Weekend Wrap Up!

Off to work I go today! We have an in-service day to just wrap things up and then it is officially summer for this music teacher!

I hope you all enjoyed a great weekend! Here's what we were up to...

I must have been so excited for the last day of school because I woke up at 3:41 to feed the cats and couldn't fall back asleep. I dragged my butt out of bed at 4:20 and just fiddled around until it was time to go for my easy 6 miler around my hood.

Then it was THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! The students were dismissed at 10:20, so it was kind of like I blinked and then the students were gone! The rest of the day was spent wrapping up my classroom and of course the obligatory last day of school faculty meeting.

I got a really sweet card from one of my students...

After work I went to my friend Cathleen's house for a girl's night! It was a bunch of music teachers and one phys ed teacher. We had a great time! Unfortunately I didn't take any pics, but I swear it happened.

I did not run today because I was scared I had the beginning of Plantar Fasciitis! More on that saga tomorrow, I promise. Instead of running, I lifted back at Planet Fitness, did a million foot/calf stretches, and did my glute/hip/core stuff. It was a great workout despite missing the 8 miles I was supposed to do... (Believe me, I felt guilt!)

That afternoon was my piano recital- Opus V! This is a joint recital I do with my piano students and my SIL's violin students. Everyone did a great job!

I really do have great students! They work hard and they crack me up!

Oh, 10 minutes before I had to leave for the recital, I sliced my finger while cutting watermelon. It is probably the worst kitchen accident I ever had. It still really hurts and it is hard to type. I only type using four fingers anyway (I am really fast!!) but now I can only use 3 fingers!

After the recital, my family came over for burgers on the grill!

Before I went to bed, Paul and I had fun looking at "Ermergerd Animal Memes". Seriously, go to Google Image and type that in. You will not regret it!

Before I even got out of bed in the morning I stretched my foot and my calf. When I stepped out of bed... no heel pain! Not even a little. This was a good sign. I decided it was safe to tackle my 8 miler that was on the schedule. I was soooo humid but it felt great to run. I thought about doing 10 to make up for skipping Saturday, but I decided against it. Besides, I was meeting my friend to walk, so I'd be on my feet a lot. We ended up walking 4 miles!

When I took Paul to the gym, I putzed around Good Will and found THIS:

It was only $7.99! Score!!!

Then we visited Randy and Michael, who have a new addition to their family...

Meet Brienne of Tarth!!! She is a BABYYYYY!

Paul wanted sushi for dinner, and since he has been on chemo for the past 3 days, whatever the chemo patient wants, he gets. I can't complain about it!!!

We ate and watched Talladega Nights. Stupid comedy. But love spending time with my boy!!!

Did you ever slice your finger bad?
How many fingers do you type with?
How many sushi rolls do you normally eat?
Tell me something fun you did this weekend!

  1. I haven't had sushi in forever! When we go out, I usually don't get it but I taste Clay's. I like it but it's just not something I eat very often because typically I want other stuff at the Japanese restaurant more. Looks like you had an awesome week and really busy, though! I'm glad that you don't think you have PF, and that the school year is done so that you have more time for yourself and less stress! Eek for the watermelon cut/finger... yuck. I once got blisters from opening water bottles at a race and that was a crazy injury because I never got a blister on my feet from running...

    1. I really like the hibachi meals at the Japanese places. :) And really, they last for like three meals! That is sort of funny that your race blister was on your finger! You are a special runner for that to happen! :)

    2. Well, I was volunteering at the race because I was injured, and my finish line job was opening those bottles. I got 3 blisters from it.

I love the hibachi shrimp and veggies! And you're right, it's like 3 meals and actually very good fuel for running the next day.

  2. Very glad your foot is OK! PF is no joke! I love all the family pics--the girls are adorable! I have had a few kitchen accidents and one that required a trip to the ER so they could "glue" my thumb back together :( I type all day so I use all my fingers--I am glad I still have them all despite being a terrible klutz. Every time I have had sushi it has been with a huge group and I lose track of how much I eat...but it's A LOT. Our weekend was lots of baseball watching at my nephew's tournament and breakfast w/ an awesome friend yesterday morning. Now back to work but I will google emergerd animals memes cuz how funny are those?!?

    2. Yeah, and I knew better as I was trying to pry apart frozen burgers with a very sharp knife. I even said "probably not a great idea to do this"....and sure enough, it wasn't. I am super excited about Friday! Colorado is going to have some warm weather for you this weekend!! I can't wait to see you guys!

