Weekend Wrap Up!

Good Monday morning to you, friends!
I hope you had a fabulous weekend!
I ended up having zero weekend plans, but as you can see, I still had fun...

Friday was one of those days at work where I didn't have a minute to just sit down and BREATHE. I know that sounds very dramatic, but that is how I felt. One of the reasons was because I took the second graders on a field trip to see a performance of The Nutcracker. Field trips are fun, and I love the ballet, but it is just so freaking stressful!

It didn't help that somehow I did not reserve enough seats for my group. My numbers were off by about 25 students! I don't know how it happened, but there were not enough seats reserved. I was so embarrassed. This was the tenth time I organized this trip, and I screwed it up. There was plenty of extra seating, as the performance wasn't sold out, but I am still mad at myself for making an error. At least my biggest "field trip fear" has finally happened! I have organized about 25 field trips during my teaching career and for every single one, I was worried I would screw it up. Well, I finally did and the world didn't end. Yippee.

After work, I was thankful that my understanding husband gave me almost an hour and a half of alone time to calm down and unwind. I was having trouble letting go of the tension that was building up all day. Time to just zone out was what I needed.

That night, we went out for sushi! After a couple months of being careful with money and saving as much as possible (we had a few unforeseen big bills/expenses come up), we finally felt like we could be frivolous with our money for a night and enjoy a good meal. We got sushi, which is something we both love!

As our delicious meal was brought out to us, I couldn't help but laugh that we had a refrigerator FULL of yummy food right now (Paul made one of those turkeys we bought last weekend!), yet we still felt the need to go out for dinner. Oh well!

On the way home, we stopped at Weis (blech) for groceries and we got some donuts for dessert. I didn't even wait until we were home to eat mine. I devoured it in the car. Does a craving ever just overcome you so badly that you need to eat that particular food right away? Right when we got into the car, I took out the chocolate covered cream filled donut, looked at Paul and said, "AMERICA!" and took a big bite.

Saturday was the rainiest, dreariest day ever. I went for an 8 mile run in the morning. It drizzled the first half and poured the second half. Luckily, the temperature was in the 40s. That made it easier to bare.

I don't have a Garmin shot for you since it died on my run, but I do have a shot of what I refueled with afterwards...

Open faced turkey-cran sandwich!

That afternoon, I did the last little bit of Christmas decorating I had to do. I hadn't put up any of my Hallmark ornaments yet, so I put on some Christmas music and got to work!

This is my favorite ornament! I've had it since I was a baby!

That evening, Paul had plans with some friends, so I took advantage of the situation and watched The Family Stone while I wrapped a couple Christmas presents. I like to spread out my Christmas present wrapping because I enjoy it so much! As for The Family Stone... I don't know why I enjoy watching that movie, but I do. Most of the characters in it are horrible, horrible people. But for some reason, the movie is "homey" to me. It's kind of like how I love Nancy Grace, even though I know she is ridiculous...

Jelly likes to watch, too!

For dinner, I had Paul's newest concoction- TURKEY CHILI! It had shredded white meat turkey in it, along with tomatoes, beans, some brown sugar, and BBQ sauce. It is divine. It kind of tastes like pulled pork. But it's chili. BAM.

After dinner, I got a little excited... I got on Amazon and bought more Christmas presents for loved ones we said we were "done" buying for. Oops. I will tell Paul tomorrow. I only spent about an extra $25. He can't get mad about that...!

Sunday morning, Jelly and I had a little photo session...

It looked so cold and windy outside, so I bundled up in my warmest stuff with the goal of running 8 miles. I didn't know if I would be able to stand the wind for that long, so I just just hoped for the best!

Well, as it turned out, it wasn't as cold as I thought it would be, and I was extremely warm on my run. I also felt very sluggish... I normally do when I'm all dressed up like a marshmallow!

This pace felt like an effort today.

I had not been shopping in quite a long time, and I was in desperate need of some stylish tunics and sweaters to wear with leggings and boots this winter. I have plenty of winter work clothes, but whenever it is time to get dressed semi nice and go somewhere, I feel like I have zero options because all my cute stuff is either short sleeved or sleeveless. A trip to Kohl's and Ross would remedy the situation! You will notice a color theme going on....

