What's up guys!?

Here's what's going on...

Last Man Standing Recovery

The day after the race... I felt sick in the stomach. I was hungry, but the thought of eating food made my stomach churn. My quads and kneecaps were sore.

Two days out.. I felt almost completely back to normal soreness wise. My appetite was back to normal as well.

Three days out... I ran 5 easy miles. The real feel was zero degrees. I was bundled up like a marshmallow! Besides my legs feeling tired, there was no leftover soreness or niggles from the race. SCORE!

Back To The Grind

I survived the first day back to work and even managed to get good sleep the night before. THANK YOU, Mary Higgins Clark!

Boy was I excited to get home, put on my pjs, and puzz-puzz! (Do my puzzle, for you newbs.)

Have you Hear of This Book?

Kristen @ Glitter and Dust is reading it, and after hearing her review, I immediately bought it off Amazon. Damn, that one click ordering is dangerous! I am very excited to read it and simplify my life!

New Podcast!

I discovered a new podcast called History Goes Bump. Here is a description of the show from their website: "The tagline for the show is “Ghost tours for the theater of the mind” and that is the goal of the podcast:  to take listeners on a virtual tour of a place they may never have the chance to visit and to entertain while possibly sharing something listeners may not have heard before."

So far, I have enjoyed podcasts about Lizzie Borden, Marilyn Monroe, and the Salem Witch Trials. I actually had to turn the Marilyn one off during my run because I was so freaked out! (It was dark out.) I don't believe in ghosts, but I love stories about them!

What's up!?
Have you ever tried to declutter?
Any Mary Higgins Clark fans out there?

  1. Total score on bouncing back from that intense race! You are strong. I am back to work and really missing the slower, less stressed pace of vacation. As for decluttering, when Rick and I moved into this house 15 years ago we had a lot of stuff from our old house we had to get rid of and from that day on, I promised that I would declutter more. I go through my house about once per month and send at least one box of stuff to good will. Feels so much better to have way less stuff--it's freeing, I think. I read MHC years ago. At that time I loved her books. Not sure if I would still love them now. Happy Hump Day!

    1. I get kind of sick of MHC sometimes because let's face it, all of her books are the same. But they can be good. My favorite was always "Loves Music, Loves to Dance". Very creepy.

I am impressed that you go through once a month. That probably makes it less daunting. Right now I have closets, the storage room, cupboards... ugh!

    2. I know you can do it. Truth be told, it's not hard for me. I naturally am a "get rid of stuff" type person. I know it's a struggle for some but practice doing it and even small changes will show big improvements. I think that was my fave MHC book! It was creepy!

  2. That tidying up book is getting a LOT of buzz. I think the author seems a little nuts - like, she wants you to talk to your clothes, believe your socks have feelings, and ONLY keep things in your house that bring you joy - but I do like the different way she talks about getting rid of things. There are definite tips I'll use. This is an article & breakdown I read on it: http://www.today.com/series/secrets-of-success/life-changing-magic-tidying-testing-marie-kondos-method-t21356

    1. Uh oh. If I have to talk to my clothes and assign feelings to my socks I think this book is going to annoy me! Oh well it was 10 bucks and if it doesn't give me joy I will get rid of it hahaha. Hey thanks for the link can't wait to read it!

    2. Ali, that is funny! I looked at the book when I was at Barnes and Noble just to glance thru and I thought the same thing. The talking to your clothes piece. Ugh.

    3. Oh no! Oh well if it is that ridiculous maybe I will just have to skim it.

  3. Wow you guys really got hit with the cold finally! I made a really good dent in decluttering just before the New Year and it feels great. Now to keep it that way!

    1. I know! That's how it usually is- nothing crazy cold happens until Jan, then we enjoy it for 3 months haha. Good job on decluttering! Can't wait to get started.

  4. I did a huge decluttering before we moved, now I am trying to decorate the new house, which is kind of like "cluttering"... :)
Those podcasts would freak me out. My parents live about 20 minutes away from the "Lizzie Borden" house--I was TERRIFIED as a kid.
I used to read Mary Higgins Clark all the time...

    1. I can imagine moving would really inspire some decluttering. I want to go visit the Lizzie Borden house! The case fascinates me! I think Paul and I will go up in the summer. I am 6 hrs away but but NYC is right on the way sooooo maybe we could stop there for a night. :)

  5. I have totally great plans to declutter... but no, it never really gets done. Wanted to mention that the race you ran sounds awesome! I have never heard of that type of race, but I'd love to get one going here with our running club. You do so well in it too!! I would not have lasted that long. You rock!
That last book I read was "Out of my mind", by Sharon Draper. It's a YA book that my daughter recommended. I rarely ever read, but that book really got to me. I was obsessed with it for WEEKS. It really made me think and change my view and thoughts about people with disabilities. It gets me all worked up just thinking about it again! I highly recommend it.

    1. It was a very neat race!

Thank you for recommending that book. I am going to see if my library has it.

  6. Good morning Megan - I do like Mary Higgins Clark - easy, fun reading at it's best! I also like me some good literature (I was an English major so I have to say that - I went to Albright College - have you heard of it?).
I am the QUEEN of de-cluttering - my husband and I both are very clean and organized people, so we almost never have any clutter. If we do, it goes away very quickly. I am a little OCD, so everything has to be in it's place. Plus, with two boys and a dog, things have to remain clean or I go crazy! Happy New Year! Kristen

    1. Exactly, easy fun reading. :) YES I have actually been to Albright to see some shows since one of my best friends was in the drama dept. and Domino Players there.

I admire your organizational and decluttering skills!

    2. I had many good friends who were in the drama department there - loved all of the productions (I graduated a long time ago!). It's a great school, very liberal and open-minded. I had some really incredible professors.

  7. lol I think that is my excuse too. we have a storage room in our basement and about once every year and a half we organize it, then in 6 months it is a MESS again. How!? It's not even like we have kids to blame it on!

  8. I always declutter. I'm notorious for throwing shit out that shouldn't be tossed. I ordered a book from a little used book store and I'm picking it up today. Yay! The Awakening. It's an oldie.

  9. Omg I am super intrigued by that podcast but terrified to listen to it. I don't believe in ghosts either but I am a scaredy cat anyway! I guess I should say I don't believe in ghosts 99% of the time, but when I am alone in the dark I can get myself super worked up over the idea of them!!!

I'm glad your soreness went away and no niggles!!!!!

    1. It is scary, even though it is not actually that scary! I am such a scaredy cat too. I won't listen to it on a run or if I am home alone. It has also given me a ton of good ideas for places to visit this summer. I just listened to a podcast on Salem and Plymouth. :)

  10. I'm glad you ordered the book and I hope you like it. There is definitely information in the book that seems "out there" but the applicability and themes presented really helped me. I really connected with the idea of finding joy in what I own and wear. While I don't agree with the author on everything she discusses, there was a lot of helpful insight!

    1. I am hopeful I will enjoy it as well. I can't wrap my head around "socks have feelings" but the whole "bring me joy" thing, I can. I can picture myself saying, Okay, WHY do I have this? IS it because I THINK I like it, or do I actually like it/need it. I think it will be good. Plus, I trust you. :)

  11. I have recently started to listen to podcasts when I trained for the 50k. It's a nice change from music. I am always looking for new ones to download. I have never read Mary Higgins Clark. I am more of a Danielle Steel Person..haha:)

  12. I need to declutter! But I live with 3 other men and that is a tough task!

  13. Okay, I love your peace sign/wine photo. :)

That sounds like a really interesting podcast! I love spooky things.
