Friday 5!

Hey all! I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday 5 2.0!

Today, I'll be talking about 5 things I've been up to this summer! This is sort of long... but it's mostly pictures!

Okay, so what have Paul and I been up to...

1. Little Buffalo State Park for hiking & swimming. I live near some awesome state parks. For some reason, we rarely go to Little Buffalo. It is about 45 minutes away, so it does require some time. On Thursday, we did some hiking and then hit up the swimming pool. The pool is only $6 and kids 42" or under are free!

I forgot flip flops.

Look at that SWEET water slide!!!

So the pool is HUGE, it's the kind that is a slope, so you can walk out as deep as you want (good for kids), there are two water slides and a HUGE splash pad! There's also lots of grass and even shade if you don't want to roast int the sun.

2. Free concerts at Springettsbury Township Park. We live about 30 minutes from York, but it is worth the drive to attend the free concerts at Springettsbury Township Park! They're nearly every Wednesday and Sunday night this summer! We had so much fun bopping to The Uptown Band last week!

Fun Fact: Besides children, we were the youngest people in the crowd.

That lady in the neon green went hard ALL NIGHT LONG.

And Rocky Ridge Park is just 5 minutes away with tons of trails. We did a short hike before the concert! We will definitely be back as there was more we needed to explore.

3. Making martinis with my new martini shaker. How did I go 34 years without a martini shaker? My friend Shawn sent me this in the mail! It was a GREAT SURPRISE! Now my martinis are so cold right from the get go and I don't have to put them in the freezer!

4. Life Expressions Decor Make & Take Board Party. My friend Katrina hosted the party and my friend Paula was the Life Expressions Consultant who took us through the step by step process of making our boards.

They say you don't have to be "artsy" or "creative" to make something beautiful and have fun at these parties. Though you can tell some of my friends are artsy and creative, so their boards are cooler than mine!

I'm hanging mine in my classroom!

One of the best things about this party was hanging out with my work friends, who I should really simply call my friends. I LOVE the people I work with. I truly do. They are wonderful, kind, funny people!

5. Spanish class at Frederickson Library. So far I have been to two classes and I really enjoy it. I kind of joined late since I had to wait until summer (when I can actually go to class at 10am on a Thursday!), but luckily I have been studying on my phone since January so I fit right in.

Rant: I was about two minutes late for the first class, so I was stuck sitting behind the teacher in the corner against the wall where I couldn't even see the other students (about 10-12).

So for the second class I showed up 10 minutes early so I could get a good seat with the rest of the students. Well, right when the class was about to start, a woman came in with her kid, who looked to be about 7-8 years old. She sat right beside me (only empty seat) and held the girl on her lap.

A freaking 2nd-3rd grader on her LAP.

Well, that annoyed me. But what annoyed me even more was when the teacher put a seat in the CORNER and asked ME to sit in it so the kid could sit by her mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????

I got there early.

I was taking the class.

The kid spent the whole class drawing pictures.

The kid was definitely old enough to sit in the corner and draw while her mom took the class.

Why did I have to sit in the corner!? I showed up early!!!!

I got kicked out of my fucking seat for a 7 yr old.

Yes, I am complaining about a FREE class at the library. :)

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What have you been up to this summer?

Did you ever go to a Board Party?

Local Peeps: What am I missing!?

What is your favorite cocktail?

Am I overreacting about my seat in Spanish class? (BWAHAHAHAHA!)

  1. Looks like you are having a fun and busy summer already! That would annoy me to be asked to move my seat. I like to get places early so I can sit somewhere I feel comfortable. Especially being in the corner, you have every right to be annoyed!

    1. Haha thank you. I just wanted to make it clear that I realize I am getting high horsey about 1. a kid and 2. a free class hehe. But yeah, the whole getting there early thing bothered me. Especially cause I was in the corner BEHIND the teacher so I felt like I was on display... awkward...