Pic #1- creamish/tannish cardigan ($10.99)
Pic #2- black and white chunky sweater ($14.99 + 20% off)

Pic #3- black and white long sleeve splashy tunic ($9.99 + 20% off)
Pic #4- grey long sleeve tunic ($12.99 + 20% off)

Pic #5- charcoal grey and light grey reindeer leggings (5.99)

Six cute pieces for just about $45! As you can tell, I am not one to spend a lot of money on clothes because there is simply no need to. Is that $15 sweater going to last me 10 years? Probably not. But is it going to be in style/am I going to want to wear it in 10 years? Oh, and I have been wanting to try the reindeer legging fad for awhile now and finally found a pair I think I can get away with without looking like I'm trying to dress like a teenager!

I did a ton of planning on Sunday afternoon... Planning in the way of thinking about some 2015 races and maybe one last 2014 race! I am in desperate need of some running and lifting goals. Lately, I have been doing "whatever". I love doing "whatever".... a little too much! It is time to start thinking about what is next! Don't worry, once I have some tentative plans, I will share them with you! Hopefully in the next week!

And I finished off the night by wrapping a few more gifts. Jelly helped, of course!

Do you own any patterned leggings?

Do you have a love/hate relationship with a movie like I have with The Family Stone?

Did you ever royally screw something up at work the way I screwed up that field trip?

Any last minute 2014 races!?

  1. I am pretty drab in the leggings department....I stick with black and grey! I want patterned but like you said I don't want to be seen as trying to dress too young! I am a mother of 3 but I can still be hip right?? lol!
My last minute races are all in the next couple weeks! I ran a 10k Saturday, possibly doing a 5k this next weekend then to wrap up the year I am running a 50k relay on the 20th.

I have had a blast trying to create new goals for 2015 and what races would be fun to do!!

    1. Wow you have a lot of races left this year! That is awesome. :)

And heck yes you can be hip! Ross had A LOT of different patterned leggings to choose from and they were all about $5.99. My thinking, to dress for my age, is to get sort of a muted color so that I still have the fun pattern, but it's not like they are pink or something! You should get a patterned pair that are black/grey so that it still fits into what you already wear!

  2. I have a similar weekend as I also watched the Family Stone and wrapped Christmas gifts. It's been awhile since I saw that movie so didn't remember how it ended. Gosh, there were some teary eyes at the end. -L

  3. Jelly is such a good little elf! Cecil needs to take lessons!! He jumps all over the wrapping paper while I'm rolling it out causing it to rip and tear, and then once everything is wrapped he bites the edges so that the gifts end up exposed at the corners. When it comes to bags... he just jumps right inside with the gifts and makes himself at home! He is the most unhelpful elf EVER!

I love long sleeved tops and sweaters. They look so comfy! I only own one because of our weather... so I have one one sweater to wear on the one cold day per year that we get! :)

    1. Oh Cecil, it sounds like you need an intervention!!!

I pretty much live in sweaters, tunics, and leggings during the winter!

  4. I love those reindeer leggings! Everything you bought looks so comfy and warm. I did the same thing as you and dressed too warmly for a run. It was miserable!

  5. Love the pic of Jelly watching the movie...
FYI, did you know that Kohl's takes EXPIRED Kohl's cash? I stopped in last week to get a sweater, and while waiting in line was going through my purse, found some Kcash expired A YEAR AGO, and put it in my coat pocket to throw out when leaving the store. When I was paying the clerk said, "didn't you have some K cash to use?" I said, yes but that it expired over a year ago. She said I could use it--FREE SWEATER!!!!

    1. I DID NOT KNOW THAT! Kohl's is so freaking awesome. Funny story: One of my students told me that she saw me at Kohl's yesterday. I said, "Why didn't you say hi!?" She goes, "You looked busy." HAHA!

  6. So many cute things for so cheap! Sushi is my favourite, but it's so expensive because I order so much :(

    1. I definitely wasn't full after that! Sometimes I don't know how big the rolls are going to be and 2 is enough. Well, not that night. Hence, the donut. :)

  7. The Family Stone has Diane Keaton and Sarah Jessica Parker in it! You will either love it, hate it, or love to hate it- like me haha.

  8. Ahh I'm sorry you had a crappy work day. If it makes you feel better, I had a day like that too. I had to send out an email with some documents to our board members for their committee meeting. First I got the date wrong in the email and had to send a correction, then my boss informed me I had made some errors in the materials and needed to resend them. I felt like I had "moron" stamped on my forehead. This was in addition to an already overloaded day and I just wanted to crawl under my desk and hide for the rest of the week.

I stick to solid colored leggings, because they match all my clothes. I should get some patterned ones, though - time to branch out!
