My life... in folk songs.

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I teach music, so I do my fair share of singing folk songs. I thought I would give you a little update on my life... to the tune of some well known melodies. Hopefully it gives you a chuckle!

PS. If these tunes get stuck in your head please don't complain to me. Having annoying kids songs stuck in my head is the story of my life! Want to ruin someone's day? Play this song for them. They will hate you.

Sing to the tune of Camptown Races

Summer vay-cay's almost here!
Doo dah! Doo dah!
Time to shout and give a cheer!
Oh, doo dah day!
No more lesson plans!
Lots more Cabernet!
No more 5 am wake up calls!
Oh, doo dah day!

Sing to the tune of Erie Canal

I got a cat, his name is Kiss.
In ev'ry corner of my house he will piss.
But he gives me joy and gives me bliss,
So I'm able to overlook this.

Christmas, aka Chrissy, aka Kissy, aka "Kiss"

Sing to the tune of I've Been Workin' on the Railroad

I've been eatin' too much peanut butter,
all the live long day.
I've been eatin' too much peanut butter,
just to pass the time away

Ever since I gave up ice cream,
peanut butter's been my friend.
Now I need some self control,
this cycle has to end!

Sing to the tune of Oh My Darlin' Clementine

Oh my knee hurts, Oh my knee hurts
What the hell is wrong with me?
I got surgery to fix this.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH MY FUCKING KNEE!!!???

Don't worry, this pic is from Jan. I did not re-injure myself.

Sing to the tune of If I Had A Hammer
(Inspired by this post by Tonya at @ Budget on the Beach)

If I had a an iPhone,
I'd be on it in the morning,
I'd be on it in the evening,
All over this land!

And so I won't buy one
Until Verizon makes me.
And then I'll be on my iPhone
All over this land!

My phone. It opens two ways. Does yours? BAM!
Write me a song about you!
Do you have a favorite song from music class?
Did you have the guts to click on the link with the annoying song?

  1. I had never heard of two of those songs! Erie Canal might not be something they teach further south maybe. I'm sorry your knee is bothering you still!

    1. Oh my gosh I can totally see how numbers would run your life if you taught math. :)

  4. LOVE this, Meg! The pb one is hilarious. I will now think about it every night as I'm sneaking a (big) spoonful from the fridge.

Since I work for an ad agency, I deconstruct every single ad I see. On my grave will be the words: Here lies Kristina who could frequently be heard saying, "that ad was bad, I could help them do better." She also really liked cats.

    1. I can only imagine how hard it would be to NOT think about how to make ads better when we see them EVERYWHERE! I know you love your pb. Do you have a favorite brand? I love Jiff but we usually get the generic brand at Aldi. They DO taste different.

    2. I usually get the Smart Balance creamy pb. I've been eyeing up the Justin's Nut Butter products, but 1.) the name kind of grosses me out 2.) it's like $12 for a small jar (wtf). Justin must make magical nut butter.

  6. I write songs for Archie all the time. I just insert his name into songs and nursery rhymes. My favorite is "Archie Parchy" in place of "Georgie Porgie" and "Archie, Archie...give me your answers truuuue" in place of Daisy...you know, the song about marriage. lol

    1. That is so flippin' cute! I know the Daisy song and can totally see you singing it to Archie. Paul and I have a song we made up that we sing when we're on the way home from something, it's like, "Ah Chrissy boy, we're comin' home to you..." and then it continues it's pretty silly. Oh and of course I sing "All da single kitties, all da single kitties" hehehe
