Weekend Wrap Up!

This is the third weekend in a row where I got sick. What the heck!? There is something about Friday nights where my health goes down hill. This weekend was the worst yet. Friday evening through Sunday afternoon I had a killer sore throat, headache, chills... even my hair hurt. It wasn't fun.

Here is what we were up to this weekend...

It was freezing Friday morning, but I walked anyway. After my walk, my knee and IT band were bothered. What the heck!? I was walking. This knee thing is so weird. I look for a rhyme and reason for when it bothers me and when it doesn't and I just can't find any. On my 2 hour trail run last weekend it felt great. Five mile walk today, and it is angered. I really felt like the IT band pain was gone, since I hadn't experienced it in quite awhile.

I was in a great mood at work. Fun Fact: If you let kindergarteners pick a song for the Freeze Game and Help Me Rhonda is one of the choices, they will always pick Help Me Rhonda!

When I got home from work, Paul beat my ass in a couple card games. I was still in a good mood, and managed to get some work done on my puzzle. We party hard of Fridays...

Dinner was a chicken dog and lots of broccoli!

Then we watched 5 episodes of Jeopardy. Are we the the only people who refuse to stop watching until the person we hate loses? We had to watch 5 episodes but finally the annoying woman who clicked her tongue and smiled smugly whenever she got an answer correct CRASHED AND BURNED!!!

This week, I started a new thing where I actually practice piano. With teaching music all day and then teaching piano lessons at night, the last thing I want to do is sit at a piano. However, I found an old Sonatina book of mine and have been playing from it this week. I had forgotten how relaxing it is to play piano and how easy it is to get lost in your own little world when practicing. I practiced for almost an hour on Friday night and it seriously felt like I was only doing it for 10 minutes.

Oh, I forgot to mention... Paul got me a shweet from Sheetz and a PEPSI MAX. Pepsi Max is NO JOKE. Even though I got up at 5:30 on Friday morning, I was still wide awake at 1:00 am!!! I know diet soda isn't good for you, but I may need to keep an emergency Pepsi Max around...

Why do I always get sick on the weekend? I woke up with a sore throat, but was determined not to let it ruin our day. We drove to Overlook Park in Lancaster so Paul could play disc golf and I could walk.

I was so tired, but figured a walk and a Pepsi Max would perk me up... Wow, this was turning into the weekend of fake sugar!

Look at all the little buddies I saw on my walk...

A walked 5 miles, but as soon as I was done I felt horrible. I had a headache, even worse sore throat and chills. I was also so tired that I felt like falling asleep.

We spent the rest of the evening watching Survivor. Jelly cuddled. He's the best medicine.

It was really hard to sleep on Saturday night due to my coughing. I woke up around 8 and still felt really crappy. I also started to feel lazy about all the "house" stuff that needed done but I didn't have the energy for (weeding, mow lawn, clean house, scrub floors, etc.). To top it all off, Christmas peed somewhere in the dining room but I can't find it. I was down on my hands and knees twice with my flashlight. This mystery pee is nowhere to be found...

I walked with my friend Bree, even though I didn't feel great. Sometimes exercise makes you feel better and sometimes it makes you feel worse. I felt worse after but soon I recovered.

I visited my family that afternoon. They were at my brother's house. My niece Ellie and I took a selfie. She is so cute.

Well, I need to wax my eyebrows...

Daddio, Ellie, and Auntie Megan

That evening we watched... you guessed it, Survivor. We're up to season 16 now! (This is over the course of about a year and a half.)

I will leave you with a picture of a boy and his cat.

Did you get to see your family this weekend?
Tell me something fun you were up to!
I walked 15 miles! How far did you run this weekend?

  1. Ugh..sorry for the cold and the knee/IT band stuff. You take care girl. We spent Saturday at Trent's baseball tournament which they took 1st and Sunday at Kyle's birthday party. I love that we got time with Rick's family and my family. Friday and Sunday were runs (5 miles each) and Saturday was 15 mile bike ride. Today is REST (yay).

