Something Sweet!

Paul can be very sweet when he wants to be. Of course he always treats me like a princess, (Everybody go "awwwwwww!") but sometimes he can just be extra sweet. Like this past Wednesday.

On Wednesday he had the horrible task of traveling down to Baltimore to get an MRI. Have you ever gotten an MRI? They suck. I have only ever gotten one on my knee, and that doesn't even require my whole body to be in the machine. When Paul gets a brain scan, he has to be the whole way in the machine. Hellooooo claustrophobia! Not only that, but his tumor causes epilepsy, so all those wonderful sounds and flashing lights basically turn the MRI into a seizure machine! He has to concentrate very hard and try not to let the noises, lights, and anxiety cause a seizure.

One thing he tells me when I can't sleep at night is this: "Picture Christmas and Jelly in a big field, running around chasing butterflies." That doesn't help me fall asleep, but it does make me smile every time I think of it because it reminds me how much Paul cares about me!

This is what I sent him 20 minutes before his MRI was supposed to start:

And what he sent me when he was done:

One of the things Hopkins always has available in the room where you change for your MRI are those hospital socks with the rubber on the top and bottom of them. I know this sounds weird, but I really like those things! I got a cute yellow pair after my knee surgery that I would wear all the time. Soon they got kind of disgusting and I had to throw them out.

My yellow rubber socks helping me recover from knee surgery.

But never fear, I have about 3 pairs of light blue rubber hospital socks because Paul swipes a pair for me from time to time when he gets an MRI. And this past Wednesday, when he got home from a long day in Baltimore filled with blood work, brain scans, and doctors appointments, he slapped these babies into my hands!

Be still my heart!!!!

Even though MRIs are the suckiest thing ever (okay not as sucky as radiation!), he still thinks to grab a pair of socks for me. It's not even the socks that are sweet, it's that he thinks of me!

Tell me something sweet your partner does for you!

  1. Awww, that is so cute! If I have something going on and Matt needs to get Lola he takes her to his office where she has toys, treats and her own little bed there. Throughout the day I'll get text photos of Lola "Having fun at the office," or "Working hard at the office," lol.

  2. No doubt about it, Paul is a true gem! Just an amazing person and an extra amazing husband. Rick is by far my biggest supporter in life. His favorite thing to say is "I believe in you baby". He also leaves me sticky notes around the house that say hi and tell me he loves me. I have a collection of them on the back of my office door (at home) and look at them all the time. I honestly feel like the luckiest girl in the world to have him by my side.

  5. I read this post at work and legit had to go to the bathroom because I was sobbing by the end. It's too much - Paul thinking of the cats during his MRI - Paul getting you socks afterwards. You guys are the best.

    1. Aw I am sorry I didn't mean to make you sob! I know, it's the cats. ;)

I actually cried at work today too. In the morning, I was cutting lamination in my room and I had no students, so I listened to a podcast while I cut- it was the one called Criminal- not sure if I recommended it to you or you recommended it to me or what. But they were describing a man who had lethal injection and the were describing what the drugs do to the body and I started to think of our kitty Basic who we had to put to sleep. :( I lost it!!!

  6. That is so lovely - what a wonderful man you have! It's the little, kind gestures that make the world so beautiful and that always restores my faith in the human race.
My husband always takes care of my car and always tries to get gas for it. That is a little thing, but it is so appreciated! Kristen

    1. It's a little thing, but it's the little things that make up the big things. :) What a sweet gesture for your hubby to fill up your car with gas. I HATE getting gas, so I would certainly appreciate that as well.

  7. Awww, that is sweet! I hope all goes well with his tests. It's funny, my Dad gave me two pairs of those socks from his hospital visits because he had several of them and thought I would like them too! I had an MRI a few years ago on my foot and I was nervous that I wouldn't be still enough and mess up the expensive test!

  9. It honestly is the little things that count. The fact that he remembers that you love those socks and remembers to get them for you even after enduring an MRI says a lot!
