Weekend Wrap Up!

Today is my last day off before going back to work in the new year. This is going to be a very busy winter/spring in my classroom, so I'm soaking in this last day of relaxation!

Actually, I will probably be putting away my Christmas decorations today, cleaning, laundry, and lots of "house" stuff. When my house is in order, I feel like my LIFE is in order.

Here's what we were up to this weekend... It was interesting!

My day started super early (5:43!). I felt refreshed so I just got up. I spent the morning fiddling on my computer, petting Jelly (who was curled up on my lap purring) and watching It's A Wonderful Life for the very first time. Some random thoughts as I watched the movie...

1. Isn't it dangerous for everyone to be jumping into the pool? What if they had closed the gym floor on them?

2. I didn't like when George wouldn't give Mary her robe back.

3. I thought this would be more of a Christmas movie.

4. Mary's dresses are so beautiful!

5. I'm starting to lose interest...

6. Wow, George is an asshole to his family!

7. Actually, he's an asshole to a lot of people.

My final thoughts: I just wasn't that into it!

I made pancakes and then went on a 6 mile Garmin-less run. It was at 0% charge and I didn't feel like waiting for it.

Paul had quite the morning. While he was doing work on his computer, he noticed a huge rat in the basement! When the rat saw Paul, he scurried behind the washer where there apparently is a little hole where the water pipes go into the wall. The rat went back in the hole but Paul had to try to cover it up because the rat kept trying to get back into our house! Of course this was EXTREMELY EXCITING for the cats. And since Christmas is relentless, Paul had to keep reinforcing the hole...

Much of my day was spent starting a new puzzle. Then I got crafty! (I'll tell you more about my new craft project in a future post!) Let's just say I NOW OWN A GLUE GUN!

When I was done making my craft, I went down in the basement to get tags for the gifts I made. I was in the back room (creepy) AND THE FREAKING POWER WENT OUT! I started screaming for Paul. I was convinced there was a serial killer who was going to kill me. I really need to stop listening to scary podcasts...

Luckily no one was trying to kill me. In fact, the power went out on our whole block due to a fire down the street.

Nothing was going to prevent me from doing my puzzle!

We got out lights, poured ourselves a drink, and played cards. We also ordered pizza, but by the time it came, the power was back on!

The sleeping situation that night was absolutely horrible. I could not fall asleep. I was hot, gassy, and anxious. I was worried about the rat, the house catching on fire, serial killers... It was just not a good night. I fell asleep sometime between 3-4am...

... and woke up at 6:30 unable to fall back asleep. It sucked! I had a long day ahead of me.

My plan for the day was to go up to Millersburg and run the mountain with my dad. We did 9 miles and he kicked my butt! I seriously have not pushed myself that hard in a long time. It was a good feeling. I miss that!

When we got home and showered, he sat down to log his miles in his little notebook so his mileage for 2016 is complete. He's so cute!

On my way home, I stopped at Boscov's and tried on one of those shirts with the shoulders cut out. I think they are very cute shirts but I have determined it doesn't look quite right on me!

Later that day there was a structural problem with the litter box and it came crashing down on Jelly! POOR BOY!!!

I spent a lot of the afternoon finishing this epic puzzle! Thanks to my Mom and Dad for the 3 awesome puzzles they got me for Christmas!

We had NYE dinner plans with these two studs... otherwise known as Randy and Michael.

We tried a new place in Harrisburg and it was really good. A bit pricey, but the rolls were huge... totally not expecting that. Let's just say we had a lot to take home! I had a lychee martini which was expensive (grey goose!) but DIVINE.

Paul, close your mouth.

After dinner, we sat and talked for a long time. I love Randy and Michael. I have been friends with Randy since we were in a musical together (Annie!) when we were 16. So I have been friends with him for over half my life! I am so glad he and Michael are happy together. Michael is so freaking awesome. We're glad he's our friend!

Okay, I'm done being sappy now!
We got home by 10:30 and I was in bed reading my murder blogs by 11:00. I fell asleep at some point but woke up when (what sounded like) the whole freaking neighborhood set off fireworks. Luckily I fell right back asleep.

Happy New Year! I awoke the most beautiful way humanly possible...

Seriously? Can life get better than this? I love Christmas and Jelly so much. Christmas was my first fur baby ever and we have this connection. Like when we look into each other's eyes... I can't explain it, but it is a deep connection and I appreciate his unconditional love so much!

I ran six miles that morning and then Paul and I headed to my uncle's house for pork and sauerkraut. I'm sorry I didn't take many pictures there! I had fun talking to my Aunt Jane and laughing with my mom. I wish you could hear me and my mom laugh. It is this huge cackle and we both sound exactly alike!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, MY FRIENDS!!!!!

Do you like It's A Wonderful Life?
What do you do when your power goes out?
Shoulder hole shirts... yay or nay?
What did you do for NYE?
Do you and your mom laugh alike?
Extra points if you answer every single one of these qs...

  1. I am totally getting extra points!
I have not seen It's a Wonderful Life and after your raving review, I am not sure it's on my list (but really, was it ever?!). I like the idea of holes in shirts but like you it probably wouldn't translate that well if I tried to wear it. Maybe we are not the "holes in shirts" kind of gals. Rick and I watched college bowl games and ordered take out--sleeping by 9 PM and it was bliss. I don't think I have my mom's laugh (is it sad that I am having a hard time remembering her laugh?) but every once in awhile I will blast off a sneeze and I am like "wow, that sounded like my mom" (she didn't hold back in her sneezing skills). Happy New Year. Enjoy your last day of "freedom".

