I AM SO PISSED OFF AT OUR LAWMAKERS!

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I am not just pissed off at our federal lawmakers, but our state lawmakers as well. Pennsylvania and the ENTIRE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT needs to legalize medical cannabis NOW.

I'd like to write a very thought out and serious post, but I am simply too mad to do anything other than rant right now. So a rant is what you're going to get. If you're not in the mood for an impassioned post with a lot of CAPS LOCK and an occasional sprinkling of the F-BOMB, then you need to come back tomorrow.

You've been warned.

RANT #1

Did you see the article last week? Minnesota Prosecutors Won't Relent on Child Endangerment Charges Against Mom for Medical Pot. A mother, whose son suffers from debilitating seizures, traveled to Colorado to get a form of THC oil that has specifically been shown to reduce the types of seizures her son experiences. She brought this oil back to Minnesota (where she lives) and administered it to the child. His seizures stopped. However, one of the mom's "friends" told the police and the mother is now being charged with child endangerment!!!

IF THEY LIVED IN COLORADO, IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A CRIME. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MEDICINE.

This is sickening. The mother gave her son, medicinally regulated THC oil. It is not "back alley pot". It is a travesty that families all over our country don't have the same healthcare options. NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD TO PICK UP AND MOVE TO COLORADO. People have jobs and health insurance that they just cannot give up!

RANT #2

This one is for Pennsylvania voters!

First of all, one way to make research easier is to MAKE IT LEGAL FOR SCIENTISTS TO ACTUALLY OBTAIN AND USE FOR RESEARCH. That is currently very hard to do.

Secondly, I guarantee you marijuana will be MUCH MORE HIGHLY regulated than other prescription medication that people all of the country abuse. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD how can someone so FLIPPING ignorant be the governor of our state??????

I guess Corbett is too busy being an ignorant asshole that he has not learned about how violent crime has gone down in Colorado since the legalization of marijuana (recreational!!!) and prescription drug overdose deaths have gone down in states that have legalized medical marijuana.

PA PEEPS: VOTE FOR TOM WOLF FOR GOVERNOR ON NOVEMBER 4TH!!!

Damn Straight!!!!!

RANT #3

Last week I was so excited because it looked like the legalization of medical cannabis was on the horizon in PA! The bill was passed by the Senate and was to go before the House of Representatives... who only have about 5 voting days left before they end for the year.

However, the bill has hit a brick wall. House majority leader's (Mike Turzai, R- Allegheny County) press secretary stated, "It would be unrealistic "and irresponsible (for House members new to the issue) to just rubber-stamp a bill that creates an entire new bureaucracy" in less than two weeks."

UMM, HOW ABOUT DOING YOUR JOB AND READING THE FUCKING BILL SO YOU ARE NOT SO NEW TO THE ISSUE??????????????????????????

Oh wait, you probably don't have a family member who suffers from seizures and could restore their quality of life via this life saving medication. (Yes, it is life saving. My husband has been hospitalized and put on life support twice in the last year due to being status epilepticus... AKA a seizure that WON'T STOP.)

I don't know why I even research this shit because all it does is make me so fucking mad.

Rant #4

Last rant, guys. Over a week ago, I contacted my state representative Sheryl Delozier and asked her how she was planning to vote on SB 1182. I wrote her a very detailed and thoughtful email. Here it is:

Rep. Delozier,

My name is Megan Michael and I live in Camp Hill. I would like you know how you plan to vote on the medical marijuana bill.

My husband has a brain tumor which gives him seizures. He has had brain surgery and is on 3 different meds in which he has to take 3 times a day. He is still unable to do any physical activity without experiencing seizures. When I say physical activity, I even mean something as light as loading the dishwasher or vacuuming.  This severely affects his quality of life as he is only 31 years old.

We visited Colorado this summer where my husband was allowed to vaporize THC oil legally. He also used edibles that had THC in them. During our 6 day trip, my husband had ZERO symptoms. We took 2 hour long hikes in the beautiful foothills, something he would not be able to do if it weren't for the THC oil.

Marijuana works for him and his symptoms. I cannot express to you enough how allowing medical marijuana in PA would change our lives. He'd be able to do the things he loves again and go back to work.

We don't want to move, but if the medical marijuana bill does not pass in PA soon, we will have to.

I would like to know how you are going to vote on this bill. If you are unsure of how you are going to vote, or if you would like to talk more about how medical marijuana would change not only my husband's life, but the lives of any others, please contact me.

Megan Michael

Guess what? She has not replied.

Something else to keep in mind on November 4th.

  1. Meg, I am so sorry! As you know, I live in Colorado and our state has not gone to hell in a hand basket because we legalized a natural drug with numerous medicinal benefits. I wish all states could just get their act together. You & Paul are in my thoughts....

