Things I want to do this summer!

I am fortunate enough to have 10 weeks off in the summer. Obviously there are more good things about this work schedule than bad. Is there anything bad about it? Well, the only thing I can think of is that I have a habit of putting things off until summer... even though there is no reason to put things off! And it's not just unpleasing things like cleaning, organizing, etc. It's fun things... like reading, going to Zumba, doing day trips, etc.

Since I tend to put things off until summer, that means there are A LOT of things I want to do this summer! I'm sure we'll do some of them but other times we'll have something on the schedule and just not do it. We're homebodies.

Anyway, here's a list of a bunch of things I want to do this summer! You'll notice some of the items are from my PA Bucket List!

  • Language Immersion classes at The Frederickson Library (to help me practice speaking Spanish!)
  • Attend Cumberland County Democratic meetings and meetups
  • Go to the Mutter Museum in Philly
  • Go to the Red Rabbit for my first time!
  • Kayak down the Yellow Breeches creek (anyone have kayaks we could borrow!?)
  • Visit some new state parks
  • Ride our bikes to Mt. Gretna on the Conewago Trail
  • Try the mountain bike trails at Swatara State Park
  • Visit Long Trout Winery
  • Hang out during the day with my SIL!
  • Go out for happy hour once a week and try new places we have never been to
  • Go see a live taping of the Stephen Colbert (we already have tickets!)
  • Day trip to DC w/ Paul (planned!)
  • Day trip to DC alone to go to the Holocaust Museum (planned!)
  • Go to local carnivals and festivals
  • Take advantage of free music in the parks

PA peeps... What am I missing!?
Happy Hour suggestions?
State Park must dos?
Have you ever been to any of these places?
What do you want to do this summer?

  1. What a fun list! Did you post a picture of yourself at the end of a race once and you were running past a kayak rental sign (??). LOL. Rick and I have only kayak together once--in Mexico is was one of the pool "olympic" games they played. Out of 10 couples we came in 5th. I know I was our weak link! Would still love to try it again.

  2. I am looking for a quick trip to do with my grandma this summer so I am open for suggestions as well.

On a sidenote, I was flipping through one of those local touristy magazines a few years back and came upon this amazing lookout on a hill and it had this statue (it was a religious lady, maybe Mary???). I guess people have wedding ceremonies there. Would you have any clue where that was or what it was called? I know it was in central Pa.
What exactly is MT Gretna? I did click on the link but is it a summer camp?

    1. Hmmm... have you been to Jim Thorpe? They have a train that could be fun! I do not know what lookout you are talking about... I will have to google it! Mt. Gretna is a town but with a beach/lake, trails, and just a cute little downtown area.

  3. That's so cool that you're going to see Colbert! I know you and Paul are avid watchers of the show. Did you know he plays a recurring guest starring role on Mindy? He plays a priest, haha!

    1. Yes I did know that because when Mindy was a guest on his show, he showed a clip from when he was on her's. :) We freaking love Colby, now just trying to decide whether to drive to NYC or take the train...

  4. That's a fun list of things to do! We are making our summer list this week too. Unfortunately I still haven't planned our 25th wedding anniversary trip, which should happen in late July! #fail Vacation planning is stressful!

    1. Thanks Amy! Yes there's lots of cool local things to do that are free or barely cost anything except the gas to drive there.

  6. I haven't done much during the summer in quite a while. Mostly I'm looking forward to nicer weather and not wanting to melt at 7am.

  7. So cool! I love how excited and motivated you are to cross things off your list. My to-do list this summer involves a lot of prep for baby! I need to stock up our cupboards and storage with cat food, non perishable food, toilet paper, diapers, etc and just get everything ready for the whirlwind. It's like planning ahead for a natural disaster LOL

    1. I can only imagine! But what a good idea to stock up on everything! I do that before the school year begins because I hate running out just for something small- like toothpaste. I just stock up on toiletries, paper towels, tp, etc, so I don't have to run out all the time.

  9. I love this list!! Are you going to do a follow up at the end of the summer?

I highly recommend Ohiopyle, it's a super cool park! and there is a restaurant right across the river with this AMAZING pizza!! It's a long drive, but so worth it!!

I have only planned the "With my son" summer list, he is with me 5 weekends, and I need to know ahead of time what we are doing, so we can plan and budget. Need to work on what to do the other weekends.

ooh!! I'll go to Happy hour with you!! I rarely ever go to Happy hour!