    1. Thank you for answering all of the questions! I am surprised you haven't seen It's A Wonderful Life because you are such a movie buff! That's hilarious you noticed you sneeze like your momma! My dad sneezes like that- he lets it RIP.

    2. Yeah, I am a movie buff but not old movies (have considered making this a new year goal some year). I am into new movies and documentaries! Yeah, my mom...she actually had "voice" or "tone" to her sneeze--like you could hear her scream "achooo" along with the regular sneeze sounds. She wasn't messing around and normally my sneezes are very delicate (about the only delicate thing about me) but every once in awhile I must channel her and WOW. Even Rick comments "nice job honey". LOL

    3. I wonder what pitch you sneeze at? When I blow my nose, it's the F above middle C on the piano. :)

  2. I dont think the power has gone out since we have been in our house but it wasnt too bad when we were in an apartment because we could walk anywhere to get food or go out. Not sure what we would do now!

    1. You would prob have to do what we did! No worries though, it was fun... mostly because it was out for just a little over an hour.

  3. I runfess (oh wait, no) I never watched that movie all the way through. I like the shirt on you! I don't wear them cuz, cold shoulders. Haha!

    1. Thanks, Marcia! I'm sure my shoulders would get cold too!

  4. I never saw its a wonderful life but each year I say I want to.

So sorry about the fire in your neighborhood. I hope no one was hurt.

I love that your dad logs his miles! Do you get your interest of running from him?

    1. I don't think anyone was hurt because I didn't hear any news about it. I know, I was worried about the people and possible animals that lived there! I'm not sure where I get my interest in running. My dad was more of a cyclist when I started running. Now he does both.

  5. Ewwww the RAT! Last year, we were watching TV in our family room and a mouse ran through. I thought I was going to lose my shit! Ayyyyy!

Not a fan of the shoulder cut out shirts. Maybe I'm too old?

    1. I didn't like them at first. The more I saw them, I thought they looked cool. Just apparently not on me!

  6. Okay, next time you try on a shoulder hole shirt, find one that's a bit more drapey. Like, not as fitted. Channel your family's hippy dippy vibes. Wear it all loose and flowy over leggings and little ankle boots. And I can't believe you got that little of sleep and still survived. I hate not sleeping so much. It's the worst feeling ever.

    1. Thanks for the tip on the shoulder hole shirt. Do you wear them?

  7. I don't wear shoulder hole shirts... actually this is the first time I've seen one. I don't really wear anything trendy- since I work at home, my wardrobe mostly consists of race shirts and khaki shorts. When it's cold, I wear race shirts and yoga pants or jeans. Even when I worked in the office I had a classic style and wore the same clothes from year to year.

I've only watched It's a Wonderful Life once, when I was in 9th grade. We watched it at school. It wasn't a bad movie but not one I'd want to see again and again. Power outages suck especially because it's usually due to bad weather like a hurricane and that's when you want the power the most- to stay warm or cool!

    1. I bet you never saw shoulder hole shirts because no one wears sleeves in SC!!! Haha. Okay now I kind of want a shoulder hole running shirt.... :)

  8. We watched It's a Wonderful Life when I was growing up, and it was never one of my favorites. Since I've grown up and taken chances, I can't stand the movie anymore, and George Bailey in particular. If you have dreams, go after them! That's how I was raised. My mom will still watch it, but I won't. There are other Christmas movies out there I love, so she watches It's a Wonderful Life and I watch Elf.

    1. Haha I'm glad you both have your go to movies! I didn't watch any Christmas movies this year except that one (which didn't feel like a Christmas movie at all.) Next year I need to watch: Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, and While You Were Sleeping!

  9. Alan always makes us watch It's A Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve. This year I won and we didn't have to! woohoo! I think it's an OK movie, but a bit depressing. Hey, what's the Mizuno thing by the pipe in that picture?? Was it really a rat, or a field mouse? We have had a couple field mice this season already. Poor little things, they are cute!

    1. Paul said it was BIG. So a big rodent is all I can say. He used two shoe boxes to help block it off. He's a mess. Just repair the hole! What do I know!? I'm glad you won. That movie is not a good Christmas Eve movie!

  10. Okay, so do you think that hole let in a rat that kitties could have gotten to over the summer explaining the mystery blood (and bones... I think I remember there were bones discovered at some point)?

    1. Yup, most likely. Your comment made me question Paul more. Apparently there has been a panel off the wall for awhile that was never fixed. So I guess a rat or mouse or whatever chewed a hole in the wall behind the panel. So it was a lot easier to get in the house because the panel wasn't there...

    2. Case officially closed!!! You know, if only cats could speak our language they could have told you about this a long time ago! I often think about how convenient it would be if cats could talk ... Adam says all Cecil would ever say is "treats treats treats treats." I think he would also say "mom, I love you" but he would probably only say it after I give him treats.

    3. Hahaha! Chrissy would say, "Daddys, Mommy hives me chicken and milk when you're not looking!"

  11. Your hair looks good down!

    All questions? OmG!!

    I liked It's a Wonderful Life.

I don't remember when was the last time I lost power, but I would probably read.

Nay on the hole shoulders... they look cold.

We went to Rehoboth, and had sushi and pad thai in the hotel... and watched Pitbull's NYE show. I love his back up dancers!

My mom and I don't laugh alike. My mom has an energetic laugh, but very elegant, my mom is a classy lady. I laugh scream, until tears are coming out of my eyes, it's weird.
