Tying your shoes IS a big deal! The German kita sounds awesome. Play is so important and it's the best way for kids to learn at that age. 8-4 is a long time! I'm glad it works well for your daughter. The school I work at is 8:40-3:20, but with only 2 recesses. They (admin) tried to take away the 2nd recess and we had to FIGHT to get it. I remember having 3 recesses in elem. school!Meg Go Runhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11707890742715926971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6003023702428993428.post-77040171119195719222016-12-02T07:44:43.411-05:002016-12-02T07:44:43.411-05:00Wow! We had a book of shapes to earn for different skills. I earned a triangle when I learned to tie my shoes. It was a big day.

I had half day too (morning), but my nephews had full day. My kids go to a German kita (daycare, then kindergarten) for six hours a day. It was a lot for my son at first, but now he loves it. It is a very relaxed environment, full of play. My daughter just started elementary school in year one, and is having no problems with an 8-4pm schedule.

So I think a lot of time isn't necessarily bad, but it depends on what the kids do. I wanted to appear grown up. She told me later she was dying inside but knew she had to let me go. At the end of the day, she was there waiting for me with a helium balloon and I ran to her and gave her biggest hug and kiss ever! I missed her so much and at that point, I didn't care what anyone thought. But after that, I never didn't show my mom affection in public. I would hug and kiss her all the time...the first day of kindergarten clearly changed me--LOL! And I am glad it did because I had to cram a lifetime of those into 33 years and would love to give her just one more hug and kiss!Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08177308883627646456noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6003023702428993428.post-61192490424699081972016-12-01T10:21:35.071-05:002016-12-01T10:21:35.071-05:00Such fun (and funny!) memories! There was a hole drawn on it and one of my classmates told me I could draw a squirrel on it - which of course I did. Uh no. That was not for students to draw on :( Oops. Also, we had a pizza party in our class and I didn't eat pizza so I brought in a PB&J sandwich!
