Thinking Out Loud!

Thinking-Out-Loud

Thank you to Amanda @ Running With Spoons for this Thinking Out Loud link up! I have a lot of randomness to share with you today, so let's get started!

1. Yesterday, I passed my personal training exam! We celebrated two ways...

#1 Buying blinds and curtains!
Doesn't everyone do this to celebrate milestones?

#2 Dairy Queen Blizzard!
I got 2 of the kiddie sizes so I could try two flavors- S'mores and Reeses.
Look, when it comes to ice cream, I don't mess around.

Thank you all for your kind words, advice, and motivation in the comments yesterday. You are all such positive people and I can't think you enough for your support and sharing in my happiness!

2. My favorite moment of summer so far: Driving home from Dairy Queen at 10pm, windows rolled down, blasting Mika on the stereo and singing/screaming the harmonies with Paul.

3. This is the book I'm reading right now. I think it is the only book about the O.J. Simpson case I have not read yet. It is fascinating. I am learning things I did not know about the case- and I thought I knew everything!

4. Yesterday, I finally got confirmation from United Airlines that we would get a credit for the two airline tickets we had to cancel. It's not a refund, but I'll take it. It was a really tough "process". First of all, you have to talk to 50 robots before you talk to an actual person. Then when you get a person, their accent is so thick that you can't understand them. (They speak perfect English, I am not knocking that, I just cannot understand what they are saying over the phone.) You also get the run around... sent from one department to another department... I sent countless faxes of documentation. It was just a very, very, stressful process, but it was worth it to not completely lose 2/3 of our vacation money.

5. Hey, it's Throwback Thursday! Here is one of my favorite throwback photos of Paul and Christmas circa 2006! They both look like babies!

6. Last year, a mulberry tree suddenly popped up behind our shed. It is even bigger this year, in fact, it probably needs some heavy trimming. But soon the mulberries will be ripe and ready to pick!

7. Last but not least, I won a free entry to the Hit and Run 5k. However, since I do not live near any of the cities it visits, I cannot run it. Check out the website and if you live near one of the cities and want to run it, comment below. I can give you the free registration code!

From the Hit and Run 5k website:

"Hit and Run 5K is the hilariously humongous obstacle course™; it will hit you, bounce you, splash you, flip you, flop you, and catapult you where no 5K participant has ever been hurled."

Tell me something random- Think Out Loud!
Does talking to robots on the phone make you want to smash something?
What do you like in your Blizzard?

  1. Oh, how much do you love summer? I generally get Snickers in my blizzard. No chocolate sauce, though. I am boring.

Super glad you got credit and sorry you had to go through that. You would think they would be a little more understanding and compassionate about the entire situation. I mean, it's not like cancelling this trip is something fun for you. Sigh...

    1. Mmm snickers! That's a good one. Did you ever freeze a Snickers?

    2. I love all things frozen: Twinkies, candy bars, thin mint GS cookies!!

    3. Thin mints!!! Wow, I bet they are so great frozen.

  2. Brilliant idea, buying the kiddie sizes! I have been dying to try cake batter and s'mores.
Congrats on passing your exam! Luckily, I haven't had to deal with robots too much - I've seen my dad converse with them before and that's confirmation enough for me; robots suck. Unless they're actually helpful...very rare. ;)

    1. Ooh I love cake batter ANYTHING! I don't think they had it at the DQ we went to. I think there needs to be a law that companies can't have robots, or that no matter what, if you press 0, you get a human being. I kept pressing zero but kept getting robots.

  3. Yay for being able to get your refund. I hate that we have to talk to so many computers. I usually end up messing it up by not pushing the appropriate number fast enough or they can't understand what I am saying so I end up on hold for an operator. It would save a whole lot of time if they would just give me an operator to begin with. I think it's just there way of keeping us entertained while we are on hold!

    1. lol I know, like the robot wants yes or no, and I say "yes" and the robot says, "sorry, I don't understand you" and it's like come ON all you needed to recognize was whether I said yes or no and you can't do that? BAD ROBOT.

  4. Celebrating with DR sounds fantastic. So glad you got a credit for your plane tickets. Wow nice surprise with the mulberry bush popping up. I hate talking to the robots, I'm the guy who hits 0 a million times to speak to an actual person lol.

    1. I think there should be a law that as soon as you hit 0, you get a human. Even if you need to be on hold and wait for one, it's better than making small talk with a robot.

  5. ^^ I'm with Schlub (I feel kind of mean writing that lol) as soon as I hear a robot I start furiously pounding 0 to talk to a person. I think the worst robot ever is Paypal Business. You can hit 0 all you want and scream "TALK TO AN OPERATOR" and all the robot says is, "sorry I didn't understand that."

SOOOOOOOO glad you got a credit from the airline! Please use it to come to Florida! Ali, you and I can do a fun blogger/running meetup :) The guys can make signs and cheer for us, haha

    1. lol I can picture you raging to a paypal robot right now. Paul goes downstairs when I get ragey at robots, he can't handle the stress! I will do my best do get to Florida! Now Paul is talking about Seattle... where the heck did he get that idea for a vaycay?? Oh well he is the one getting surgery so he gets to pick where we go if we in fact do get to go somewhere! It is only fair, right!??? Oh how I would love a blogger meetup with you and Ali, though!!

  6. Congratulations on passing your exam! That's super exciting times :D I still have one exam standing between me and my health coaching certification, which I'll have to knock out in the next couple of days. Eep! Excited :) And ugh... don't even get me started on dealing with companies over the phone or through e-mail. It takes 10 times as long and makes things 100 times more complicated.

  7. Congratulations on passing your exam - what an awesome accomplishment!
I have never tried a mulberry heck, I have never heard of them! What do they taste like?
I hate talking to robots over the phone! I do everything I can to get a real person. I also hate flying but I do it a decent amount. I tend to fly Southwest because they are great with giving you credit and letting you change flights without extra charges if needed!

    1. Thank you for the Southwest tip- they sound very customer friendly. I have flown twice in my 31 years and both times were using discounted passes from my mother-in-law who works for US Airways. So we never actually booked our own flights. This was a huge learning experience for me. Mulberries are NOT that great. They have the consistency of blackberries and raspberries but they are nowhere near as sweet. I just eat them because they are free from my tree and they work well in greek yogurt. If they weren't free, I wouldn't eat them. :)

  8. I have been craving DQ like crazy because I've been cutting out sugar from my diet. I always get the Butterfinger blizzard.

I'm glad they gave you credit for the tickets. Talk about a frustrating process! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has trouble understanding accents over the phone!

  9. Congrats on passing your exam! I HATE talking to robots on the phone. I usually make my husband do it:) I haven't had a blizzard in way too long!

  10. Such a good idea to try the kid flavors! I love the smaller portions because then I can sample more :)

  11. My blood pressure goes up just reading about your experience on the phone. Not my strong suit, to say the least. Robot or 5 different people in the run around it doesn't matter, I hate it all!
