Weekend Wrap Up!

After a full week of school with students, I was ready for the weekend!
You know, I forgot what kid farts smell like, but after this week, I remember...
Let's just say now that I am back at work, I am sooooo thankful for weekends!

Something astounding happened on Friday afternoon, and I really need you to brace yourself for this one. I mowed the lawn! We were due. For some reason, when I had to go back to work, I just stopped mowing the lawn. I chose laying on the couch and sleep over household chores.

That evening, Paul and I chilled on the back porch. We drank (well I drank) and played games. Then Paul grilled us some turkey burgers.

We got the fire pit going. Usually we eat dinner and watch Jeopardy, but that night, we watched the fire.

The entire time, the cats stared at us through the back windows. The looks on their faces progressed from extremely indignant to royally pissed that we would be outside without them. They remember the days they used to be allowed to frolic in the backyard. But then Jelly ran up the neighbor's tree and got stuck, so that put and end to that!

It was great to sleep in until 9 and wake up with Christmas cuddled in my arms. I guess he forgot about last night and was ready to forgive me.

The weather was gorgeous, so around 11, I set out for a 12 miler. I had a great run and felt like I was truly in long run territory!

That afternoon, we went to my cousin's BBQ and hung with family. We had a great time and I got to satiate my RUNGER with some awesome food. Oh, the theme was AMERICA so everyone was decked out in red, white and blue.

They're getting married! It was an "I Do BBQ"!
Kristy has been a part of our family for so long, I already consider her a cousin!

Me and my Auntie Eileen.
I am often compared to her, and I consider it a huge compliment!

My Momma and Daddio!

That's the shirt I got him for our anniversary!

They even had a big screen up so everyone could watch the Little League World Series. Our very own REDLAND was competing and WON the U.S. Championship! I don't follow baseball, let alone little league, but that is cool that a team from such a small town in Central PA ended up winning the whole thing! Oh, and one of my former students was on the team! SO COOL!

I stayed up really late so I had to force myself to get out of bed around 9am. I didn't want to sleep too late and then not be able to go to bed at a decent time. My workout was sort of lazy- I was very tired. I spent most of the day just lounging around. Hey, that's what some Sundays are for, right!?

I started a puzzle and worked diligently while researching Bernie Sanders. I had taken one of those "Which presidential candidate do you side with?" quizzes and it turns out that I side with Bernie above and beyond the other candidates. Yet I didn't know anything about him or his campaign, so I watched about a dozen videos online and read some articles. I'm starting to feel the Bern...

Did you watch the Little League World Series?

Do you ever take the "I side with" quizzes? I think it is interesting to not only see your results, but just taking the quiz forces you to think about what issues are important you you.

  1. What a fun weekend, Meg! And I would be like you and totally watch a championship game if a Colorado team were in it. That is actually really cool and how awesome to watch it w/ a group (love watching sports w/ a group). Overall, how did you feel after your kick ass 12 miler? I am so impressed with you (as always...).

    1. Well full disclosure I didn't actually WATCH I was just kind of there and when the crowd cheered I knew they were doing well! Haha I was mainly gabbing with my aunts and cousins. :) I felt great after 12 miles! Did 3 yesterday- slooooow and 5 today- sloooooow. It's easy to go slow a dark o'clock in the morning.

    2. Yeah, I "watch" that way sometimes, too! That is awesome that you are feeling so good. It is amazing how far you have come in such a short time. Keep it up, girl. Running in the dark is my jam!

  2. I just took the quiz and got Bernie Sanders too (94%), but Hillary was a close second (92%). Since I think Hillary has a much better chance at the nomination - and I'm excited about the potential of a woman president - I'm going to continue supporting her. I'm disturbed that I had a 32% match with Donald Trump! Ugh.

Poor Jelly stuck up a tree! I can see why you keep them indoors. I keep Cecil indoors too because I am afraid of him attracting bugs! How did you end up getting Jelly down?

    1. Oh my well at least you can be pretty sure about the things you do NOT agree with Trump on! I agree Hillary has more of a chance getting the nom and I will obviously support her if she does get it. It WOULD be exciting to have a female president, that is for dang sure.

So Jelly runs up the tree, out onto a branch, and then just lays down clutching it and lets out the most horrible moan. It was like he was saying "oh fuck me how am I getting down from this?" haha. Paul borrowed a neighbor's ladder and I stood under Jelly ready to catch him if I needed to. Paul went up the ladder at the trunk of the tree and called for Jelly. Jelly knew Paul was his only hope. He carefully turned around and scampered over to Paul and jumped on his shoulders, grabbing him with a death grip. We were so relieved!

  3. You're better than me - I don't mow the lawn EVER! Tried it once. Hated it! My husband does it now!

    1. You know I never mowed until my husband was unable to do it, so now I HAVE to. I thought I would go my whole life without ever mowing the lawn because I had brothers!

  4. Your kitties are so cute. We just got a kitten this weekend!!! Andrew has a phobia of cats so this is a HUGE DEAL in our house. So exciting.

  5. Looks like a fun weekend. The picture of you by the fire pit is a keeper. When my dogs get mad at me, they empty out the bathroom garbage...nice.
I kind of like mowing the lawn (However, my son does it now). It was a job that I could do and the kids couldn't "undo" in 5 seconds. It makes me feel accomplished to have those nice lines...

    1. I love how our pets are NOT afraid to tell us how they are really feeling. They're like furry two year olds.

That is funny and a good point that no one can mess up the lawn right after you mowed it! We have an electric lawn mower so my "lines" are all over the place from whipping the extension cords out of the way and trying not to run them over. :)

  7. LOL that's hilarous that the cats are staring out the windows at you! I would have freaked having my cat stuck up in a tree! Your supper looks delish :D Great job on the 12 miles!
