Weekend Wrap Up- HOME SWEET HOME!

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...Well, we were certainly excited that we didn't have to spend the weekend in the hospital! Friday was a long day waiting to get discharged, but finally around 6:30, we were on 83 North, heading for Camp Hill!

Let's back up a little. Paul had surgery at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. You can read a little bit about it here.

The short story is, things went well, and he was only in the NCCU until the day after his surgery.

24 hours after surgery and looking like a champ!
This picture was taken after he whooped my ass in Monopoly Deal.

It was exciting on Thursday evening when we moved up to the 12th floor- one step closer to home!

The view from the top of Hopkins on Thursday- Good evening, Baltimore!

Friday morning- head dressing is off!

Paul and I on Friday, a couple hours before he was discharged.

We got home around 8:30 on Friday night. (It took a little longer than normal because we had to go pick up 1,000 prescriptions at Rite Aid.) The kitties were a little sketchy at first, but they warmed up to us quickly. That's just a testament to how well they were taken care of when we were gone! (Thank you Aunt Chrissy and Bob!)

On Friday evening, we were sitting on the couch, relaxing, and watching Jeopardy. This was our conversation:

Paul: So I had brain surgery on Wednesday, right?
Me: Right.
Paul: And I'm at home watching Jeopardy on Friday night?
Me: Right.
Paul: That's fucked up!
Me: YUP!

We "slept in" until 9:00 on Saturday. It was nice to get actual sleep. When you're a neuro patient, you are woken up every 2 hours (or more) for a vast variety of tests, med, vitals, blood sugar... It's okay, they take care of you but it is hard to sleep. We felt very rejuvenated on Saturday morning!

And the cats were back to normal too. They missed their daddy!

Since Paul should not be alone yet, his dad came over and chilled with him while I went for a run. It felt good to exercise for the first time in 5 days. And since Paul was feeling good, I felt comfortable leaving him with his dad. But let's face it, I was never more than a 4 minute sprint from the house!

I refueled with a homemade egg sandwich! It is nice to not be eating hospital food anymore. Even though the food at Hopkins is good, I like making my own food so I know exactly what is in it.

1/2 a bagel, 1 egg, 1 egg white

Paul and I went for about a 5 minute walk that afternoon. I know that is short, but he is supposed to practice walking, keep it small, and work his way up. He said it felt great to be outside.

The rest of the day/evening was spent watching Survivor, Friends, and playing cards. We were WILD AND CRAZY and ordered Chinese! No seriously, I haven't had Chinese food in years. It was so good.... General Tso, white rice, chicken lo mein, and an egg roll. We shared everything. Oh, and we did get two small red velvet cake Blizzards for dessert!

Funny story: Paul really freaked out the delivery guy. I don't know if you can tell from the pictures, but Paul's incision is huuuuuuuuuuuuuge and there are 46 staples in his head (I counted!). Well, when Paul paid the delivery guy, the guy points to Paul's head and goes, "Oh, hoo, hoo, what happened to your head?" Of course Paul says, "Oh just a little surgery I had on Wednesday, but I'm fine- ready for some Chinese food." Oh we laughed and laughed when the guy left.

Most of Sunday morning and afternoon was spent laying on the couch watching TV. Paul's parents came over to visit him, so I got a little lifting session in and a short run.

The rest of the day was spent on the couch watching Jeopardy, Friends, and Survivor. I think we watched about 20 episodes of Friends this weekend! I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't believe Paul is home and feeling good!

Just a rando shot of Chrissy looking over Paul's medicine schedule... he likes to help.
What do you order when you get Chinese?
Have you ever had to spend time in the hospital?
What's your favorite episode of Friends?

    1. It's back to work this week... which I would choose a stressful week at work over than the hospital any day!

    1. I know, it is SO FREAKING crazy. I mean, I am not exaggerating. We were playing monopoly deal in the NCCU (same as the ICU but for neuro patients) 24 hours after surgery. So crazy.

  7. I know brain surgery isn't "no big deal" but I love your attitudes towards it. You're both just taking it in stride. It's refreshing and I bet it helps you guys focus on the silver linings!

It really nice of Paul's dad to come hang out so you could run! It's important for caretakers to have a chance to blow off some steam.

    1. You gotta have fun and have a good attitude or you will just be depressed/worried/anxious all day and that's no way to live your life.

I was very appreciative his dad gave me a short reprieve! His parents are great. I did run yesterday and left him alone, but I did about 8 loops around our block. Sort of boring but it was nice to only be about a 1 minute sprint from home in case he needed me!