  2. My favorite cocktails are boozy hot chocolates, but it's not the best time of year for that so I'll settle for a mimosa.

So crazy about being asked to move seats in the library class for the kid. I don't know why the kid would want to stay in there on the mom's lap and not go into the library and read?

The parks near you and the pool look so nice and reasonably priced! I want to go down a water slide...

    1. Paul and I went down the water slide. :) We're like freaking little kids!

I am not sure if the kid was old enough to read in my library alone. It is a HUGE library. She probably was. Or just chill in the corner and draw instead of me having to be in the corner.

I don't like the chocolate alcoholic drinks or the hot ones. Like I would never order something like a mudslide or an irish coffee or anything like that. Mimosas are GREAT though!

  3. Man, that pool looks like so much fun. I wish we had cool stuff like that near us! We have an outdoor pool but it's SOOOO dodgy. If I was that kid's mom, I never would have let my son take your seat.

    1. That stinks that your pool is dodgy! We have a lot of nice ones in the area. The one closest to our house is pretty expensive for just a daily rate- $12 per person! But this state park it was only $6. Obviously what they do is try to urge to people buy a season pass, which are way more cost efficient but Paul and I don't go enough for it to be worth it. There is another pool around here that has $5 Fridays so I think we will hit that up next week.

  4. OMG you have every right to be irate about the seat at the Library!

I've never heard of the board party. I usually don't do parties like that but that looked fun and you get something useful, unlike a painting of something I would never hang in my home. I'd like to learn more about it. Did you have stencils? Did you have to come up with your own sayings? Did u have to pay for the supplies?

OK, why are you sitting so far away from the swimming pool at LBSP?

    1. Hahahaha because Paul wanted to sit in some shade so we had to sit near a tree!

We did not come up with our own sayings, they consultant brought the boards, the paint, the hooks (for the back) the vinyls (the sayings) and all other supplies. We paid $20 to make and take our board. So the sayings are called vinyls, which are basically like stickers. Some people left the stickers on (me) some painted, put on the stickers, then painted over top, then peeled off the stickers! I like the look better and will do it next time.

  5. You are having had a very busy awesome weekend !!

How rude that they made you move for the child ! My son is 8 and I would never put somebody else on the corner for him to seat! That's obnoxious !

    1. I think the teacher was just trying to be accommodating. I blame the mom!

  6. Haha, I would complain about the free class too if that happened to me!!! So obnoxious.

But other than that your summer looks awesome!! I have some FOMO over here!

    1. Oh you shouldn't FOMO. For every picture of fun, I could post 20 pictures of me laying on the couch. :)

  7. That board party looks fun (art geek here). My favorite cocktail is just a simple margarita ;-)

    1. Ooh margs are good! I am not good at art but I like mine. I have some good ideas for next time though... copied from others!

  8. That is definitely annoying to be put behind the teacher. Even though you may not have missed seeing anything important, I feel like being able to make eye contact with the teacher helps foster a connection. I like to see the people I'm speaking with/learning from!

If the room was small and the group of people was small, like I imagine would be at a library class, I see no reason why the child of 7-8 couldn't sit within eyesight of the mom. I mean if it was a 2 year old that's different but an 8 year old should be able to handle it. I would have had trouble concentrating the rest of the class because I would have been upset.

Also, why couldn't the teacher ask for someone to volunteer instead of picking you out. Or she could have put another chair BEHIND her and then the late mom and kid could have sat together back there.

    So many other options.

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal but it's definitely still annoying.

The concert looks so fun! I live on the border of a park and they have free concerts every Fri night. We haven't gone yet because Adam goes to his MMA class on Fridays after work, but I can hear the music as if it's inside our house from 7-10pm which is kind of nice!

    1. I know, sooooo many other options! I'm glad you are all enraged with me. :)

That's so cool you can hear the music! You should take Cecil over in his stroller some evening while you wait for daddy to come home!
