Weekend Wrap Up!

Well, this weekend was ONE BILLION times better than last weekend!
It included lots of pj time, lots of sushi, a horrible run, and SOMEONE in our household getting their very first smart phone. Read more to find out all about the excitement...

All I could think about at work on Friday was going home and watching the Big Brother DOUBLE EVICTION! Can you imagine something better? What if I told you we were eating pizza with bacon on it while we were watching the DOUBLE EVICTION? Guys, pizza and Big Brother is the reason Fridays exist.

PJ selfie. This is how I roll on a Friday night.

We also tried a new game called Quiddler. I will be honest, since it is a word game, I thought I would kick Paul's ass. But I only won by fifty points. We play cards (Rummy and Casino) every night and while I used to beat home most of the time, now he beats me ALL THE TIME. Once in awhile I will win.

Saturday will go down in history as the day Paul bought his very first smartphone! We are getting him a medical watch that has a lot of bells and whistles and will be a huge piece of mind for us while I am at work and he is at home. The thing is, the watch needs a smartphone for it to sync up to for it to work. Since I could transfer my free upgrade to Paul, it ended up being only $50 for the phone and our bill (with a data plan) only went up $8. The thing is, if I had a smartphone, I could use his data too and it wouldn't cost extra. There is plenty of data to go around... so I guess the question is, should I get a smartphone too? It is possible to get one for under $100? On the other hand, I love my flip phone. I would miss it so much... I had it for like the past seven years. (Not the exact phone, obviously, as they are designed to break after two years. When mine breaks I just buy I new one from Amazon. I don't even think they make my phone anymore...)

After the exciting trip the Verizon kiosk, I went for a "long" run that was supposed to be ten miles. It ended up being only eight miles. The entire run was not enjoyable. I don't know what went wrong other than it was really hot at humid out. Normally, as long as I have water (check) and go slow (check), I can still enjoy a humid run. Well, not this time.

I thought my run was going to be awesome was because I hadn't run in an entire week. I thought my legs would be so fresh and I would be flying. Instead, my legs felt like lead and I averaged an 8:48 pace... which was an extreme effort. That is not normal.

I even had to play mental games with myself to keep going. By mile two, I knew I wasn't going to make it the entire ten. At mile four I convinced myself I could do two more even though I had a minor headache and an upset stomach. At mile six my stomachache went away and my headache wasn't any worse, so I did two more for a total of eight miles. I will be honest, part of the reason I forced myself to keep going was because I had pizza the night before and we were going out for sushi later that night.

The best part about Saturday's run was the refueling...

You bet I ate every last piece!

Pre sushi pic. Proof that I SOMETIMES get out of my jammies!

While we waited for our food to arrive, we messed around with Paul's new smartphone. Yes, we are now that couple that takes selfies while we are out to dinner.

Not bad for a couple thirty-somethings!

I redeemed myself! Sunday morning I went for a 6 mile run, and this is how it turned out...

I am relieved. I thought I lost my mojo. It was a lot cooler on Sunday, so I am sure that helped. After my run, I dropped Paul off at his friend's house so they could spend the day watching football. I headed to Planet Fitness. It had been like a week and a half since I lifted back and I could definitely tell. I was very weak.

I snapped this picture of my kitties on Sunday afternoon. I don't know why they were
practically guarding my lap top...

And then this is Chrissy putting on his "I'm so hungry" show.
He has all sorts of antics he does to try to manipulate us into feeding him early.
This pose, right in the middle of the kitchen, was clearly meant to tug at our heartstrings.

I spent the rest of Sunday making food for the week (chicken, quinoa, sweet potatoes, and butternut squash in case you wanted to know!) and doing some chores. I managed to get some back porch time with a margarita too. I miss Paul when he watches football all day on Sunday, but I know it makes him so happy, so it makes me happy too.
Do you think I should just get a smartphone and do you know where to find good deals?
Have you ever played Quiddler?
Please tell me you had a good run this weekend to make up for my bad run!

  2. I was in recovery mode from my rock n roll VA Beach race last Sunday so I did not get any runs in this past week :(

You should definitely get a smart phone! It makes blogging So much easier! ( but then again, when I didn't have one, I didn't know what I was missing. I was always "anti-technology"..haha.

  3. Look how cute you are--in PJ's and in dress up clothes!! I am going to be getting my first smart phone next month, too. I am not sure how I feel about it but considering I am always on Rick's phone searching the web, I think it will be a good thing! We spent most of our Sunday watching football (I also prep meals for the week since our kitchen is right off the main room, I can still partake in the watching). Go Broncos :)

    2. Since I have lived here since I was 5 and my mom was a die hard Bronco fan, it just was meant to be. Wish I could convince Rick to be a fan....he's stuck on those darn 49ers.

  4. I bet you could get a cheap smartphone off of Amazon or eBay. I used to always sell my smartphone on eBay when I wanted to upgrade to the newer model... but now I just sell it through Gazelle. The Gazelle ebay store is probably a good place to start your search: http://stores.ebay.com/Gazelle-Store

You look super pretty in the pre-sushi pic!

  5. Cute dinner outfit!
Isn't it funny how one bad run makes us feel like we are no longer valid runners??
I would look for a smart phone online...
    Good luck!

  7. Since the new iPhone (6) is fixing to come out you should be able to get an older model for under $50. Sometimes they are way cheaper than that. We always go to Best Buy (doesn't matter what plan you have - they can help you) and check the deals!
Glad that Sunday's run was better!!!

    1. Oh I would love it too. That's why I'm holding out as long as possible because once I have one, I will be addicted to it AND I'll never go back to my little samsung Alias 2!

  10. I was never ever going to get a smart phone I once said.....now I'm hooked on mine. :S I use it a lot for photos since I don't own a camera anymore and I even watch Netflix on it a lot!

It's awesome you had a redemption run! I have at least one crappy run a week and I question everything I am doing. Then when I have a great run I realize that it just happens sometimes, lol.