    2. I pray you either find a job here or things change in PA.

  2. I'm sorry Meg, but this is not a rant. What I read was the plea of a wife who is desperate for her husband to have appropriate medical treatment. (What if chemo therapy was only legal in Colorado!!!) Is there a local activist group that can speak to the PA lawmakers? Can you start one??

I know how I'm voting on November 4th.

    1. I know of one group of mothers who are basically the REASON this bill has even been written. They have children with debilitating seizures... like 60 a day.

  3. The story of the mother from Minnesota is literally infuriating! I cannot believe her friend would turn her in! I cannot believe how hard the legal system is failing this mother just trying to do the best for her child.

The gateway drug argument is just so ignorant. I am sure some people use it as a gateway drug, but those people are likely predisposed to wanting to do harder drugs due to other circumstances anyway. If the real concern is drug problems in the area, It would be nice to see the government put more time and effort into rehabilitating people whose lives have been destroyed by harder drugs instead of viewing them as lost causes. From my understanding, nonprofits are helpful although generally underfunded/understaffed and paid rehab centers are usually way too expensive for the non-millionare to afford (especially if the person doesn't have insurance).

Here in my city we don't have a big drug problem (I don't think ), but like most big cities we have a homeless issue and instead of trying to HELP the homeless our city keeps passing stricter laws AGAINST the homeless to push them out of the city so that I guess we don't have to look at them. It's seriously ridiculous. We recently passed a law that says the homeless can't carry their possessions around with them. So, where exactly are they supposed to put their possessions?

Sorry to get off track, but it's just outstanding how the government focuses on all the wrong things sometimes.

Getting back on track, now that pot has been legalized in a couple of states and we can clearly SEE those states have not gone to hell... what more is there to consider besides the health BENEFITS for those who need medical marijuana.

Plus, alcohol is legal and it has exactly how many medical benefits? And alcohol NEVER leads to crime, right?

    1. VERY good examples of how the government is focusing on the wrong things to solve problems. And you are sooooo right with what you said about it not being a gateway drug. MOST people reading my blog have probably tried weed at some point in their lives. Maybe they smoke it from time to time. Maybe they did smoke but don't smoke anymore. Are the heroin or cocaine addicts? No.

Alcohol... hahaha yeah alcohol is SO HELPFUL to our society, right!?

  4. Megan, I'm so sorry that you can't even get a response to your email - seems like no matter what her plan is she could show enough respect to you (a voter!!!) to reply.
I wish that there was someway to make the lawmakers realize that medicine is not "one size fits all" and sometimes people have to go outside the box!
Maybe you should start sending out resumes for a teaching job in Colorado:)

  5. But Megan, why should we legalize this natural herbal supplement when we can push the lab-created, extremely expensive pills that all have multiple side effects which we then have to push more extremely expensive, lab-created pills to get rid of those side effects?!?!

But honestly, living in California (especially in my little corner of California) marijuana is part of our culture. The only reason it wasn't legalized last time was because the growers rallied together and voted no so that it wouldn't be taxed. Pot isn't anything that phases me and I have seen the medical effects that it has on people. It truly does help. And what grinds my gears is when people say it's a gateway drug. Uh. No. It's not. Read some studies. They all show the ALCOHOL is the actual gateway drug. Stoners just sit on the couch and talk about life. Believe me, I hang out with some. No one has the energy to do any other drug. ;-)

    1. lol very good point. :) As you can prob tell, I am SUPER liberal and don't have any problems with weed being used recreationally. To me, alcohol is way more dangerous! Thanks for that little insight as to why it wasn't legalized recrationally in CA. I feel like the growers would want it to be- even if it WAS taxed.

  6. I totally agree with all of this. I'm hoping it passes here in November, since it's actually on our ballot this year. I'm a total supporter of medical marijuana and I know in a few short years it'll be legal nationwide. It just has to be...there's too much support and evidence in its favor for politicians to keep it illegal. The history of why it became illegal and listed as a tier 1 drug is so scandalous and shady. I just have to believe this will be our next major overhaul after gay rights.

    1. It definitely will be legal in a few years but I am just so frustrated because I want Paul to have some semblance of his former life NOW. :( A few years just isn't soon enough for me.

  7. Hi there Megan! I just found your blog and reading this as one of the first articles...well, I am happy to see somebody else bring this point up on a social environment such as a healthy living blog! As a healthy living blogger myself, and also from a state that has yet to legalize medical cannabis (Arkansas), I can relate. And yes, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I even pinned that quote you have above from the Dr. Brilliant quote and brilliant point!

    1. Thank you for stopping by and commenting! I know it is just a matter of time before it is legal everywhere (much like marriage equality has hit the tipping point I think), but some people just don't have time. :( Thanks for helping to spread the message!