    3. I know, the weather looks perfect!!! I am still packing pants and sweatshirts... I get COLD and I figure it will be cold when we're in the mountains. I don't want to make the mistake I did when we drove up Mt. Evans. I was the whacko freezing at the top in shorts and flip flops!!

  3. I hope that heel pain stayed away for your run today?!

Brienne.... I can't. Toooooo cute! My mom's cat (georgie) is coming to stay with us for about 10 days this evening. It will be fun to have two cats in the house for a little bit. It will be fun for me anyway, Cecil doesn't really like being around other cats. Whenever he has to spend time with Georgie he looks exhausted by the end because I think he doesn't sleep well/is a little bit stressed out.

    Happy last day of school!

    1. Apparently it's a name from Game of Thrones. :) Oh Cecil needs to lighten up and enjoy having a playmate/napm ate for ten days! It is hard for cats to change their routines so I can understand the stress.

  4. MANY years ago we bought some Cutco knives and I was using the largest one to cut an onion (or maybe it was a potato) for a casserole I was making for a Labor Day picnic. Well I ended up slicing my finger and hand to go to the ER for 3 stitches. I was all bandaged up with my finger in a splint. As if that wasn't enough, the next day I started a new job at a new High school teaching a Food and Nutrition class. Our first lesson was on Kitchen Safety. Wasn't that ironic?
Glad your foot pain didn't turn into something more.

    1. Owwwwww and LOL at your poor finger and the having to teach the safety class!!! I didn't GET stitches but I am not sure if I should have. It's not bleeding but it's not closed up...

  5. I hope everything went well with Paul's Chemo.

Ouch! that cut looks very painful! did you need stitches? I once cut my middle finger with the lid of a can. Some days the joint still hurts.

The group picture of the recital looks adorable!

I haven't gone perusing at Goodwill for a long time!

I use all 10 fingers to type, because I took typing classes in middle school, and one teacher tortured us about using all fingers. She was one of the meanest teachers I had. She used to make us type of type writers that were blank, and we were not allowed to leave her class until the assignment was done.

    1. Owwww I winced at you cutting yourself on a can lid. I have done that before but nothing deep.

Wow maybe if I had your teacher I would type with more fingers! But I swear I am super fast with just using 4 and really have adapted well to only three haha!

  6. I've sliced my fingers, and the worst one was cutting onions. I was thinking about how I'd mastered that technique and then bam! the knife got my finger and I started bleeding almost right away. I also got my nail and I had to wait for it to grow out before I could trim it.

    1. Ow hitting your nail must have been so painful!!! :(

  7. I went on a sushi hunt saturday night and couldn't find any! Damn town I live in decided to just get rid of it for the weekend or something! I was pretty upset and Kevin had to force me to pick something else :)

    1. Well gosh darn it that stinks! We have several sushi places around here. There is a place about 20 min away that has 1/2 price sushi on Sundays so that is what we did yesterday.

  8. Yay for the last day of school! Im glad your foot felt better on Sunday. I know I have sliced my finger but I can't remember what I was doing. I have also broken two fingers (on two different occasions).

    1. Owwww! I have never broken anything. I did sprain my ankle in HS. I think if I had to break anything I would pick my fingers. Even though I need them for piano lessons, selfishly I would want to pick part of my body that would not interfere with running!

  10. Prolly a good thing you didn't take any pictures of that night if there was a phys ed teacher there. They can get pretty wild.

When I was 19 I cut my finger open by slamming the front door on it and it got stuck in the clicky metal thing and took off the top of my finger like not the end, but horizontally. And so I went to the doctor and he sent me over to the ER and told me to give the receptionist a note. So I did, of course and while I was sitting there, in the waiting room full of people, she calls out my name "SUSAN HUTCHINS??!?!? YOUR DOCTOR WROTE A NOTE SAYING THAT YOU'RE A BIT STRESSED OUT AND MAY NEED A SEDATIVE. DO YOU NEED A SEDATIVE?" I was so embarrassed. I didn't take the pill, but I sure regret that. I'd take one now in a heartbeat just for shits and giggles.

  11. Thanks Karen :)

Yes I do remember your heel! That was horrible!

You and I type alike! I bet you type really fast though. :) My finger is feeling better so I am back to typing with 4 fingers.
