Randomy Randomness Part 2

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Here you go... some random things I would like to share! This is Part 2. Don't miss Part 1, which I posted yesterday!

I am now a smug person who makes soup.

A couple days ago, I posted on Facebook about how I want to be the type of person who makes soup.

Well, it turns out that so many wonderful people in my life make soup! And they all commented on my post with very encouraging words about how I TOO COULD MAKE SOUP. Boy did I feel empowered... so empowered that the very next day I went to Aldi and got everything I needed to make a yummy chicken noodle soup! It took one call to my friend Andrea and a few more encouraging words from Facebook, and I made that soup!!!!

Chrissy helped.

I am now a smug person who makes soup. I also do puzzles. My real age is 33 but apparently I act about 74!!!!

Sweet Valley Twins

I am rereading a book I read in middle school. It is from the Sweet Valley Twins series. I like rereading books from my childhood, and since they are all packed in boxes in my basement, they are easily available to me! This particular book creeped me out as a kid and it is still creeping me out now! One thing I think is interesting (I noticed this while rereading several books from my childhood) is that the way I envision the stories in my mind now are the same as when I was a kid! The scenes in the books look exactly the same in my head now as they did years ago. I am sure there is some scientific reason for this. Do you guys know what I am talking about?

Want to see the first pic I ever put on FB?

Paul and I circa 2006. Damn we look young. Also, isn't Paul hot!?

"Stuff"

I try not to buy a lot of "stuff". Sure, you have to buy SOME stuff. Running shoes is STUFF. The outdoor lighting I'm going to talk about later in my post is STUFF. But I tend to feel guilty when I buy new shoes, jewelry, or clothes. I don't know why. I work hard and teach piano lessons, and one of the perks of that is to be able to buy myself things I "want" and don't ultimately NEED. In general, we like to spend out money on experiences rather than STUFF. But we went to the mall two days after Christmas and...

Paul used my upgrade to get himself a Samsung S6 smartphone.
While he spent an our at the Verizon kiosk, I putzed around the mall and spent some money...

I got a beautiful dress at Express. It was 50% off, so it was $39.50. I don't need this dress but it fit so perfectly that I could not pass it up! Can someone please get married or throw a fancy New Years Eve party so I can wear this? Also, the picture doesn't do it justice!

Holiday scents at Bath and Bodyworks were on sale for $3.50! I got this fun scent called Jingle All the Way. It will last me years!

Remember how I wanted to be the Girl With The Gold Watch? I AM NOW THE GIRL WITH THE GOLD WATCH!

AND THE GIRL WITH THE BIG SUNGLASSES!

AND THE GIRL WITH THE RUBBER WATCH THAT IS WHITE WITH GOLD FLECKS!!

It's like sporty/dressy. I love it.

Watch out, Cumberland Road!

Two days after Christmas, I hit up every store I could think of in efforts to purchase some outdoor holiday lighting at 50% off. Remember those beautiful icicle lights I hung? They lasted for two days and went out!

The inside of our home is decorated to the hilt during the holidays, but the outside gets ignored! This year, I took some Christmas cash my parents gave me and spent it on items that will make our home look like the Griswald's next year! Watch out Cumberland Road, look what we have....

Net lighting for the bushes.

Candy canes to line the carport.

Icicle lights to replace the ones that don't work.

A 3.5 foot blow up Santa and a 5 foot blow up PENGUIN WITH A FUCKING CANDY CANE!!!!!

LED solar powered lights to run across the front of the house. I got eight.

I also stocked up on outdoor extension cords because I truly don't know how the hell all this is going to work...

Tell me something RANDOM!
Do you decorate the outside of your house?
What books from your childhood SCARED you?
Do you make soup? Share a recipe with me please! Something easy...

  1. Oh, wow...that dress is amazing! And your house is going to be epic next year. I did read Sweet Valley High when I was in jr. high. I loved those books. Something random: I don't make any health related new years goals. We do decorate the outside of our house with colored lights and an lit up angel in our kitchen window. I love running in the winter and picking out my favorite houses. The one on the street behind us is amazing! I have an excellent chicken tortilla soup and chicken chili recipe that I will share w/ you.

