their privacy. I am dying to know what people in the small town thinks. It seems like with most small town murder mysteries, there are people who know what happen, or they at least have a VERY good hunch...

    2. Yes, I like Nancy, she's awesome! Will check out The Brain Scratch - I watched the comparison of the FIL and suspect - their gaits are extremely similar. seems to me he did it!

    3. Buuuuut... they are dragging different legs. And the FIL was DEFINITELY in another state at the time. But he could have paid someone! OR maybe someone was impersonating FIL?

  6. Another interesting fact, the husband bought a boat 3.5 weeks after the murder. Not exactly something a grieving husband would do. Image: https://scontent-dft4-3.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/18697967_456815501352158_7967558214286961053_n.jpg?oh=ca474a3953361051090dbf94375d9976&oe=59E03546

  7. Very interesting and sad that the perp has yet to be caught! It does seems awfully fishy that the husband and FIL were far away at the time of the murder, and that the husband went out and bought a boat not long after! Keep us posted.

    1. I didn't realize he bought a boat! Was he planning on buying a boat to begin with?

  8. Actually the husband was in Mississippi and father in law in Cali. I knew her. It's sad And I agree. Very creepy. 1 mile from my house. I hope this murder is solved soon °

  9. I've been following this case, too. I find it hard to believe that the police have NO suspects. Come on. She received a "creepy" LinkedIn message....like that can't be traced? It's odd that the killer was prepared enough given that Missy informed her students only the night before that she would be holding class inside instead of outside due to the rain forecast. I hope Missy and her family get justice soon.

    1. You know I have since wondered if they do have a suspect, just not enough evidence to arrest. The police have been pretty quiet, and someone mentioned that if police needed help finding leads, they'd be talking and asking for the community's help. I bet they are keeping things very close to the vest and are waiting for the suspect to screw up.

Or maybe I am just being too optimistic!

  10. Hey there. I appreciate your take on this horrible case. And I like your blog! I love to hike and participate in Camp Gladiator workouts.
Myself and several local North Texas folks have been waiting and praying for almost two years now, for this case to arrive at arrest(s),indictments, and justice.
There has been a lot of online activity regarding this murder; fake twitter accounts and social media harassment, as well as another infamous blog that libels friends, family, law enforcement, and sleuths in general of the late MB. You can find information regarding this in the Dallas Observer publication.
MB and her widower didn't have a son, just three daughters. One of the daughters just raised money at auction to continue the fight for justice for her Mom, even after the Dad made a public statement claiming he was done answering questions regarding the tragedy.
I believe it was a hired out hit, involving a family with different age ranges and roles being played. Lots of Red Herrings and lots of brazen attempts to never be discovered while masquerading as someone else.
I would like to state that there is no such thing as the perfect murder, and the Great State of Texas is going to hold these disgusting individuals accountable all in due course.

    1. Thank you, I will correct my error. I mentioned she had three daughters in the beginning of the blog and then mentioned a son later.

And thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! I agree with you, I think Missy's killer will be caught and brought to justice. I'm just curious, if you are willing to share (without stating names), do people in the area think they know who committed the crime?

  11. This was planned and if what they say is true about her two different affairs that is the KEY !!
The police have to know this and that would make the husband or the people involved in the affairs the prime suspects.
The husband was out of town and the father in law that is kind of a strange coensidence.
    They will solve this

  12. i'm shocked that the church had camera's but no alarm system. plus in that type of building at that time of the morning you'd think she would have heard noise before the killer got to her