  2. I'm so sorry you've been sick! That is no fun :( These transitional seasons are horrible for health sometimes!

I wish I still played my violin. I quit after 7 years because once I got to college I just didn't have the time for it anymore. I miss it, it's on my bucket list to start playing again and maybe get good enough to join the symphony! LOL maybe when I retire...

  3. I hope you are feeling better today. I did a bit of yard work this weekend, and wow, am I sore.
A duck, a bird, some horses...and...a llama??? lol
I haven't "practiced" piano in a while either...I play keys in church, but it is different than playing for enjoyment...I miss it!

    1. I agree, playing for work and stuff is different than just playing for fun. :)

I actually don't know what it is! Is it a llama!?

  4. Knee things ARE weird. Sometimes mine starts hurting out of nowhere when I'm just sitting or standing, then an hour later it's fine and I can run on it without any pain. So weird. I guess maybe the cold could exacerbate it for you? I'm jealous of your cooler temps though!

    1. See and I just want it to warm up! :)

My knee has hurt almost every day during this week+ of no running. Which is funny because the whole reason I stopped running was due to the PIMA.

  5. Sorry you have been feeling sick! I drove up to NY with my mom and sister this weekend. I was up at 4:30 and Sat morning and got 4 hours of sleep Sat night. I could have used some pepsi max haha!

  6. So sorry you were sick. it does seem as though sicknesses always strike on the the weekend. Maybe the body knows it needs to get through the week of work so holds off! I know you are good with the fake sugar consumption, but it is often all you want right before and during a bad cold or flu. The last thing you feel like is water.

I did get to see my family this weekend. We had them over for a huge feast-corn on the cob, portobello mushrooms, a huge veggie and herb salad w/tons of yummy toppings, and amazing NY steak. We rarely have steak so it was so good! And a made a banana crumb cake for dessert. This is probably way more info than you wanted ;)

I got a nice long easy paced 15 mile run in on Saturday, then some very slow dog walking miles in Saturday and Sunday. I think 7 total....but with numerous pee stops ;)

    1. Um, no I enjoyed hearing about all that food! It sounds so yummy!

I am glad you got a long run in and some good walking! Who stopped to pee, you or the doggie!? ;)

    2. Both...but the dogs made many more pee stops than I did ;)

  7. I do NOT like Paul's beard. He won't shave it. Grrrr. Well, he'll shave it like once every 2.5 weeks.

I did go to work today. It was not fun!

  8. Awwww the final picture is the best! I love pictures like that! I take them of Adam and Cecil all the time but Adam won't let me post them online lol.

That llama is so cute! They really do have the sweetest little faces!

I am sorry that you were not feeling great this weekend! I feel bad that I emailed you and made you think about work related fitness things!

    1. I wish Adam would let you post pictures like that. :) I just don't tell Paul what pictures I post hehe. Although sometimes I will take one and he will see and and say, "Don't you DARE post that." hehe.

I was happy to get your emai! :)

  9. Sorry that you keep getting sick on the weekends - I wonder if it is just the exhaustion of the week catching up with you??
Lately my weekends have been full of cleaning and ironing - I guess that is a good thing though since it means we are staying busy.

    1. It's funny because when Friday rolled around, I wasn't even like CRAVING the weekend and relaxation so I didn't feel run down. But I may be so hype that I don't notice.

  10. ugh! Sorry you keep getting sick. :( You aways seem to pack so much into your weekends…albeit mellow stuff. Your friday night's look similar to mine, minus the husband. :) Yup, still in bed by 10-ish

    1. I love my mellow Friday nights. I just don't have the energy to do anything crazy after the work day!

  11. I also only ever get sick on the weekends. I tell myself this is because I don't allow my body to be sick during the week. I don't know if that's true though. Since my knee (or IT band) is still acting up, I didn't run any miles this weekend. Instead, I rode a bike next to my running friend while he did some speed work. Ten miles goes a lot faster on a bike while watching someone else run it!

    1. I am glad you got some time on the bike in! Do you do any rehab work right now for your knee? Google Kelly Starrett couch stretch- I do this daily for my knee/itband/hips (face it they're all connected and affect each other) and it DOES help!