    1. What are you NY goals? I don't have any yet either! Can't wait to try your soup recipe. :) The tortilla part sounds interesting. I love looking at Christmas lights. I am glad a lot of people around here keep them up after Christmas.

  2. I have only made butternut squash soup but I wish I knew how to make a good, homemade chicken noodle soup! Looks like you got some great deals this week. Have a happy New Year!

  3. Your soup looks great! I'd love to see you in the dress, I bet it's amazing on!

Our outside of the house is pretty simple: Icicle lights hanging off the back deck and a string of coloured LED lights around the rails of the front entrance. We are in a duplex so I find it a little trickier to decorate outside.

In my soups I usually put veggies, broth, protein(usually chicken or turkey) and some egg noodles. :)

    1. Your decorations sound very grown up and tasteful. I would like to put turkey in my next soup but Paul will be in charge of making the meet! HE makes all my chicken. :)

I wanted to put a pic of me in the dress but I had on no makeup, hair frizzy, it was just a mess!

  4. Ah...home made soup is the best. We like looking at old pictures. It funny to see clothing and hair styles back in the day. You Two look great!! You have to treat yourself every once and a while. Mrs Schlub has to remind me because i hate spending money lol. We love decorating inside and out. My mother in law makes an amazing turkey soup but sorry i have No idea what that recipe is.

    1. My husband doesn't spend a lot of money either. Hey, that is a good thing, right!? But then I have to urge him to get things he needs. Like he will wear the same sneakers for 3 years, where here I am going through 3-4 pairs of running shoes each year.

  5. You are HILARIOUS. The captions on the watches cracked me up. "The girl with the rubber watch that is white with gold flecks." LOLOL. I can't believe the penguin is actually holding a candy cane. The detail that goes into these things!!! Happy New Year, Meg!

    1. Well thank you, I am glad you get my humor! :)

Have a Happy, Happy New Year!!!

  6. Wow, you really hit the sales! We don't decorate outside because my husband would leave everything up all year round. That drives me nuts, and so I would have to take it down. I think that he does it on purpose but why can't he just take the stuff down? Anyways, its one less thing for us to argue about.

    1. One year my husband "couldn't find" the icicle lights and I think it was so he didn't have to put them up!

  7. The Curse of the Ruby Necklace scared the hell out of me too! I don't remember any of the details but I remember reading it in bed at night and being scared to go to sleep!

    Love your new watches :)

Did Paul have a smartphone before?

    1. That is so cool you read it! It is where they are filming a movie about the Keller Mansion based off of what really happened there- a 12 yr old girl fell from the balcony and died. The twins start wearing her ruby necklace and have dreams about the murder and figure out who did it. SO creepy!

    2. Oh yes Paul had a smartphone for a little over a year now. :)

  9. There is something oddly satisfying about buying new things, although sometimes it's buyers remorse or guilt too!! That dress is really pretty. I will actually have to buy a new dress this year for a family wedding. Big excitement for me!! :) That's cool that you got all of those outdoor decorations and lights. We only have a few lights, well, because they are expensive. I would have bought more if I went shopping right away after Christmas too, but I'm sure they are all gone now. Your house will look awesome!

    1. That is cool you get to buy a new dress! I wish there were more occasions in which we could wear fancy dresses. I agree, outdoor lighting is EXPENSIVE. They barely had anything left when I went two days after Christmas. I still winced at the discount prices. But, it will bring me JOY and that is priceless. ;)

  10. How does Paul like the new Samsung? I am in need of a new phone soon. I have the S4, so I feel like the S6 would be a huge upgrade.

Don’t you just love Christmas sales? That is the ONLY time to really buy décor.

The Goosebump books my from my childhood still bring back scary memories.

    Yes, Paul is hot.
