5 Things You Can Do Today Instead of Watch the Inauguration

Hey all! I am linking up with Running on Happy and Fairytales and Fitness for Friday 5 2.0!

Today I'm going to share 5 things you can do today other than watch the inauguration.

If you're feeling anything like me, you are disappointed, angry, and scared of the prospect of our country being run by our president elect. The last thing I feel like doing today is watching inauguration coverage of a person I have absolutely zero respect for. So I thought about what I could do today other than give ratings to someone I feel is a danger to this country. What can I do today (and every day for that matter) to make this country and world a better place? Here's what I came up with...

1. Be the best teacher I can be. Whether you're a teacher, parent, aunt, uncle, or other role model for young people, it is our job to help raise and educate the next generation so our country will be in good hands.

2. Pick an issue or cause you care about and spend some time researching what you can do to help that cause.

3. Read. Knowledge is power.

4. Write a letter to thank someone who has changed your life for the better.

5. Get outside. It really is cathartic!

Another thing I will be doing is going to bed early. Tomorrow morning, I will march in Washington DC for respect, equality, and progress for ALL Americans!

  1. When is this inauguration anyway? Is it during the afternoon today while we are working? As an American, I know that is something I should probably know..lol. Regardless of who the president is, it's probably important to watch, but if it's during the day i'll be missing it too.

    1. I am pretty sure it's during the day. I am sure you would be able to watch it later online if you can't watch it at work.

    2. The Inauguration Day swearing-in ceremony takes place on January 20 following a presidential election. The term of a president commences at noon on January 20. Perhaps not knowing these simple civics facts is part of the reason Trump is taking office today.

    3. Thanks Brandon! I wasn't sure of the exact hour.

  2. I'll be working and hopefully very busy so I won't give the inauguration a thought.

  3. You know, I am definitely no pro Trump & no, I didn't vote for him.

However, I will still reserve judgment until I see what he actually does. Despite the many things he has done that I really despise (and the things he says), I'm willing to wait and see what his actions are.

And he will still be the president, and I don't really know why any sane person would want that job, so still reserving of respect. Even if you do not agree with his views.

So I probably won't watch the inauguration, I will definitely get outside, and I won't be marching either. At least not yet.

Don't get me wrong -- I truly do find Trump to be scary.

    1. I find him scary as well. My judgement is based off of what he has said so far. Believe me, I truly hope he changes his tune!

  5. I love your brain and your heart, that you'd make a list like this and take this kind of perspective on things. You're a life changer. I'm going to do a few things on that list today, and I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

    1. Thanks girl! I remember chatting with you on election night. OMG I felt so sick... and now today I feel very sad.

  6. I love these suggestions. I am working today, but intend to get outside some and do yoga. Trump scares me, but I know that WE are the nation, not just the president, and the people are what make America great *all the time*, not "again".

    1. "WE are the nation" YES! I think Obama said something like this is his goodbye he posted on Facebook yesterday and it did stir my heart and my mind. Thanks for this comment, Amy. I need to remember this when I get negative.

  8. I thought about it a lot on my run today and then during my yoga I tried to just focus my energy in and stay positive. I am just not on board with Trump and will spend my day working and thinking about a fun weekend we have planned. Rick and I watch a ton of news so I am sure I will see the "highlights" (?) later today. One thing I am doing is trying to stay off facebook. I have an acquaintance that has personally accepted the challenge to always bash Obama and try to convince everyone how great Trump is. I'm like "yeah, slow your roll there sister and stand down". BARF.

    1. I think staying off Facebook is a good thing for today! I already posted some stuff though... I am sure everyone I offend has hidden me by now and that's okay. I have hidden a lot of people. I don't need to see racist stuff in my feed! I am sure I will end up seeing "highlights" as well, I just don't need to sit down and watch the whole thing today. I am sad enough today. I'd probably ugly cry the whole time. I did cry on my run...

  9. Good ideas - although my family will be watching the inauguration tonight, when the kids can see it. Like it or not, it's a historic event and is something interesting to see. The kids are learning all about government so it ties into that too. Heck, I even watched the wedding of Prince William and Kate, and that has no factor in my life at all - I find it all fascinating! Even as crazy as it is.
Be safe tomorrow!! I'll be watching that too :)

    1. I'm glad your family will be able to watch it together since it is important to you. I can appreciate wanting to see a historic event. For me, it's too painful to watch! I did make myself watch the Obama's leave on Air Force One. I just had to get it over with so I watched, had my cry, and then taught a class lol. I watched the William and Kate wedding too! Did you watch Princess Di's funeral? I did, so sad.

    2. I did watch the funeral. :( And their wedding too! (eek, old person here)
So you are leaving in the *early* AM for Washington? Not too far to drive?

    3. Lol! You must have been young for the wedding though! I was 16 for the funeral. Yes we are taking a bus that departs Camp Hill (where I live, just 5 min East of harrisburg) at 6am! It normally takes 2 hrs to get to DC though it will surely take longer tomorrow.
