Things I'm Looking Forward To This Winter

Friday!? Already!?
I sure could get used to this 3 day work with...

With Christmas and New Year's over, we are now entering the long, cold, doldrums of winter. In Pennsylvania, winter lasts well into March. Even early April can be cold!

There's usually not much going on in my life in the winter, but this year, I want to purposefully have some things to look forward to so it breaks up the long months.

Here are some activities I have planned so far:

1. In March, my SIL and I are going to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at Dutch Apple Dinner Theater in March. I can't wait! I love Joseph and the shows at Dutch Apple are done so well!

2. Also in March, I'm taking my nieces and nephew to see The Frog Prince at Popcorn Hat Players. Then we will go to lunch at Strawberry Square. It's their Christmas present. I can't wait to give them a fun day!

3. I'm throwing a soup exchange party in February. Local peeps, let me know if you want to come!

4. I look forward to running a lot of trail this winter. I'm running the Hyner 25k in April so hopefully I can get in some training runs with lots of climbs! Trail buddies, you in!?

So local peeps, what am I missing? Anything you think I should add to my list to keep the winter from being too boring?

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am linking up with Fairytales and Fitness.
Do you have any fun winter plans?

  1. I have been extremely happy with our weather here so far, but than I remember that Winter here is really just getting started..lol.
I'm actually looking forward to snow days, Winter Fest on Hallmark Channel ( lame I know), and reading more books. Closer to Spring my mom and I always do a little get away.
Tell me more about the soup swap!

    1. Oh yeah, winter weather has not even started yet! I do love snow days too. :) The soup swap is like a cookie exchange but with soup! Wouldn't it be nice to have a quart of several soups to freeze and heat up throughout the winter?

  2. You are running Hyner!!! So exciting. I ran it last year and loved it. Did you ever do it before? I am doing a 3-hour timed run in RB Winter State Park near Mifflinburg this weekend. It's a run that I do every year and really enjoy. Also doing Phunt in 2 weeks in Elkton, MD, my favorite trail race of the year. I think the 2020 version of the race is already sold out!

    1. Yes, finally got into Hyner 25k. My bro (the ironman) is doing to 50k. Have fun at RB this weekend! Hopefully it's not too wet. I did Phunt waaaaaaay back in the day when it was a Fat Ass run. I'm registered for 2020. Can't wait to do it again because I remember the course was beautiful. Phunt was my very first ultra.

  3. I love Joseph, enjoy the show. I haven't seen that in a couple three years and should really fix that. I think the last ALW show I saw was Sunset Boulevard

    1. I never saw Sunset! I wonder if it will ever come back to Broadway? Such a classic.

  4. A soup exchange party? Yum! We had a training run with Dave's MIT and and the "afterparty" was called Soup-a-palooza. I got a really excellent crock pot potato soup recipe from that event.

  6. I also like having things to look forward to during this time of year :). It seems like after the holidays can be a depressing time (so can the holidays). Thankfully, I have a few things on my calendar... going to brunch with friends on Saturday, volunteering at Charleston Marathon, a dinner/dessert fundraiser for a local HIV/AIDS group, etc. Also a soup exchange party sounds like so much fun- maybe I'll talk to my friends about doing something similar for a super bowl party (SOUPer bowl?)

    1. Yes do a soup exchange! Let me know how it goes. Maybe I could host a virtual soup exchange on my blog where people link up with a post of their recipe and how to make the soup.

  9. We are really enjoying some very warm for January weather conditions. I'm telling myself that if it does get cold, it will be easier to handle. Am I right?

  10. I'm hoping to head to Savannah to break up the winter. :) And I'm hoping that for once snow has been staying away! Today is dreary & raining, but hey, it could've been snow, and you don't have to shovel snow. Although the dogs aren't too pleased.

  11. We have tons of "bank holidays" here in the Netherlands up until June. So it helps break up the winter, but then we have nothing... winter can be long and grey here too, that's probably why I train for something in the spring so I don't go nuts! although training in miserable weather kind of sucks. Ah well, we do what we can! Good that you have some things planned! It sure helps to have something to look forward to!

    1. Ooh that is SMART for them to plan some bank holidays. We here in the states could learn from you guys!!! (We could learn lots of things other than that!!!)
